I like both Megadeth and Metallica the same, my mom/dad listened to both Megadeth and Metallica when I was a baby.... full blast too. Unlike some kids, I didn't listen to very much Mozart/Beethtoven.... Heavy Metal bands like Priest, Megadeth, and Metallica was my Mozart!

and Megaduck.......  lmfao makes Megadeth sound cute.

Well said, max.  However, I do give Slipknot some credit.  If you want to see a cool stage show and mindless headbanging music, Slipknot delivers big time.  All they lack is pyro or severed heads.

Cliff Burton 1986

Although it was Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield that forged Metallica's sound from the start,it was Cliff Burton who kept them in a "metal state of mind" with denim & leather aesthetics and an F-off attitude. This era with Cliff is untouchable for Megadeth,I don't think Megadeth comes close to this time period of Metallica.

Megadeth all the way
By the way...can anybody tell me why they call Megadeth Megaduck?

The first 3 Metallica albums are killer, And Justice For All was...eh....ok but the rest of the bands career sucks.
I hate all Megadeth.

There are a couple of main differences between these two bands which earned my endearment to Megadeth over the years more so than Metallica.

Riffs
Metallica has some memorable ones, and some classic albums over the years, but Mustaine was a true artist with respect to the thoughtful riffs he created. They contnued long after Megadeth became "irrelevant" in a lot of ways (post Rust In Peace), and I was just listening to Cryptic Writings the other day, and some of the riffs were still thoughtful and catchy, and displayed the fact that Megadeth didn't quite get "buried" by the sands of time the way Metallica did.

Lyrics
Some of Metallica's early gems usually had Mustaine co-writing them, and when you compare lyrical content album by album, Mustaine actually got better with time, compared to Metallica's complete dumbing down after ... And Justice For All. It's very difficult to match wits with Mustaine on numbers like "Holy Wars" and "Symphony of Destruction" and even the rare tunes like "Kill the King" or "Go To Hell". The only lyricists that I would place ahead of Mustaine, from a political side, would be Skyclad's Martin Walkyier and Anacrusis's Ken Nardi, and these last two are what I consider true lyrical geniuses of the genre, so I rank Mustaine in very exclusive company.

It may be awhile before I pick up a Metallica album again, but Megadeth is never too far away from my listening proclivities.

I liked Metallica plenty until about 1990....and while I still enjoy a lot of what they did from  "Kill 'Em All"   to  "And Justice...."  when I first heard Megadeth,  that did it for me.      "Peace Sells...."   was my formal introduction to them, and I looked far more forward to their newer releases than I ever did Metallica's.

Megadeth. Metallica was good until Black Album, after that they have only some good songs, but Megadeth still make great albums.

Hmmmm...Megaduck.  Donald Duck as Dave Mustaine.  Having Donald Duck singing Mechanix, A Tout Le Monde or Rust In Peace would be hysterical!

I like both Megadeth and Metallica.  Metallica's older stuff (pre-Load) is better than Megadeth in a lot of cases.  Vocally, Hetfield is a heckuva lot better than Mustaine was...though, I think the tables have turned against James when Megadeth released Cryptic Writings.  Mustaine showed everyone who doubted him that he could do as good as Hetfield in the vocal dept.  Megadeth has also never sold out and become a purely commerical entitey like Metallica has.
