Don't want to keep a fine thread down. Roaming JP cross? Earlier in the week. Shot of it overlooking Ipanema beach in Rio. COOLD water. Surfers out there in full body suits, though.

Hey, no fair telling the truth that I am actually 6'3 and 400 lbs! LOL!!!!
Thinking back, I cannot remember how many members of the forum I have met in person. No matter. I have yet to be disappointed. While I don't post there, I extend that to the "Q" (now "ex-Q") as well. Great fans, one and all.
I can tell even when it's only one I've met, and I'm glad it was such a great friend as the little guy (taller than I pictured btw) so kinda get the feeling.
Hopefully we'll have the chance to get to meet more people here

Yep, thats more than a yurt. no idea what to call it. interesting.
[Vaillant 3.0] Thursday, April 21, 2016 12:00:02 AM
Hope you get to go, HB. It's a great place for hiking and swimming.
As for the units? I have no idea what they're called. I did look up images of yurts and it's nothing like where we slept Saturday night. Each "unit" consists of three walls made of concrete and the roof and front are made of a canvas-like material (it does get cold at night, so I'd recommend bringing a heater...and an extension cord or two). There's sparse furniture, mainly the beds (one regular and a bunk bed, hidden from view) and a storage rack for possessions. Electricity is available, and there's a lighting fixture inside the unit and in the "patio" area. Also a small firepit a little further out (not pictured). Kinda like a home away from home for city-slickers.
Bare camping when around Bears is important. keep safe. were those structures called Yurts?
nice hybrid for everyone.
I really want to head that way one day

We stayed overnight at this one camp that had a pretty interesting setup. The lodgings aren't necessarily cabins nor tents. Seems like a hybrid version just for city folks like myself and my family. Not the full camping experience, but it was pretty cool, especially since we got to wake up to a view like this.
And if you walk further down the camp and cross this one bridge, you get this view. Not too shabby!

Yup, thankfully I left that park with limbs (and life) intact. This is proves. HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Speaking of bears, though, check it out - bear-proof trash bins! Not pictured? Bear-proof food storage bins right outside every unit on the campsite. Big metal boxes where you MUST store your food plus anything that has a scent on it (scented hand sanitizers, for example). Not doing so will get you fined and/or evicted from your unit.
WAY kewl. Thanks for sharing such lovely pix!! Glad you weren't eaten by a bear as well.

Yosemite Falls (upper and lower). Never thought that the base of a waterfall could be so windy!

Plenty where that came from, Guids. Seriously, I think I took pics every two feet. Beautiful valley!!! Only wish that I could explore it a bit more. Never enough time during the weekend (especially when admission is free during that particular weekend.......so many peoplel!!!).
Yes, we did have a lovely time in Detroit. Shame I couldn't have stayed longer.
HB, I think you'd like the place. Sure there are some places where everything has gone derelict but that just means all that land is open for the new Renaissance to come.
Richmond, VA had whole neighborhoods of falling down old beutiful buildings left to rot way too many years. They are now being reborn and the downtown area is looking like I remember it as a small child, no, actually better than I remember it. From Murder capitol, when I was at college there, to gentrified in 27 years. Not a bad record.
Freakin' BEAUTIFUL city! You've obviously never been, HB, so I'll let it slide. Try looking up the new Red Wings monolithic project now underway. I am always amazed at how this city continues to improve at each visit. Plus, I could watch the EASTERN Happy New Year's celebration! LOL!!!

Yeah, no I havent been there. I would go to see Priest, if I could swing it.....
Although, those nice folks did put on fireworks for my moms birthday when she lived in the canadian city just south of there.

Hello! Detroit Bitch! I can't spell beaaaches so must go with traditional spelling.
Don't delete July returned PM. It's actually very recent, the Stupid F#!*!*#$! Message Box keeps flipping me the dreaded Error 500 for any new PMs I try to write.

Damned if I wasn't grilled going though security at CDG (Paris) airport! Wearing a Priest shirt? Dude hits me with a "what is your fave album," "what is your fav song," etc.
Half interest on his part, half grilling me for security purposes.
Had to answer....Defenders was #1 for me.

HAAA!! Thanks! I have yet to put up my Festivus Pole. Good thing that I didn't put it away since last year (also why I don't unpack).
Welcome back, Guids. Glad to read that you caught a kewl concert while in Paris.
Sucks about those floods and tornadoes, though. At least they let you live to celebrate another Festivus!

On a similar note, DAMN, did I run into some weather here. Fuckin' TX (you know who I blame) had some shit weather that forced the plane to take a northern pass over Michigan! Drive to get the pets was almost the making of a YouTube vid as flash floods / tornados hit all around. BTW, no, Vail. That was NO fun! Still, I see the same idiot(s) must be posting as I have 117+ messages with only 30 getting through! Screw you, fucktards. No time to waste on you.
Paris is amazing this time of year. Last night (today? hard to tell after a 10 hour+ flight, then connection in Dallas....that I won't speak smack about only because of Guitardude who has been a great friend), I stumble across a free Xmas concert at night in Notre Dame! Gregorian? Pipe organ? Full choir? FREE?!? I've been there many times but was just trying to catch the metro back when I stumbled across a line of people waiting late at night. Absolutely amazing. Started just as I arrived and I stayed for the entire performance.

Already home as of a few LOOOONG hours ago, compadre. Would have loved to have taken you up on that kind offer but put it on hold. I'll have a trip to England someday. Never been.
Beautiful flight but no sleep. Hotel looks right onto the Monument of the Republique and, man, you should see how it is adorned with tributes from the shooting. Took a couple of shots early this morning from the balcony but hope to get better ones tomorrow as the massacre was right around the corner. Plan to stop by to see what that looks like tomorow. TC folks!
