Yup, read that earlier today. 13 dead and a missing infant. Very sad.

Yeah you're probably right, but it's not a bad idea to be prepared. I put together an emergency kit after the 2011 Christchurch quake here, people are still recovering from that.

I was watching the evening news. Funny thing was that, moments before the 5.1 hit, the anchor lady was talking about a couple of smaller quakes that took place during the day. The bigger one came from the same area as the small ones, too.
We're sure having a "rockin'" weekend here in SoCal, aren't we?
HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm predicting that for the next few days we're gonna get a bunch of "Are You Prepared for the Next Quake?" segments on the local news channels.

The last one we had here was a 6.something, centred about 50km away and I nearly shit myself - we were walking home from taking Ada to the local school playground, we were just between a couple of buidlings next to the front carpark and I heard it coming, like a train. Everything started moving really bad so we grabbed Ada and ran in to the open. Thankfully no damage for us either, just a broken photo frame which is replaceable. They sure give you a fright, makes you appreciate how strong mother nature is.

Good shake in CA means one is coming here soon. Worst two fault lines in the US: San Andreas and New Madrid.
