the long walk was my favorite out of that set.  might be my favorite SK story of all time.  The Rage was good too.

Metalmanjp, I have never heard of The Road Virus Heads North, is it in a compilation?  At least I think I havent read it.

Today I got Unleashed in the East on cassette and it was killer. The analog form was really cool. Im listening to metal works, im on blood red skies.

While the one I mentioned is simply outstanding, the Bachman Books (written under that pseudonym) are a group of really cool short stories. He won't authorize a reprint in the US because it includes "Rage" that detailed a HS shooting before it actually happened. Google it.

You won't regret reading "11/22/63." It is great. Went on a small (heh) run today and was tempted to finish listening to my second audiobook ever. NY Times had it as top five fiction books of the year and a movie is now in the works.

Love Stephen King. Rose Madder was great and a short story The Road Virus Heads North was too. He has so many good ones can't mention all.

yeah, I figured that might run over time.  how long for you to sit and read it.  I read fast, could probably do the book in the time it takes you to run the marathon.

just cant get into listening.

back on topic, listening to "a tout le monde" (set me free)

HA! No, I am no "supermarathoner." I just looked, the unabridged version is easily 30+ hours. I am just finishing it up with these last distance runs before a full marathon. Don't know what my time will be after running 26.2 miles but I might just have time to listen to the whole thing over again!

Never really thought about listening to audiobooks either until another distance runner kept hammering how "Into Thin Air" was so good. Indeed, it was as is this one by King.

What the heck have you been brooding over, man? I remember when you posted all those concerts you had attended I made a comment of praise for your diversity of tastes, not a criticism in the least.
You certainly got my comment about Priest (or lack thereof) under your nails, didn't you? Let it go. Breathe. Take up yoga.

Anyhoo, back to the topic. Listening to right now? Nothing at the moment but I just finished a run to the audiobook "10/22/63" by Stephen King. Fantastic novel and a great reader.

I remember when I used to put my ipod on shuffle and out of boredom post the songs here.
Then a certain someone had to make a comment to the effect, "Gee, look at me and all the different music I listen to".
Not an exact quote but it was basically ridiculing me for it. I've seen the same idiot do it here multiple times. I wonder
if he even pays attention to what he says sometimes.

Too bad the vid starts short. For those who know the live version, Udo starts with a typical "sing along" series of screams until the last one. I swear to God, he makes that unholy sound as if he were inhaling a scream. I couldn't reproduce it under penalty of death.

Ed note. This didn't work for me playing here. Hit the YouTube icon to see it. I swear. I love Halford but he couldn't make that first scream.

I just had my wife watching it and it was kind of funny. When the video started she put her hands on her hip
and kind of cocked her head to the side a little and started giving me that "WTF is this?" look. After about
a minute she had a little head bob going to the beat and by the end of the video she was doing the weird
little dance steps they do.  I thought it was amusing so I figured I'd share that with you.

Alright. I just didn't realize at first how serious you are with playing in a band. And I understand what you mean by saying you want to do something lasting, something lasting at least in your own life. I have written some poem collections myself, five collections actually, and I got them published as one book. I knew that not many people care about poetry and I certainly knew I wouldn't make any money with the book, but it just felt nice to get it published and if one hundred people liked those poems, hey, great, I'm perfectly happy with that. So, I can't build a house, there's more than enough trees where I live and I probably never get married, but at least I wrote a book. In finnish of course because I'm finnish, in english I couldn't write much more than what you can see here. So, yes, the point is to do something that matters to you and if you can be happy with the end result, then everything's fine - if some other people like what you do that's a nice bonus, but not necessarily that important.
[GuardianX] Monday, October 08, 2012 1:12:32 PM
Quote: "to look like Rob did" [end] Think you are one of a few people now, who discovered that idea I had. And ... yeah ... I feels quite strange without my hair. Well ... I had the guts to cut my hair off and act in an amateur video clip, covering a song which could be way to big for us, playing along to the rest of the band, whose members did not learn / take any lessons in their instruments --- including myself. And now I'm proud as f*ck!

You mentioned that you were not sure about 'the point' of the clip. Well, I can't tell you about the others' motivation. But I can tell you about my reasons to do - for example - that video [on the web].

=> Many people say that man should do three things in life:

I. build a house
II. plant a tree
III. have a child
I will probably never have a chance to have a child with the one I loved. And since the day I came to this conclusion, I have been looking for a possibility to leave something behind that would last for long. I searched for something that would still be there, even if I had already been gone forever. And exactly THAT is the reason, why I’m still playing guitar and keep on singing. The interpretation of “Heading out to the highway” has been the first real video clip in combination with my work as a musician. And that again is why “Heading out to the highway” is my “little child”. <=

And this is what I told Jayne Andrews, when I asekd for publishing permission.

Best regards ...

[Pepe2] Monday, October 08, 2012 11:07:34 AM
You sacrificed your long hair to look like Rob did? Well. That certainly IS dedication. I know. I would feel naked without my long hair. There is, of course, all kind of Judas Priest covers. The most memorable to me has been Pat Boone's You've got another thing coming. At first I thought it was a joke and sure, it IS a very tongue in cheek kind of thing, but then again, it also shows that a heavy metal song can be... well, just a song. Which is interesting - music is music and the same song can be done in many different ways. I'm not putting down your version of  "Highway", it does have a certain light feeling in it and would actually be good driving music, just like the original is - if not even more so, just because of that light, mellow, relaxed feel. So, no problems, I can be critical but I can be less critical too, hehe...
[GuardianX] Monday, October 08, 2012 10:08:24 AM
The clip is definitely not meant to be a kind of joke. If I had wanted to make a joke or had wanted to make fun about anyone - except myself - I would never ever have sacrificed two years of groth of hair. Some of you might have noticed that the guitar playing guy and the singer in the clip are one and the same person. Hell, yeah! "I sacrificed my hair to kick some f*ckin' ass." You might take THAT fact quite funny, don't you? Best regards ...

Welllll... I can understand you guys had fun doing that video but I also got the feeling you made it just for yourselves as an inside joke... so what I'm supposed to say... that it's a good version of a classic Judas Priest song? There's some dedicated Judas Priest cover bands already so I'm not sure what's the point of this video. Good luck and good night is all I can say, really.
[guidogodoy] Sunday, October 07, 2012 1:58:23 PM
HAAA! Way cool! It was obvious that you were all having a blast making the video and now we even have "behind the scenes" commentary! Outstanding!
I was wondering who knew the police to get the car in there. Nice to know that you weren't arrested while making your "homage."

[Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by GuardianX from Sunday, October 07, 2012 10:56:09 AM)
[GuardianX] Sunday, October 07, 2012 10:56:09 AM

Thank you very much. I have been afraid of posting that into the board at first. I was thinkig of the huge mass of 'true' Priest fans, trying to tear us down after watching the clip. As a small local band, we always looked up to those great bands like Judas Priest, Saxon etc. of course. But we also saw some kind of 'idols' in other local bands, having been on stage much longer. One of that bands was called NOIZE. Those guys nearly 'lived' with us in the same practicing room for about ten years. Their cover version of the song inspired me to also do that song, which was originally released in the year I was born. In every case of life, I think it is very important to have such idols, since they are the ones that bring you forward in the end.

People shuold not take our video too serious. I am definitely not a Priest singer. But "Heading out to the highway" is quite a cool song made by one of the biggest bands on earth. Our interpretation is just meant to be a link to the past ... for memory purposes. People don't know that we did not get into a studio for recording. We used an old personal computer instead. We also did not have a professional camera, but used the video function of a standard digital photo-cam instead. As we prepared for "the race" ... to be located at a bus stop near the high school we all went to ... the local security watched us and called the police. We had already done a few pre-start-shots, when the police arrived. Finally - after long minutes of discussion, trying to not get arrested - we still had both cars parking parallel in the middle of the street. Being forced to drive away anyway ... we got the chance / were allowed to do that last shot. And so we did. This is actually the reason, why you do not see more takes of the race itself. In the end, I think, our hometown police dept. still doesn't know that it is co-starring in the clip.

It was really fun. And that is, what it always should be.

Yours

For the past month or so, the JP songs that I have been listening to in order to get "MY FIX" are "Invader" and "Here Come the Tears".

By the way, there are some great "covers" of these songs also.  That... there should be for these 2 great songs!

Nice! Liked some of those camera angles (eg. guitar cam..heh). Great throwback to the vid getting those cars ready for the race too!

We're so sorry! Actually we're not. Special thanks to Jayne Andrews for permission.

 Fastway: Leave the light on.

Eddie Clarke, Motörhead's guitarist 1977-1982, still makes music. Sometimes. When he feels like it.

Eddie's style in Motörhead was unique, fascinating - fast and furious, yet soulful in it's own way. I have never heard anything quite like it. Eddie's band after Motörhead, Fastway, recorded two good albums, the self titled debut 1983 & All fired up 1984, powerful, bluesy stuff, and now Eddie is back with a new band, the name is still Fastway, but with different guys than before. It's very basic stuff, bluesy hard rock, nothing new really, but sounds good.
