Judas Priest Tour Confirmed For 2011

terrybezer / News / 15/11/2010 15:05pm

The metal legends are to hit the road in 2011! Get full details inside!

Judas Priest’s legendary guitarist K.K. Dowling has confirmed that Judas Priest will be touring in 2011.

Speaking on his blog, the iconic axeman has said: “It seems that the time has come for us to put the touring wheels in motion for our next world tour in 2011!

“It’s funny but these days around – about this time – I can’t help but reflect on the past when we had to load the touring van ourselves. Sometimes in the ice and snow, being afraid that we would get frostbites on our fingers and not be able to play the gig!

“It was our great fortune, as time passed, to go on and tour with almost every band that you can
think of. Some tours included very cool line-ups that many people may not even be aware of: e.g.
Priest, Whitesnake & Iron Maiden / Priest, Scorpions & Def Leppard / Priest & UFO… and the
list goes on.

“People often ask me what it’s like to be on a tour and I always say the same things about it: simply
it’s the hardest thing that you will ever do, but you wouldn’t change it for the world. The travelling
becomes such a major part of your life that you actually feel like a piece of luggage yourself! But
I must confess when you get to go to places that you have never been before like Korea, Turkey,
Romania, Columbia etc. it’s no surprise that you feel like the luckiest man alive. I guess mainly
because for me – growing up as a kid – thinking of going to any of these places would have been
pure fantasy.”

Pretty much official then! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL I missed this question when it was originally posted - I have it! Yay! It's cheese metal at it's best, a number of the songs anyways, but me likey.
Ok guys, here's a good interview with Rob. Mostly about Made of Metal, but a couple of good points to do with Priest I will cut and paste below:

www.ultimate-guitar.com/interviews/hit_the_lights/rob_halford_godfather_of_metal__metal_god_will_be_side_by_side.html

Will you be conducting any live solo dates in 2011?

No - it's all Priest. As we're talking right now, I'll be back home from the Ozzy tour and will see Glenn and so on. We'll just get together, and we'll figure out what the plans are for next year which is primarily getting back out on the road again, Priest having had a year off.

Are there any plans for a new Judas Priest album?

I'm sure there'll be something in the not too distant future because that's what we've been doing since day one, haven't we? We're a metal band, and we write, record, and tour. We're a bit more laid back these days; there's not the rush and the contractual obligations that there used to be. When we're ready, we're ready to do something like that. As usual though, as soon as we know what we're doing, we'll let everybody know on the website.

MIKE PORTNOY Quits DREAM THEATER - Sep. 8, 2010
Drummer Mike Portnoy of progressive metal giants DREAM THEATER has released the following statement:

"I am about to write something I never imagined I'd ever write.

"After 25 years, I have decided to leave DREAM THEATER... the band I founded, led and truly loved for a quarter of a century.

"To many people this will come as a complete shock, and will also likely be misunderstood by some, but please believe me that it is not a hasty decision...it is something I have struggled with for the last year or so....

"After having had such amazing experiences playing with HAIL!, TRANSATLANTIC and AVENGED SEVENFOLD this past year, I have sadly come to the conclusion that I have recently had more fun and better personal relations with these other projects than I have for a while now in DREAM THEATER.

"Please don't misinterpret me, I love the DREAM THEATER guys dearly and have a long history, friendship and bond that runs incredibly deep with them... it's just that I think we are in serious need of a little break.

"DREAM THEATER was always my baby...and I nurtured that baby every single day and waking moment of my life since 1985... 24/7, 365... never taking time off from DREAM THEATER's never-ending responsibilites (even when the band was 'off' between cycles)... working overtime and way beyond the call of duty that most sane people ever would do for a band.

"But I've come to the conclusion that the DREAM THEATER machine was starting to burn me out...and I really needed a break from the band in order to save my relationship with the other members and keep my DREAM THEATER spirit hungry and inspired.

"We have been on an endless write/record/tour cycle for almost 20 years now (of which I have overseen EVERY aspect without a break) and while a few months apart from each other here and there over the years has been much needed and helpful, I honestly hoped the band could simply agree with me to taking a bit of a 'hiatus' to recharge our batteries and 'save me from ourselves'...

"Sadly, in discussing this with the guys, they determined they do not share my feelings and have decided to continue without me rather than take a breather... I even offered to do some occasional work throughout 2011 against my initial wishes, but it was not to be...

"While it truly hurts for me to even think of a DREAM THEATER without Mike Portnoy (hell, my father named the band!!), I do not want to stand in their way...so I have decided to sacrifice myself and simply leave the band so as to not hold them back against their wishes.

"Strangely enough, I just read an interview that I recently did that asked me about the future of DREAM THEATER and I talked about 'always following your heart and being true to yourself'... Sadly, I must say that at this particular moment, my heart is not with DREAM THEATER...and I would simply be 'going through the motions,' and would honestly NOT be true to myself if I stayed for the sake of obligation without taking the break I felt I needed.

"I wish the guys the best and hope the music and legacy we created together is enjoyed by fans for decades to come... I am proud of every album we made, every song we wrote and every show we played....

"I'm sorry to all the disappointed DREAM THEATER fans around the world... I really tried to salvage the situation and make it work... I honestly just wanted a break (not a split)... but happiness cannot be forced, it needs to come from within.

"You DREAM THEATER fans are the greatest fans in the world and as you all know, I have always busted my ass for you guys and I hope that you will stay with me on my future musical journey, wherever it may lead me.... (and as you all know my work ethic, there will surely be no shortage of future Mike Portnoy projects!)"

Hellrider,
Don't give up on a possible Halford show near you just yet. I was just reading an email from Halford's site.
He has Japan and South American dates coming up but in November and December he is adding shows.
Dates and sites to be announced Sept. 21. Good luck. I'm not trying to be greedy (f*ck it, yes I am) but I hope he plays clubs
and one of the dates is Pittsburgh.

City changing name for band frontman

A village in northwest Ohio plans to change its name for a day in honor of Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider, who's visiting town to host a March of Dimes Bikers for Babies ride.

Snider, known for 1980s heavy metal songs such as "We're Not Gonna take It" and "I Wanna Rock," also hosts the nationally syndicated radio show, House of Hair.

The ride of about 7 miles from Lima to Cridersville is Aug. 21. Cridersville plans to change its name to Sniderville during the event, which raises funds to help fight premature birth.

Snider is the 2010 Bikers for Babies national spokesman.

He had jokingly suggested that Cridersville change its name when a listener from the town requested a song on his radio show. He says the honor is "one of the coolest things that's ever happened" to him.

Heheh- A bit gushing, isn't it? Who knows, maybe it will be that good. I am still holding out hope. Some hope... well, a bit- well, I'd like it to have some good songs anyway.
I wish they would stop re-using song titles like that. Bruce had a solo track called the Wicker Man which pre-dates the song from the Brave New World album. It's confusing if nothing else.

First Halford Show In 7 Years

View videos here:http://www.youtube.com/user/HobRalford

HALFORD, the band fronted by JUDAS PRIEST singer Rob Halford, played its first show in more than seven years last night (Saturday, July 17) at the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco, California.

The group's setlist was as follows:

01. Silent Screams
02. Made Of Metal
03. Resurrection
04. Made In Hell
05. Never Again
06. Drop Out
07. Golgotha
08. Heart Of A Lion
09. Never Satisfied
10. I Am Alive
11. Saviour

Encore:

12. Crystal
13. Rock The World Forever

Fan-filmed video footage of the concert can be viewed below.

Prior to the San Francisco show, HALFORD's last gig took place on June 6, 2003 in Anaheim, California.

HALFORD released a new single, "The Mower", on June 25 via HalfordMusic.com. The track is the first single from HALFORD's new album, "Halford IV - Made Of Metal", which will be released in October.

HALFORD's last album, "Halford III - Winter Songs", sold 1,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 26 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

"Halford III - Winter Songs" was Rob's first solo release in more than seven years, and it included a collection of new Halford-penned tracks plus traditional holiday favorites presented with original arrangements by HALFORD (Rob Halford on vocals, Roy Z. on guitar, Metal Mike Chlasciak on guitar, Mike Davis on bass and Bobby Jarzombek on drums).

Metal God Records and Rob Halford recently announced plans to release "Halford - Live In Anaheim Original 2CD Soundtrack", "Halford Crucible - Remixed & Remastered" and "Halford - Live In Anaheim" DVD, a 5.1, 23-song, two-plus-hour film documenting Rob Halford's 2002-2003 solo release ("Crucible") and tour.

Armed with metal's most diverse band of the decade, "Halford - Live In Anaheim" is an intimate, in-your-face, solo performance featuring HALFORD, FIGHT and JUDAS PRIEST classics: "Golgotha", "The Heretic", "Sun", "Into The Pit", "Light Comes Out Of Black", "Painkiller", "Rapid Fire", "Never Satisfied", and more. Also featured are bonus live tracks from HALFORD's Tokyo, Japan performances February 2003.

Metal Hammer have revied the forthcoming Iron Maiden album The Final Frontier. Here is the review. I think Brian_Evans may be writing for Metal Hammer incognito LOL!

IRON MAIDEN The Final Frontier Track-By-Track

Somewhere between the dark and menacing war stories of A Matter Of Life And Death and the prog-tinged melodic bombast of Brave New World, albeit with a vast amount of fresh ideas thrown in for good measure, The Final Frontier is every bit as strong as the last three Maiden albums. The difference between this one and its predecessors is that these songs repeatedly take the Brit metal legends into uncharted territory. This is a demanding album, but one that most Maiden fans are going to absolutely adore…

SATELLITE 15…THE FINAL FRONTIER

Everyone has heard the album’s title track by now, and it’s a straightforward and infectious slab of muscular hard rock that seems destined to open Maiden shows for the foreseeable future…but it’s the first part of this bi-polar album opener that is going to blow fans’ minds. A disorientating maelstrom of swirling distortion, thudding double kicks and bizarre spectral vocals, Satellite 15 is undoubtedly the weirdest thing the band have ever recorded. It’s heavy, it’s left-field and it’s utterly unexpected.

EL DORADO

Opinion seems to be divided about whether El Dorado is simply a solid, straightforward Maiden tune or something genuinely special. In fact, it’s a bit of both; a bold and boisterous seven-minute epic with an infectious chorus and a few deftly-executed twists and turns, all custom-built to go down an absolute storm live.

MOTHER OF MERCY

A dark and menacing song that could easily have been on A Matter Of Life And Death, this is one of those archetypal horrors-of-war anthems that Maiden do so well. It starts with a faintly proggy intro – a whiff of Steve Harris’ beloved Jethro Tull, perhaps – before morphing into a brooding, slow-motion gallop, not a million miles from Stranger In A Strange Land (from Somewhere In Time), but with a much more sinister overall vibe. “Sick of all the killing and the reek of death…” sings Bruce at one point.

COMING HOME

A bombastic, lighters-in-the-air ballad with a difference, Coming Home marries a giant, sing-along chorus to some subtly progressive riffs and a typically adventurous arrangement. Undeniably sentimental, this is plainly Bruce Dickinson’s song, as he sings about returning home and seeing the lights on the runway as his plane descends to Earth. Not many bands could pull this off without setting off the cheese alarm. Maiden do it brilliantly. A live classic in the making.

THE ALCHEMIST

Arguably the most old fashioned song on the album, this punchy four-minute burst of speed, energy and irresistible Lizzy-esque lead guitar harmonies would have fit neatly onto Fear Of The Dark and nimbly ticks all the necessary boxes to please the die-hards. Interestingly, this has the same title as a song from Bruce Dickinson’s classic solo album Chemical Wedding. The two songs are utterly dissimilar, however.

ISLE OF AVALON

Possibly the finest thing on The Final Frontier and certainly one of the strongest songs Maiden have produced in years, Isle Of Avalon takes the band into unfamiliar melodic territory, with a few unconventional time signatures and proggy detours adding to the intense freshness that pervades throughout its nine minute duration, and a simply enormous chorus that will surely translate extremely well live. There’s a vague hint of Paschendale (from 2003’s Dance Of Death) and a nod or two to Maiden’s Somewhere In Time album here.

STARBLIND

Another song that is full of surprises, despite Maiden’s unmistakable sound, this is another epic that brims with great riffs, melodies and subtle textural touches. Almost psychedelic in places, Starblind has a genuinely otherworldly feel, particularly during its intricate midsection which boasts a phenomenal bluesy lead break over some sumptuous, mellow guitar work from the Three Amigos.

THE TALISMAN

Another song that would have fit on A Matter Of Life And Death, The Talisman is dark and complex, but it also flows beautifully, spreading out from its folky intro into a powerful main verse riff and a seriously explosive chorus with Bruce bellowing at the top of his not inconsiderable lungs. Despite being nine minutes long, this one whizzes by in what seems like half that time.

THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING

An eerie, unsettling intro leads into some crushing, doomy chords before this sprawling epic switches direction and heads into a superbly catchy and muscular verse riff and another big chorus. Like many songs on The Final Frontier, The Man Who Would Be King seldom does exactly what you would expect, and yet it all makes perfect sense by the time its rambling, harmony-packed intro fades gently away…

WHEN THE WILD WIND BLOWS

Based on author Raymond Briggs’ grim post-nuclear fallout graphic novel (When The Wind Blows), the final track on Maiden’s 15th album is every bit as bleak and unnerving as its subject matter would seem to demand, and yet this is as musically fascinating and lyrically brave as anything the band have recorded. Densely-layered and uncompromising, this one will take a few listens to sink in, but there is an insane amount of atmosphere and countless inspired melodic touches on display here. A stunning finale.

But there is no need for you to post a "full review" of the album since you like everything by Iron Maiden the same. You'll give each song an A+ all the way across the board so whats the point?  Just like I said a few months ago before you heard any samples...you already like the album just as much as any other Maiden album, you don't have any basis to "discuss" anything, nothing at all. Your such a fuckin joke dude lmao! lol!

Why do you need to wait for the entire cd to be released to give your so called "full review" when we all know what the so called "full review" is going to be,you will say: " Every song on the album is excellent classic Iron Maiden and is as good as anything they have ever done equally" .   Or some arrangements of words meaning the same thing.   So there you have it,your so called "full review" is not needed. You have every right to have your obsessive opinions about Maiden, but again you like everything they do so its a waste of time to post a "full review".

I agree. It is mind-numbingly slow.

What would make anyone want to read YOUR opinion, fanboy?!
[Becks] Wednesday, July 14, 2010 12:32:25 PM
Ok couldn't listen to the whole thing cos it was too slow loading and I need to go to work LOL! Average, to me it's not awful, but it's pretty dull anyways.

Cheers Vail! I still haven't listened to the whole song, I keep running out of time and have to go do other things LOL! I will try to listen properly now lol.

Well I'm waiting until the entire cd is released before I give my full review. You can follow the review in my Maiden thread after the release. Unlike another joker around here that judges the entire cd on just two tracks which is pretty lame in my opinion. Ha! I just can't wait to here the full cd with the three guitar attack!! So far the solos, which are a key ingredient of quality metal, are excellent in what they have released from Final Frontier. Up The Irons!!
