Market the original stuff? That requires an explanation, as it's 2:36pm here and my higher brain functions cease at noon. This one is a creation of MM and Metallark. I was not involved in it. I agree, it is absolutely phenomenal! Metallark wrote the lyrics! GREAT work. Truly superb. Kind of has a "Ripper Owens" sound to it, no? The more I think about it, the more I believe that it would be a far easier (and less hair-pulling) to track all of the orders via a well laid out spreadsheet. I guess my concern now is the shipping. I recall it was a rather daunting task on the last album! The Princess was going crazy with all we had to do! She swore we would never do it again and yet, here we are! HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The last time we just had people send us the shipping cost and then we sent out the CD. It worked well enough for about 20 or so but then it got very difficult. It is hard to keep track. Scorp, you are absolutely right! At no point did we ever even consider doing the songs exactly like Priest. We are not Priest! Further, I am not Rob!!! Since the very first album, we have tried to give the songs our "spin". Our "sound". You will note the subtleties in MM's guitars and, of course, my vocal changes in the songs. All of this is by design. We have always wanted to pay tribute to Priest, not be them. When you hear one of our songs, we want it to be easy to identify. That was our intent, anyway!
The songs MM has posted are just a taste of what is to come! The album will be full of little surprises and some very fine music. That is our promise to you. I am looking forward to the release! It is still far from completed, as we have told you. These darn things really do take a lot of time and work. MM and Thumper have more work to do next week AND we have Thanksgiving right smack dab in the middle of it all!! We all have families and time is very precious. Once the guys are done with the remaining tracks, we still have post production and whatnot. All very time consuming with the holidays added! I would not expect to see the album until well into the New Year.

It was the the best of times, it was the worst of times. It was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness... HA!!!!!!! And so begins my thoughts on the place wherein we now find ourselves, almost three years and almost two albums later. Such remarkable, unforgettable times. Such moments men dare not actually believe they could live! The epoch of belief I believe Dickens said. In any event, memories that will last a lifetime and all courtesy of a group of men that, sometime in the late 60's or ealry 70's decided to create a band called Judas Priest. My life certainly changed as a result, how about yours?
When MM and I decided to actually do Raw Steel, we found ourselves long on ideas but short on reality. I mean, there we were, ready and willing to do the deed but, could we? Was there really a chance that the stars would align and the fates allow? Could two people, at opposite ends of the United States, really pull this off?? Well, not alone we sure couldn't! It was all about YOU guys. The support. The encouragement. The suggestions. The reminders that this was bigger than just us. Then came Eric (maiden/priest) and Mick and Thumper (Jim) and, in what seemed like a brief blink of an eye, we had a real, live band!
I will never forget the day I met Phil ( Metal Meltdown.) I am sure there are many here that can relate to what I felt. A kinship. A brotherhood. We both knew that we weregoing to be friends. We just knew it. But there is so much more. There is a bond, forged in music, that we share. Something that NOT everyone experiences. And, three years later, the bond grows stronger.
When Raw Steel was released, the response here was overwhelming. I have never been a "rockstar". I have played live in front of crowds. I have known the joy of performing on stage and all the "perks" that one might expect from that, but I was never a real star. For a brief time back in 2006, I felt like a star. YOU made that happen for me. Your words of kindness. Your support and exuberance. For a short while, I was Rob. I was Glenn. I was a real rockstar. I know Phil felt it, too.
When Forged Steel makes it debut, we may not have the same response but, I do not expect it. this is not a novelty any longer. This is real. At last, we have something more than just some guys that get together and play. We have a bond. And....We have YOU. this album has happened because of you and your love for Judas Priest. And through that love, we have created once again. We have taken the clay of passion and we have sculpted a new and wonderful treasure that all of us can take pride in and share. Thank you all for being here and being so caring. Our gift to you is the music. It is our way of paying tribute to the Band that made all of what we live daily possible. Each and every friendship on this site is possible because of Judas Priest and so, we thank them as well. The gift of music is a timeless and ever-giving moment of life. It rewards with no need to say "thank you" because we all are friends.

I do believe that is the most touching and nicest thing I've heard all day DF. However, you, MM, Thumper and the rest have EARNED that respect and encouragement from us. We are a giant family and therefore, you guys are treated as such...mi casa, su casa so to speak. I've been to a bunch of other band sites in the past, but there is absolutely no better place for me to commune with others who share my love for JP and Metal in general than right here.

THUMPER!??!?!!!!!! My Dear Friends of JP.com, I give you THE man with the Golden Sticks who has ALL the kicks and stompin licks!!! Our remarkable drummer, JIM GLEASON!!!!! Thumper, to us all!!!!!! I truly cannot say enough good things about this man. He is, BY FAR, the most talented percussionist I have EVER had the pleasure of working with, and you can trust me when I say I have met a few VERY good drummers! None of them come close to this man. If we cannot get Scott himself to do the album, this is the next best thing!!! We are so incredibly lucky to have him on our new album as we were on the first one!!! As Jim mentioned, it has been a long, LONG time coming!
Nice and warm here in Vegas today! A very nice end to a rather memorable week, indeed. HELLO to one and all !!!!! I have returned to the glorious sun (and warmth) of the beautiful southwest. Never have two people been more pleased to see the sight of the Las Vegas strip from an airplane window! HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SO much to talk about! So many new and wonderful memories for the Princess and I. As expected, MM was the consummate host. And for all those that are interested, just look up the word "quaint" in the dictionary and there will be a picture of MM's house! We were truly taken with his beautiful home and lovely neighborhood.
I am sure there will be pics to review soon. As mentioned, the recording went surprisingly well. VERY smooth. I would like to think it is the result of having done this before, but there is clearly an element of luck in play!!! I will chat more on the trip shortly!!! |
