Thanks. Notice where those logs sit. On the downhill side to stop the burning logs from rolling off into the woods to the right! LOL!!!
Such terrain makes for some wicked croquet games, all I can say. [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by jerZgirl from Friday, July 04, 2008 9:35:14 PM)

LOL !!! Farmhouse sounds like mine! Check out the "logs" around my burn pit. Just some telephone pole I found had toppled when I took possession. Didn't seem like anyone was coming back to get it. My friend's family owns a hunting lodge on 100 odd acres in nowhere ny. We almost caused countless forest fires just blowing things up. LOL The best was when we'd burn the garbage and throw aresol cans in there, or bullets (her dad has enough ammo and guns for a war). Scare the shit out of newbies that have never been there before.
She since moved to vegas so no more "farm house" (it WAS a farm-till the barn blew up one day!)

Haaa! Here in TN, trying to find out how they treated a telephone pole "back in the day" would certainly get a raised eyebrow or three. LOL!!!! Almost like when I once asked where the recycle bins were in this city.
No worries, not cooking those poles, just a sittin' on 'em. Wait, that should probably be "a settin' on em." Come on, someone, native help is needed! I am clearly a transplant from the north. [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by Where AmI from Friday, July 04, 2008 8:10:58 PM)

Try to find the information of how they do it in your area. I have almost no doubt it's creosote. I could be wrong :)

I thought it was arsenic? That is an old pole and I believe the weatherproofing would have still been arsenic. Like pressure treated lumber, no?
As for the creosote, I think I just ate my share in the burnt steak I made tonight!

Did you know creosote is a toxic carcinogenic? Telephone polls are treated with creosote.
