[Becks] Wednesday, June 16, 2010 12:30:52 PM

It must have seemed like a good idea at the time, LOL!

Unfortunately, I have to go to work. Fingers crossed for a good result Joe!

FFS.. when is it ever a good idea to pass the ball to a dude lying down on the field? When?

I was surprised he didn't even attempt to jump to stop it. Not as bad as our goalie yesterday though with his swing and miss kick, which was hilarious LOL!

Never cared much for Brazil but I just noticed from this game how many of the players were super cute. Heheh...no wonder N. Korea's team was all over them...literally.

Yeah that missed kick was a shocker! But strangely hilarious LOL!!! We'll see what happens with Moss' ban. Lochead isn't bad, I'm more worried about our older midfielders.
Sounds like Brazil were a disappointment - maybe soccer fans have just been spoilt a bit with their finesse over the years lol.

That was an awesome result for our guys to come away with a point. Can't wait until Moss' ban is over. That Paston is a real weakness at the back. I wouldn't be playing Lochead either. I think Moss becomes available again for the Paraguay game.

Oh, I do agree about the Spanish, tho. Hate Honduras - we have unsettled football scores with the bastards... Swiss arent my favourites either, so it will be Spain and Chile in that group for me.

You forgot to mention that I like gulags, purges, baby-eating and long walks on the beach.

Sorry, but Brazil wasnt itself tonight. If the mighty Brazil, the worst fear of every other team in the world, 5-times champions of the world, only team that never missed a world cup, had to wait for so long to score against such an outsider, and then even to recieve a goal from them... Sorry, I call it a disapointment. Brazilians are primadonas, which they always were, but there was a time when they were primadonas for a reason. Not anymore.

I was really afraid that the Koreans will go for a bunker, just defensive play with no attacks, but that wasnt so. They can really be proud of themselves.

Oh, you just like Stalinist Dictatorships and Kim Jong-il.

If you can't buy a jersey, how about you just get a pair of his funky glasses?

Like I said from the start...I am hoping for good things for Spain this time around. They were looking strong. I agree in that it isn't Brazil's year.

Well, I dont have a North Korean shirt to bet, but after tonight, I just might start looking for one.

I vote this the best game so far. The Brazilians, although they won, were IMO a BIG disapointment. Looking at statistics and predictions, they should have dominated the game, but really, they were lucky it ended with 2-1. The Koreans were great, played with all their hearts, and played like real sportsmen. Practicly no fouls, and when they did commit one, apologosied right away, no arguing with the referee... I really, really wish them all the best, and I will root for them in both games (or hopefully more) that they have in front of them.

You mean Urugvay? But yeah, I will root for SA.

Tonight will be interesting too. Apparently, the North Korean team is a total enigma. Two players play in Japan, one in Russia, but all the rest play in North Korea, and there just doesnt seem to be any information about the quality of the team. I will be rooting for them, and I hope they can upset Brazil, which has seen better days.

Well, if there needs to be a winner, there are tie-brakers. Not in leagues, or group stages of tournaments, when teams play for points (3 for a victory, 1 for draw, 0 for losing), but in knock-out games, there additional time of two times 15 minutes, if there is no victor after that, theres penalty shootouts. Its not like two teams can win the same trophy.   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Deep Freeze from Tuesday, June 15, 2010 7:47:13 AM)

Football has "overtime". It is a "sudden death" format which means the first team to score wins (College rules are a bit different). Baseball goes until there is a winner. No time limits.  I have seen games that were suspended until the next day but that does not seem to happen anymore. They just keep playing until there is a victor. How can one call something a "win" when there is no score??? Sort of like passing kids through school regardless of their grades, huh??....HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"No Soccer Team Left Behind"..... BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

Mhm, should be interesting in this group. All teams with the same number of points, and the same number of goals. Whatever happens, I hope Italy get eliminated. New Zealand and Slovakia are my favourites.

[Becks] Tuesday, June 15, 2010 6:25:09 AM
OMG I am so excited, but need to go back to bed LOL! NZ just drew 1-1 against Slovakia - our second appearance at a world cup, and our first ever point! Scored in extra time! YAY!!!! I do think Slovakia played better overall (we had periods of good play), the ref liked to give away free kicks, but anyway, YAY!
[Deep Freeze] Tuesday, June 15, 2010 6:22:44 AM
Well, I really cannot make an intelligent comment as I do not understand the game at all. Kind of looks like hockey and I struggle with THAT as well.  All seems incredibly long and drawn out...and this is coming from a BASEBALL fan! Just makes NO sense to play a game where there is the chance that it will "end" in a TIE! All seems so pointless.

As for all the sexual innuendo...well, that is not for me to decide. HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then again, it means some really interesting situations. Not that long ago the Japanese team lost 2 -1, even tho they scored all three goals.

Well, I was rooting for Paraguay. I was delighted when they scored, and not so much when the Macaroners equalised. Good game overall. Is it just me, or is this world cup really a bit of a drag? Save for this game and yesterdays game between Australia and Germany, we are yet to see a really exciting match. Maybe tomorrow with North Korea and Brazil? I will be rooting for the Koreans in any case.

As far as your team is concerned, Id say that todays result is good, since neither of your future opponents got three points. But then again, its really to early to say anything for sure.

[joedraper] Monday, June 14, 2010 4:40:38 AM

So far it has gone pretty well and I hope that it does continue to go well. Yep, only the one report of the hotel burglary and the drunk Australian who passed out and woke up sanse wallet or cell phone but later on someone contaced him to let them know that they found his phone.

Yes, we are in a bad way but a shitload of insfrastsructure was upgraded and all the stadiums were freshly built up for the event so I do think that right now FIFA sort of own the country but the feeling in the air is very festivy and everyone seems to be getting along. I hope it lasts.

JJ bare in mind that the media will broadcast the worst about SA that they can. I'm not saying that it isn't bad but so far the WC seems to be running smoothley. There were a shitload of striking done before the WC but it seems to have been taken care of.

South Africa is basically a dictatorship. There is no way in hell that tinpot country with it's ratshit economy put in the best bid for that World Cup. They got the cup through lining the pockets of people like Sepp Blatter with shitloads of cash. It's fully corrupt. For what possible reason would you put the premier sporting event in the world in a country where you can't walk around the streets in the major cities at night. Insane. The Fifa heads are even more corrupt than the IOC heads.

There was a riot after the Aus / Kraut game. The workers at the football stadiums went on strike demanding better wages. So in true South African fashion the cops went in with tear gas, nightsticks and plastic bullets, as you do when your slaves start playing up.

They present a forward thinking and politically correct public face but they hate everyone. Abbos, Blacks, Pacific Islanders, Lebanese, Arabs, Asians, Poms, Indians, Americans, Maoris,  just everyone. Honest if you spoke to the average middle class Aussie about racism or something they would say the same as everyone else about how it's disgraceful etc. But if a family of abbos moved into their street they would be seething. They would move, they'd be shitting themselves about the value of their house going down and it probably would because all of them hate everyone and noone would move into the street.

He's actually in trouble at the moment too for making racist comments. It cracks me up that because everyone knows that all Aussies are racist.

Ahhh it's been happening for years, Kiwi players always get hit harder than say Andrew Johns ever would have.

Just double standards, not worth going into if you don't follow it. Basically certain high profile Australian players getting off on serious disciplinary breaches while lesser known players and Kiwi players are handed out playing bans on less serious charges. It stinks.

Nah I hate league LOL!!! What's happening with the judiciary anyway? There's always some random drama going on with league lol.

It was a stupid tackle, not as nasty as the stupid tackle he did on Leo Bertos, but still very dumb. Karma is a bitch eh lol.

Yeah, that was an absolute mauling wasn't it. I didn't realise till I saw the news tonight that Tim Cahill from Australia got a red card this morning - oops, LOL!!!!
Looking forward to Italy v Paraguay tomorrow morning, that should be interesting for us.

The Hun looked very good out there. They were actually one of the more entertaining teams at the last World Cup too. I relished every second of that rape. There's nothing better as an NZer than seeing Australia destroyed in a sporting event.
[Becks] Monday, June 14, 2010 12:17:57 AM

Yeah! Germany is an excellent team, and very young too apparently. A bright future ahead for their national squad I think!

NZs first game is tomorrow and I am so excited. 11:30pm our time, against Slovakia.

I watched that game earlier today. Australia seemed a little lazy in the field (no offence to the Aussies out there). Go Germany!!

Hey Guido! Enjoy that new ball of yours. Just don't play it anywhere near your JP collection!!

LOL Guido!

Watching highlights of the Australia vs Germany, what a smashing. Australia were picked apart. Tim Cahill is a mega dick too, got a red card, serves him right for tackling like a dick.

Ok, couldn't help it...I bought the freakin' ball.

YES!!! First world cup victory since 1990, first at all as an independant nation... The streets have been deserted today, thats for sure.

Tho I hope that we will do better in next matches, since our boys havent shown everything they could today.

Serbia is doing good too against Ghana... I hope they score soon!
[joedraper] Sunday, June 13, 2010 6:13:40 AM
Well! The Slovenians are having the upper hand today!
I'm sposed to be rooting for all African countries so the Algerians are looking pretty sad right now.. sniff sniff..
[Becks] Saturday, June 12, 2010 3:19:47 PM
Oh man Guido, I know the sort of time slowing down scenario that you are talking about! Lucky!
LOL Joe, the ABs kicked Irish butt last night, I think SA are playing/have played France this weekend. The SA rugby team is hard core lol. A lot of people from other countries are supporting the All Whites (just to clarify - that refers to their uniform LOL) cos we're a major underdog, lol.

HAAAA!!!! I remember the moment when my LIFE flashed before my eyes as a teen. During another WC, I am doing exactly what I have always done during most matches..namely, booting the ball off of walls, etc in the house. We had just come back from Puerto Rico where my Mom talked Pop into buying her these massive (expensive as hell) Lladró porcelain figures of Don Quijote and Sancho Panza. Had them set way up high on a shelf.

Well, I launch the ball full boot that direction and as soon as it leaves my foot, time slows to a crawl as I could see the curve coming. Right AT those figures. Yeah, I had friends over and we had a bit of beer. Man, I seriously shit three bricks in about 1/2 a second seeing the trajetory. Miracles of miracles, the ball hits BETWEEN both of these $1000+ statues, hits the wall and bounces right back. I nearly passed out.

Needless to say, there was no more ball-playing in the house after that little episode.

Dont underestimate Algeria either - they had to qualify from the African zone, which is a bit harder than qualifying from Europe. Id say that the tomorrow game will be anything but easy. Looking forward to Serbia - Ghana too (its probably not a great feat of thinking to find out who I will be rooting for).

I guess Im pleased with the draw between USA and England, tho I honestly hoped that USA would win... But they were great anyway specialy the keeper.

LOl.. Yesterday the kids left a ball in the living room.. so Craig kicked it to get it out the way and it smashed right into one of his tubes.. He just looked at me and I said "That's why we don't kick balls in the house." I got the evil eye for stating the obvious.. he broke a rare tube on an amp he is trying to sell so now he has to source a tube before he can advertise it hahahahaha... Sorry my evil side is coming out.

Speaking of being over excited, I ALMOST took out one of my own new windows with an errant shot with the ol' ball last night. Booting it around the house it hits the couch and right at the window.

Thank goodness for solid double-pane windows.

I wonder who my SA friends who live in NZ will be rooting for?? My brother in law switched rugby sides so fast it was scary lol. His team here wore black (the sharks) so he just decided that he had the same All Blacks colours so that's who he backs now lol.
