You know Kia, you will likely get a multitude of responses to that question..each of them different! I know what sets them apart for me. I have always said that it is the melodic nature of their music and the lyrics which are thoughtful and never profane. I find that particularly refreshing since it is all too common for bands to resort to one four-letter word after another when they write songs. Priest do not do that. They do not need to. They combine thoughtful lyrics with melodic riffs and a pounding low-end that never overshadows the main riff. It always "stays in the pocket".

Priest started coming on strong at a time when punk was gaining strength and I think they literally saved "hard" rock music. Their image launched a revolution and, through it all, they kept a sound that many have tried to imitate yet no one has. Not in the same manner as Priest! For me, these are the reasons I prefer Judas Priest. I could certainly think of more but I think these are the main reasons.

Hey everyone- apologies for my lack of presence this last week- one of our rabbits got very sick and it seems like I've spent the whole time trying to force feed him liquid food with a dropper (very messy!) but he's much better now, fingers crossed.

Anyhow, my main problem tonight as a certain essay for my uni course that I believe I mentioned to a few of you ages back on online music fan communities and since the time to write it has finally come (because the deadline is next week- eeek..!)- and I wondered if any of you guys could possibly help with this?

I'd like to know what it is you feel is most important about Priest's music and what sets them apart from other bands?

I don't want to take up anybody's time, I would have put this in a separate thread but its not really important enough for that (its just a 1000 word essay); I know that this website is a great example of a place where people from everywhere can come together and share their love of music without prejudice, so this is a kind of tribute, if you see what I mean.

Hope you're all having a great weekend and it's warming up some. All our snow suddenly melted, though we may be due some more..

GOOOOOOD Morning one and ALL!!! VERY exciting day for me!! The live act I have been working with here in Vegas FINALLY has a webpage AND we have a SHOW booked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  We are playing at a place called TURK'S on January 23rd! I believe we are opening for another more established band but, nonetheless, we are doing a show at last!!!!!!!!

The songs we have posted on the web are part of our original set list and the recording quality is TERRIBLE but you can at least get an idea of what we are doing!! I encourage you to stop by, have a listen and even join us as "friends", if you are interested. I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am about getting on stage again!!!! HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very excited, indeed!!!

I did take him to a music store before Christmas and he was kind of mesmerized by all the stuff in there.  He did get a kick out of trying out the drum kits, but they were adult size.  It's good that you got your son a real kit, because I think people waste their money on those ones from the toy store.  They're not nearly sturdy enough for a kid to pound on.  The only drumming we've done here is on Guitar Hero World Tour.  It gives him a bit of an idea of what it's all about.  I'd like the boys to learn real instruments though.  Thanks a lot for the advice.  I think I'll sign him up for some lessons and rent a kit to see how it goes.  HAVE A GREAT DAY METALHEADS!

If he wants to play drums then let him. Zakk is getting his first kit for his birthday next week. He has been taking lessons on an electronic kit but when he gets home his legs aren't long enough to reach my bass pedal or hihat pedal so we decided that he's shown enough promise to get his first 'real' kit lol.  At 8 years oldhe's figured out what is getting his attention and the sooner you start the better. Drum notations are easier to read than any other sheet music but I suggest you get him to some formal lessons asap. Piano is also good and well, every boy wants a guitar lol. Also if he can figure out his timing now from drums my theory is that it will be easier for him to grasp another instrument but you'd hate to get him something that he has no iterest in. You get the most amazing children's drum kits' The one we're getting Zakk comes from a music store (as opposed to a toy store) It is a direct replica of my kit and it has amazing sound. The children's kits usually come with a throne, hi-hats, crash and the hardware. Take him to a music store and let him get a feel there.

Joe - she's ok so far as we know, Craigs mum just said she is feeling very sorry for herself and upset that she hurt her boyfriend (he is just bruised). You're right, she'll talk when she wants to. She's going to the AC/DC concert with us in two weeks, hopefully by then she will be feeling a bit better about things, and may even have a new car. The one she wrote off she'd had for about 10 years, so she had plenty of use out of it. She's just needing to replace it sooner than planned now!

Hi Joe, I hope you get some rest this week.   Watching them in swim lessons is fun.  It's neat to see how they improve from week to week.  Wait till they start taking music lessons or playing team sports like soccer when they run in packs after the ball.  It's hilarious!  Just trying to figure out the music thing for 8 year old.  I think guitar or piano would be a better 1st choice, but he wants to play drums.  Any suggestions out there for what would be a good 1st instrument?

Hi Guardian Angel.. They are pretty much full time now. Last year they were at a playschool and it was 5 days a week but they went 8am to 12:30 pm. Now the go from 8am to 3pm.

As much as I sorely need the extra time in my day, I am missing them something fierce! And I'm soo tired this week! I think I'm having a harder time to adjust than they are (don't get me wrong this is a fantastic thing) lol. I'm just really lost without them around. But I'll get over it lol. Zakk also started swimming lessons yesterday. He's been pestering me for a year now and that boy had a smile on his face from the moment he stepped into the pool until he had to get out.. and then the tears started lol.
It's so cute seeing all the little kids in their swimming caps and gears all swimming in a structured class lol.

Becks, how is your sister in law after her wreck? I can totally identify with what she may be feeling now. I had a pretty bad crash when I was 22. The car was a total write off and it took me a few years to get the courage up to drive again. Once I got back behind the wheel, I was pretty nervous for a while but in time, it did go. I'm much more careful now and much calmer. Give her time, don't pressure her to talk about it but be there for her when she needs to talk about it.

I think there is a Chill band wrapped around the world along those longitudinal lines. lol But good news is today it hit 35 F and was sunny for the first time in almost a month.

Sad to see the damage in Hatie. Reminds me so much of the quake that rocked Mexico City years ago. The death rate will be very high unfortunately.

Not meaning to make my USA friends jealous or anything, but we are currently enjoying a cloudless sunny day, and it's 25 degrees C (77F) - summer is finally here! (for those of you who think that's not very hot, it never gets desert hot here, LOL!) Sunny days make me happy.

You know, my cousin in Chico mentioned that they had a bit of a shaker. Way north, right?

Still, they build and expect shakers there as they do here. Ever look at the data sheets? Surprised me to see that the biggest US earthquakes were CA and TN! I would have guessed CA but Tennessee? Yup. Biggest lake to me is Reelfoot that was formed when a massive shaker got the Mississippi flowing backwards for a time in the 1800s.

Here's hoping the country can recover quickly. Can't imagine how bad it is overthere right now.

There was an earthquake near Eureka (a city about 200 miles north of here) a few days ago and it was 6.0 on the Richter scale. There was damage, but no injuries.

Flip on CNN or Fox. It is all over the news. They really don't have a judge on the damage but I just came from the other half of the island in the República Dominicana and can vouch that the place was already a mess. Natural disasters on top of one of the biggest slums I have ever seen and I didn't even cross into Haiti.

I am guessing that it will be bad once they access the damage. I knew they had a fault line running under the country but a 7.0 is going to be massive in certain parts of the country as they didn't build to withstand such damage. I sit on the New Madrid fault and even have earthquake insurance.

She's a bit shaken from the wreck. May take her a little while to feel comfortable driving. She'll be ok though. I had a nasty car wreak when I was young and for months when I drove past the place it happened my pulse would race and I would grip the wheel like it was all between be and doom! It's a shocking thing sometimes, but we all move past it. I still go past that spot each day on the way home and never think about it.  Her confidence is hurt worse than anything.

Well good morning peeps! Man is it cold here. LOL!

Yeah, I just got back, Vail. Overall, a nice little trip. República Dominicana, St. Thomas, British Virgin Isles (BVI) and the Bahamas. I got limited news on the boat but saw that the majority of the country is gripped in a cold spell. I'll spare the membership from pics of me peeling from too much sun. JP cross pics to come, though, in the pics of you thread.

I love cruises because you meet people from all over the world. My favorite? A woman from South Africa. Made me think of you, JoeD, every time she spoke as I have had limited contact with the accent prior to meeting her. Too cool. Never got a chance to ask about her tastes in music, but still...

Ok, a few pics to come once I unpack a bit. Until then, a big "happy birthday" to those friends that I missed. Know that I was thinking of you! HAAAAA!

Good morning peeps!

It's Monday morning, my kids are back at school and I feel a little lonely (crazy, I know lol)
They're just growing up way too fast for my liking. They started their first day at their new schoo. This is more of a preprimary than a play school so now the structure really begins. The teachers are very big on teaching them independance etc so they ask that we just drop them at the door, kiss them goodbye and then leave. No walking in with them, carrying their backpacks for them or even carrying the kid into school.. which is pretty much what I did at their old school lol. So this morning, we get to school, they grab their backpacks, barely notice I'm there waiting for my kiss and are clampering into the school all full of wonder and excitement.. Had to steal a kiss on their cheeks as they rushed past me lol.
Omg! I've turned into one of those mothers who cope less with new school changes than the children do lol.

Morning / day Metalheads

Thought I'd take a moment to catch up on some back-reading of the goings ons here...looks like things have been a little quiet around here.

Got the first week back to work under my belt and I couldn't be happier!!  There's something about getting back into the swing of things that brings a sense of security back to things.  A little something I hadn't shared with my friends here but I feel more comfortable doing so now is that on New Years Eve my Dad had surgery to remove one of his kidney's due to cancer.  It's been a battle for him and the family as this is just the latest in a series of "removals" he's had to go through because of the big "C"...but he is recovering fine, albeit slowly.  Unfortunately he picked up pneumonia while there and it's slowing things down a bit...reminds me of why I hate hospitals...go to one and your almost guaranteed to catch something!!

Anyway, we got about a foot of snow over last day and a half and now are expecting frigid temps...no snowman or angels for me yet!!!

Hope everyone's doing fine and am looking forward to a great year and some wonderful changes in the upcoming months!!!!  Take care all!!

Hey all....long time--no post...lol!!      Just haven't had a whole lotta things to say/talk about really...my day to day stuff is so predictably INANE that it just doesn't warrant sharing.     I haven't squired a whole lot of new music (apart from Queensryche's  "American Soldier"  and  Heaven & Hell's  "The Devil You Know"...both of which are brilliant)...and...well....I'm making this post (in part) out of sheer frustrated boredom.

For starters, to any/all who know me here,  Happy New Year/Decade to all of you!!!    And yes...this greeting goes to all of those here that I don't know of course (didn't wanna seem selective...though, my history here has proven that it doesn't necessarily HURT to be as such).     I hope this past holiday season was a pleasant one for all of you, whether you observe it or not.     God knows the start to winter has been quite kickin' to say the least...areas of the world not ordinarily renowned for seeing such bitter cold/snow are probably reeling right now, and for those of you who like orange juice;  given the shots I'd seen of various orange groves in Lakeland FL. recently, ya might wanna downgrade to quart containers....this bitter snap is gonna certainly affect the crop output.

Man...I can't feckin' WAIT for January 18th....this is when I start a new run package at work that'll break the monotony of what I've been doing for the past 5.5 months.     This kid doesn't tolerate routine very well (never did)...and what I do is just that....routine as a mutherfucker.     I'll be doing a slightly more varied package of bus routes, most of which have been recently refined and streamlined (which is meant to facilitate things considerably).     I'm SO done with the one I've been doing....I mean...literally...put a fork in this kid....juices should be clear....LOL!!!      I'm grateful I'm employed, don't get me wrong...but JEEEEZ-UZZZ.....sometimes even for all of my gratitude, there's just certain things I deal with that...well...I could do without.      Like people who insist on bringing their bicycles out and loading 'em on the bike racks on the front of all of our buses.    This is fine and all when the weather is relatively decent, and when you consider that most of this area is uphill climbs for all 4 points of the compass...it does stand to reason...

...but when it's some 20 degrees, WITH a wind chill....AND BLOWING SNOW!!!???     FFS...don't these asshats watch 'The Weather Channel!!???'  o_O     I don't even like having to WALK fast in elements such as these!!      I'm gonna ride a goddamn BICYCLE in it!???    Yeh....MIGHT happen...hold your breath...g'head...see if it does....

...at least it's quiet...the college kids are still home/abroad for the holidays for the most part...when they all come back is when my schedule changes and I get to see some different necks of the 'woods' for a little while....then, long about March or so, I'll be bitching about how burned out I am on it...LMAO!!!!

...vicious cycles boys 'n girls....watch out for 'em.....meanwhile...take care of yourselves....salud....

Ahhh my sister was telling me this morning (she lives in London) that parts of the UK have been colder than Moscow, and that this is the coldest winter the UK has had in 30 years. I hope you and your family are staying warm and safe!

(It always seems strange when I read something like this; it still being thursday evening here).

The last few days/weeks leading up to a big gig are always the most exciting, I hope the anticipation never exceeds the result- though it's AC/DC so I bet you'll have a great time Becks.

Our cat is quite vocally disgusted about the weather- I can't blame her, especially after a weather station 10 minutes down the road apparently recorded -18C (?!) last night making us slightly colder than Moscow. Currently I am watching the frost form on the inside of the window pane. Hope others out there are enjoying better weather!

Becks, from my young experience of putting some tape on all of a cat's feet, they freak out! How could they ever wear booties??

Those kitty booties look hilarious!  The cat doesn't look too impressed though.  I got an email photo of an extremely angry and wet looking cat, and the caption says something like "This cat is gonna f*ck somebody up".  I believed it!
