GREAT point, HB. I have seen it countless times!! The team that plays as a unit and works at the fundamentals is always victorious over the superstars. I have to laugh everytime I think of our glorious US basketball "dreamteam" that got smoked in the Olympics by a bunch of "nobody" teams a couple years ago!! HA!!!!! What a perfect example! It is amazing to see the team now. Lesson learned. Play together.

a "team" is also greater than the sum of its parts.  Good players, working together can defeat a group of the best players put on the field, playing as indidviduals.

I agree with you about everyone gets a medal, or not keeping score.  the kids know the score, and if we can teach them not to play to win, we teach them to play to lose.

on the victory celebrations, the CFL touchdown celebrations are geting realy stupid.  watching the recieving core sit down playing duck duck goose, who came up with this idea?
bring on the extra point team and move the hell on.

Very well said, Ron. Not too sure I can improve on that.
You see, I come from a time when we were taught team sport. There was no such thing as a trophy just for showing up and, if you were not good enough, you did not make the team. It did not matter what your parent thought or what some kiddie psychologigst said. If you were no good, you were no good and needed to find something else to do. Coaches taught us how to play together , to support one another. We were there to win and we knew that it would take all parts, working in unison, to achieve our objective not one guy doing it all while we admired him.

Of course there was the standout. The great player that would carry us through the tough times and gain the big yards or get the key hit when we needed it but other teams knew that as well and played to stop that particular player. At one time or another, I was actually that guy!!  Again, as a team, we could adjust to their folly and win the day. I will say this, in the entire time that I played sport, from school days right through adulthood, I never performed some stupid "victory dance" or acted out some moronic skit on the field of play. Never. Nor did any of my teammates. It was just not done. There is a certain dignity in being  a winner and moreso in being very good at what you do. I have never needed to remind anyone on the field of my ability by acting foolish. My play spoke quite loudly.

Talking about Adam 'Pacman" Jones Ron--he was suspended from TN  Titans --went to TNA wrestling --was signed to a 1 plus million   $  contract  & then was let go from there due to his big mouth  plus if ya ever saw his "in ring " skills or better yet-- lack  of  --all he did was stand & hold the ringpost up--heck I could even do that !!--then he had the nerve to back talk wrestlers from the old school--Kevin Nash--Sting --Jeff Jarrett--to name a few --the ones who paved the road for people like him--well all I can say is thank God he didn't last long there

Pardon the interruption...but I must let you know DF that I've got your back on this one...I don't want to upset Sue, considering I love her passion for the game (I wish more women would be more like Her!!!)...but I grew up despising the Cowboys (only 'cause they were so good)...but with players like T.O., if you're a true fan of the game, you can't help but loathe a player like him (and he by NO means is the only player I feel this strongly about)...if a person is a serious Cowboys fan, you have to really be concerned with the team acquiring players such as WR Williams (from Detroit) and Pac Man Jones (suspended last year, Titans)...what is Jerry Jones thinking??  These are players Al Davis (Raiders) usually pick up!!  Those are really bad T E A M players that are selfish and put themselves ahead of the the rest of the team...why do you think their former teams were 'happy' to let them go??  And what do they pass on to the younger players??

SueV --that's exactly what I was thinking --where fore art thou Tony Romeo--so what-- we added 1 extra letter to his last name --he sure does look good in his Dallas Cowboys uniform !! --& I agree if T.O. would just shut up for once & catch some passes--I think I could've caught more than him the past few games !!

For REAL!!  Watching that game yesterday w/o him playing made me want to hollar out "Oh, Tony ROMEO!  Tony ROMEO!  Where art thou Tony ROMEO?!"  ROFL

And it didn't help any w/ T.O yelling at team members & shit.  I'm thinking to myself, "Well, if you'd shut your trap for once, stop whining like a little BITCH,  & catch some damned PASSES today, we'd MAYBE be able to score more & possibly win the game!!!!"
I love T.O, but he was being a royal pain in the ass yesterday.  *sighs*

Man, this Cowboys game today is like watching a REALLY bad train wreck.  *sighs*  And now there's a THIRD interception by the Rams today.  I can't watch this anymore.  *turns off TV before I'm about to BREAK the dadgum thing*

*sighs*

It doesn't help that most of the Cowboys key players are out from injuries & stuff including my Tony Romo.  It's HOPELESS.  They'd be damn LUCKY if they make it to the play-offs this season.  I don't see it happening unless the Cowboys go undefeated the rest of the season.

HEY! WE ALL CAN'T BE WINNERS.
SOME WIN IT ALL AND SOME GO HALF WAY
SOME DON'T EVEN CONTEND.
BUT AS LONG AS WE HAVE A ROOTING INTEREST
ITS ALL GOOD FUN IN THE END
SOME COME OH SO CLOSE
THEN FALL JUST SHORT
THAT DOESN'T MAKE THEM A LOSER
THOUGH IT HURTS SO MUCH MORE

BUT TO MAKE THE HURT GO AWAY
IS WHY WE ARE ALL HERE
TO FORGET WHAT IS WRONG ESLEWHERE
IANS FRANTIC BASE LINES
SCOTTS THUMPING DRUMS
KK THICK FURIOUS RIFFS
GLENS BLISTERING SOLOS
AND OF COURSE THE PEIRCING VOICE OF THE METAL GOD

SO TURN THE HI FI HIGH
AND JUICE OUR SYSTEMS UP WITH THE BEAT OF EVERY KIND
GET LOST IN THE LAND OF THE METAL GODS
EVERYTHING WILL BE ALRIGHT AGAIN
AND IN AN HOUR OR SO WE CAN GO OUT AND TAKE ON THE WORLD

I WONT QUIT MY DAY JOB

Sadly, I am all cried out. There is no need to send me tissues. As for band aids, I have not yet caused myself physical injury, although it has occurred to me. HA!!!!!!! It is a very difficult day to be a Dodger fan.

Their pitching totally and utterly failed them. The very essence of Dodger legend was absent. For all the Dodgers have ever had, pitching was their greatest asset. The "claim to fame", as it were. Where did it go? How could a league-leading era just disappear?

Saddness. Despair. Destitution. I am an island.

ONE OF THE REGRET I HAVE IN LIFE IS NEVER LEARNING TO PLAY THE GUITAR. I TOOK SOME LESSONS, BUT DIDN'T TAKE IT TOO SERIOUS WHEN I WAS YOUNGER.  BASEBALL ALWAYS TOOK UP TOO MUCH TIME. NO REGRETS. IN COLLEGE IT WAS LIKE A FULL TIME JOB EXECPT TO WAS A BLAST. THE TRAVELING WITH TEAMMATE WAS GREAT.

I PLAY THE GUITAR VERY POORLY AND READ MUSIC VERY SLOWLY. I CAN BASICLLY PLAY LIVING AFTER MIDNIGHT AND BREAKING THE LAW VERY SLOPPILY.

I GET UPSET WITH MY SON SOMETIMES. I ALWAYS THOUGHT I'D PUSH HIM AT SPORTS. HE PLAYS AND I COACH BUT HE IS AVERAGE, WHICH IS FINE. HE DOESN'T HAVE THE GIFT THAT I HAD. WITH MUSIC THOUGH HE READS MUSCI BEAUTIFULLY. HE PLAYS THE GUITAR AND PIANO. PERFORMS IN SCHOOL WITH THE BAND AND SOLO, BUT HE HAS NO INTEREST IN IT. HE DOES IT BECAUSE HE HAS TO. HE JUST STARTED HIGH SCHOOL AND IT IS NO LONGER MANDITORY, AND HE HASN'T PLAYED SINCE JUNE.

MY OTHER REGRET IS NEVER PLAYING ICE HOCKEY.

Point well taken, Scorp. I love baseball. Played all my life up until a few years ago. As an adult ( in my late 20's early 30's) I played tournament softball with a state team in Cal. Traveled all around the country playing ball. I was on the field seven days a week! Tourneys every weekend and leagues during the week. I lived for it. Metal music has always been a passion. Fronted a couple bands in my youth and did the whole bar scene. This thing with the Project has really been a wonderful outlet for my music. MM and I enjoy playing together and we put out some decent material. I relate very well with what you are saying!

I GUESS ITS LIKE ANYTHING ELSE. WHEN YOU LOVE SOMETHING AND TALK ABOUT IT ALOT YOU GET TO LEARN IT.

MY WHOLE LIFE, HEAVY METAL AND BASEBALL HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THERE FOR ME. THOSE ARE TWO, PLACES I CAN GO TO ESCAPE THE STRESSES OF EVERYDAY LIFE. TALKING BASEBALL OR READING A BOOK, LISTENING TO OR TALKING ABOUT MUSIC WITH A COLD BEER AND SOME FRIENDS. OTHER THAN MY FAMILY THATS ALL I NEED.

I must say, I am thoroughly impressed, Scorp. WOW! I was not good enough to play on my college team. You have a wonderful knowledge of Dodger history! Very impressive, indeed.
I know the folks in Chicago have much to cry about, given that their Cubbies lost again, but they are used to it. The Dodgers have a winning organization and I really believed we were destined for the Series this year. It is very difficult to let go!!   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by scorpion01 from Wednesday, October 15, 2008 11:55:30 AM)

I'LL BE PULLING FOR THEM HARD ALSO. ORIGINATING IN BROOKLYN, THERE ARE STILL MANY DIE HARD DODGER FANS HERE.

MANY OF THE TROLLY CAR TRACKS STILL EXIST IN BROOKLYN WHICH IS WHERE THE DODGERS GOT THEIR NAME. PEOPLE USED TO DODGE IN FRONT OF THE TROLLY CARS TO CROSS THE STREETS. ONE OF THE SEVERAL NAMES THE DODGERS WENT BY WHEN IN BROOKLYN WAS THE TROLLY DODGERS BEFORE IT WAS SHORTENED TO JUST THE DODGERS. THEY WERE ALSO CALLED THE BRIDES GROOMS FOR A FEW YEARS.

WE STILL HAVE JACKIE ROBINSON PARKWAY, CARL ERSKINE STREET, GIL HODGES BRIDGE. THE BROOKLYN CYCLONES MASCOTTE ARE TWO BIRDS CALLED SANDY AND PEEWEE.

THE METS NEW STADIUM NEXT YEAR WILL LOOK SIMILAR TO EBBITS FIELS AND WILL FEATURE A JACKIE ROBINSON ROTUNDA.

I'M A HUGE GIL HODGES FAN I PLAYED FOR AND NOW MANAGE 2 BASEBALL TEAMS AT GIL HODGES LITTLE LEAGUE. WE PLAY AT GIL HODGES STADIUM.

WE STILL SEE MANY OF THE PLAYERS AND WIVES FROM THE DODGERS AT THE CYCLONES GAMES.
MY SON LAST YEAR GOT TO GO ON THE FIELS IN HIS UNIFORM FOR THE NATIONAL ANTHEM WITH JOHNNY PODRES BEFORE HE PASSED AWAY AND JOAN HODGES.

WE MET CARL ERSKINE A FEW MONTHS BACK WHEN THE HAD A BOBBLE HEAD NIGHT FOR HIM.

I FIRMLY BELIEVE GIL HODGES SHOULD BE ELECTED TO THE HALL OF FAME. I'D LOVE TO DISCUSS IT FURTHER WITH ANYONE WILLING TO HAVE THE CONVERSATION.  HIS ACCOMPLISHMENTS ARE TREMENDOUS. MOST POEPLE LOOK ARE THE RAW NUMBERS AND DON'T APPRECIATE  HOW GREAT HE WAS.

I ALSO PLAYED BASEBALL AT HIGHLEVELS WHEN I WAY YOUNGER. WON THE NATIONAL BABE RUTH WORLD SETRES IN 1977, PLAYED DIVISION 1 COLLEGE BALL AGAINST MAY TO BE PROFESSIONAL PLAYERS. I ACTUYALLY HAVE OUR ANNUAL ALUMNI GAME THIS WEEKEND.

ANYWAY GOOD LUCK TONIGHT. AND BESIDES JOE TORRE WAS BORN IN BROOKLYN
[Deep Freeze] Wednesday, October 15, 2008 11:27:39 AM

Very good point, Scorp. My problem is, I am a die-hard Dodger fan. I grew up in LA and wanted to play for them when I was a kid....you know? I went to college in LA and planned on being a professional baseball player. My grandmother always wanted me to be a Dodger. Our whole family bleeds Dodger Blue. It is tremendously difficult to watch them lose this year after all that went SO right when they got Manny and turned things around. The HUGE mistake that was Andruw Jones, the injuries to key players. I really believed that this was the year, you know?

I will be in front of my TV tonight. Hoping. Praying. Wearing my Dodger jersey and begging  the baseball gods to please, PLEASE let us back in it. It is hard to accept defeat, even when you can smell it.

AFTER LAST NIGHT I REALLY BELIEVE IT DOESN'T MATTER WHO WINS THE NATIONAL LEAGUE. THE RAYS DON'T KNOW THEY WERE INVITED TO THE PARTY JUST TO FILL A SPOT.  THEY ARE YOUNG, HUNGRY AND TALANTED FROM TOP TO BOTTOM.

I THINK MANY OF US WOULD HAVE LOVED TO SEE TORRE AND MANNY AS WELL AS NOMAR AND LOWE AND MATTINGLY GO IN AND BEAT BOSTON IN THE WORLD SERIES. ESPECIALLY THE TV NETWORKS. BIG RATINGS!

I HAVE A ROOTING INTEREST IN THE RAYS IN GETTING TO KNOW SCOTT KAZMIR WHEN HE PLAYED HER IN BROOKLYN FOR THE CYCLONES (MINOR LEAGUE TEAM FOR THE METS) BUT I DIDN'T EXPECT THEN TO GO THIS FAR.

Well, tonight is it as far as the Dodgers are concerned. They are in a "win or go home" position from this point. The youth factor is clearly showing. I will be rooting hard for them, but it is obviously time for a bit of "divine intervention".

A truly enjoyable game! Wonderfully played by the Dodgers in all categories! It appears that they had finally had enough of being pushed around by Philadelphia and pushed back...hard. Clearly, the Phillies did not like a dose of their own medicine. Did you guys see the "Flyin Hawaiian" meltdown at the plate when Kuroda took a shot at his melon? HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And then, of course, there's Manny being Manny. Hitting the crap out of a ball and intimidating all. HAHAHAA!! Oh where is Tim? I simply must thank him for the use of the Red Sox star! And better yet, IF the Dodgers can get into the World Series and manage to get those same Sox, Boston will be in the position of paying Ramirez to play against  them!!!!! Oh the horror!!! (or is it horrah??) .  The 'Chowds worse nightmare returns to do them in and they have to pay for the privilage?!??!?!?? HAHAHAHAA!!

Sad day in Lana land
lost $ on the Cowboys
lost more $ on the Redskins
lost even more $ on my Phillies
the only Pennsylvania team that won yesterday was the Eagles & I didn't bet any $ on them because I'm just not a fan of theirs--Damn !!!
Must now check to see if Penn State played & how they did

WOW, what a game!  How exciting.  First the cards are unlucky by that overtime kick after the timeout, then, they are sooo lucky with that blocked punt, turning it into a TD.

I need to keep track of this:
Packers 3-3 Jets 3-2

You know, I can't either. Just thinking that in the last round of turnovers. What is it? The fact that they look like the Lions with the exception that they often win? The fact that I am old enough to remember them being called "America's team?" The fact that their cheerleaders had a reality show?

No matter. Don't like 'em. Go Cards.
