I always wondered what it was like to cross the international date line.... That's gotta be the worst thing to adjust to, either losing a day or gaining one...  12 hours difference was enough for me..

The first time I flew from Chicago to LAX, I thought that was tough.  It seemed like I landed at the same time I took off...that was until I flew to Okinawa Japan (with stops in Hawii and Guam en route), flying through the International Date Line...I lost a day (or the rest of it and the start of the next)...on the way back, it's like time traveling backwards, with another stop in Hawii then to Anchorage Alaska then down to LAX again, I think I landed 2 hours before I actually took off!!!

Panqueques are not the same as a tortilla mexicana. Panqueques are crepes. Yes, much thinner and usually sweet. Depends on what you put in it, though.

Your "tortilla de papa" is actually known as "tortilla española" and you can get them here in the US as well as México. You have to look for it, though. As the name indicates, it originated in Spain and was brought over by the conquistadores. They never became as popular in México simply due to the indigenous people who had been making their own "tortillas de maíz" for years. That is why they are still the most common. Tortillas de harina (flour) is only a relatively new development when compared to those made from maíz (corn). Tortilla española even pre-dates it in México. However, there were simply not the proper conditions for growing papas as easily as corn. Also explains why tortilla española is far more popular in South America and a number of countries in Central America.

It's pretty much 2 here. It get hot and humid for summer whilst the rest of the year is characterised by mild warmth. We have a rainy / storm season from oct - feb, although each year is different. we had a few big storms in nov, but not much since.
