Yep, I hate to say this and I swore I never would but here goes (lol) Back in my day, we had discipline. You wouldn't dare speak to a teacher, parent or adult the way some of these ungrateful brats do. I'm still pretty strict on the discipline/respect thing. My children know how far to push and what consequences happen when they go too far. And I don't have to beat it into them. Discipline takes work from both sides and these days some parents just don't give a damn. Shouldn't be breeding because that is just what they are doing. Pumping out kids and then expecting teachers to deal with them but don't  you dare discipline my little so and so. Bull shit. We need discipline and responsibility back.

OMG! I feel so old and cranky after spewing that out lol.

Yeah little kids can be so cool eh Joe. My dad has been a high school teacher for over 40 years so has seen how awful teenagers have become - a lot of it relatively recently too! It's sad really.

I've got a friend who teaches teens and she started off lovingh her job. She went from junior school upwards and she hates the teens. She says they've become disrespectful, sexually harras her and can get intimidating. She says she'd teach little ones anyday.

The toddlers/ under 6 year olds are cool. Whenever I go to pick my two up from school they all stampede me. I have no idea why but almosst every kid at the school wants to come home with me, they all insist on showing me their new tricks on the jungle gym etc. I dig kids but I don't think I'd be able to teach them. I have some days where I have up to 3 extra at a time at home because when one of mine asks to bring a friend for a play date, there's normally another two who want to come with. Lol. I love seeing how their imaginations develop. This parenting thing has been a very nice journey for me and I'm keen to see what type of adults they will turn into one day.

They love music, are funny as can be and are pretty much a joy in my life.

Sounds like you had a good day Joe, and a long one. Got to admire teachers. The good ones are professional kid wranglers. They know how just a glance in a noisy direction will result in silence and good bahavior. The little ones up to fifth grade are easy, it's the tweens and teens that are pains. lol My sister is a teacher and refuses to teach grades above level 5. lol

Hi gang!

Just got back from listening to a friend's gig. Was a nice chilled laid back semi acousstic set. Very cool. Baby sitter was a  no go so we had to take the kids with. They were fine as long as they were stuffing their little faces with food but when that finished and they'd downed all their soda then they were not interested at all  lol. Zoey was dancing a bit but got tired so we called it a night and came home. I must say that I've just heard the most stunning local version of 'Wish You Were Here' They just had two electric guitars, toned down and vocals.. It was hauntingly beautiful. Highlight of a very cool night musically.

I also survived a 3 hour trip to the fire station with the kids. I volunteered my time to help out with the field trip and I tell you, I have a whole new respect for teachers. I was pooped after 3 hours with help.. how they do it all day for 5 days a week I have no idea! lol

Enjoying a nice cup of tea and then a good night sleep lol.

Nope, neither. I live outside the city limits (meaning across the street). No natural gas, no city water (actually thankful for that...not as expensive with a well), have to pay the trash collectors directly. I live about two minutes from the firehouse but still have to pay a "rural" fee to have them come out to try to put out a fire. Not that they could ever do so. Can't make it up my drive and no hydrant.

Ahhhh...you'll have to move to the "things that are making you super-happy" thread for the full answer to that one. Still waiting on the guy is the short version. Got a backup as well but the first guy was one of those "means what he says, says what he means" sort of fellow. I think he and I and his wife are the only three people on this planet who refuse to get cellphones. Oh, except for Tim Robbins, I hear.

Speaking of super-happy, congrats on the NHL win. I READ about that online. While I pay a small fortune each month for satellite, see if I can find a channel to offer the games (or even ANNOUNCE the winners) without paying extra. I do have three channels playing "The Nanny," though. So I have that to fall back on.

Hey, let's trade....kids for bees in a wall! LOL!! On second thought, my problem is certainly much cheaper. I can always go into the honey business, can't sell the kids...legally, at least.

Still no beekeeper but hopefully the storms are keeping them from building up too much honey in that damn wall. I swear, I DID move to "disaster-trailer-landia." Storms, bees, earthquakes. Now all I need is a hippo to break loose from a zoo and head my direction.   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Darth_Painkiller_0870 from Monday, May 24, 2010 7:37:22 PM)

Friends...

Words cannot convey how deeply I've been touched by your posts, PM's and e-mails.  This has been a tough time for my family as my dad was the cornerstone of our family.  Sunday is the memorial and then we'll all move forward.  Thank you all for your kindness and support as it has helped to ease the pain.  You are all class acts and as true a friend as one can can be on a public forum.  It's been widely recognized that Judas Priest fans are the most loyal and greatest fans there are, this is yet another time that you have proved it.  Thanks to all!!

Your Metal brother, Ron.

Almost weekend time!!! Woo hoo!!! Busy one for us! Show on Friday and then not one but TWO "pool parties" to attend!! HA!!!!!!!!!! Ah! Popularity! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!!!!! Appears that the weather will not be cooperating, however. It's so odd that we are this cool in mid-May! We should be well into the 90's at this time of year yet we are expecting mid 70's for the weekend!! Global Warming, indeed!

Anyhoo, bee infestations notwithstanding, I trust you all will have a great weekend. Carry on.

Your philanthropy is inspiring, joe. Its good to try to give back and support whenever and however you can. We are playing a benefit in July. No pay. We are doing it as our way of supporting as well. The feeling of trying to help is payment enough, no?

As I menitioned a couple days ago, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF! See your doctor regularly. Get the proper exams. Most importantly, DO WHAT YOUR DOCTOR TELLS YOU!!  That is something I simply cannot wrap my my around...people that ignore doctor's orders!! Our guitar player and drummer are both like this. They are told about certain health issues and figure they just won't go back to that doctor! ....?????!?!?!!??!?  *YEEEESH*

I know it can be difficult to do what you need to do, especially if the problem is not immediate or it is only potential. I ask ALL of you to please, please look after your health. Cherish it. Protect it. Above all, MONITOR it!

I also believe that everyone of us have had dealings with this demon. Thankfully she is alive but my mother had ovarian cancer and lost everything, womb, ovaries and on hormone therapy for life. Craig's Aunt had breast cancer when she was in her 70's. My mother's husband's first wife died horribly of breast cancer that went wild in her body. She was the most loving woman and not once did I hear her complain or feel sorry for herself. She just got on with the bit of life she had left. A good family friend lost his father to liver cancer, my aunt to a brain tumor, another aunt to breast cancer and a good friend's father had colon cancer and now has to poop into a bag for the rest of his life but he's sitll alive and that counts. My mother in law had leukemia but survived it.

I put all my backing behind cancer research foundations. In cycling season, I ride for cancer research foundations and I will never give up hope of this one day being a battle that nobody has to go through.

Well said, joe. It is a most insidious and horrible disease. I believe nearly everyone has been affected by it either directly or indirectly. It lurks in the shadows. It infests without regard to race, age, social status, gender nor decency. It infects and it steals. It destroys and it is oh so pervasive. I know ALL too well the loss of someone close to this foul demon. I may not live to see it eradicated but it is my sincere wish that , someday, it is.

I would like to say how very PROUD I am of us, the regulars. As always, our bond is true. Our love for one another is strong and we pull together and we stand in solidarity as friends. THIS is what its all about. This is what makes this Board what it is. We are one. We are family. There's nothing more important and nothing so special. Well done, gang. Well done, indeed!

Ron, I do not know you but I can't help but to be saddened by your post.
Words won't help so all I can say is be strong, time heals (somewhat).
Take solace in the fact that you had a relationship with your father. I've
never even seen a picture of mine. I was thinking of him yesterday
strangely enough. I was trying to figure out how old he would be if he's
still alive. He would be 86. Dealing with this is something time can't heal.
You deal with it regularly because you're always wondering. Be glad you
had a father in your life. Take care man.

Ron,  I am so sorry to hear that your Dad passed. He was blessed with a great son who loved him  dearly and I'm sure you being there for him in his last moments must have made him feel safe and secure enough to let go. No words can ease your pain but know that your family here grieve with you and are here for you.

Much love and big hugs to you xxx.

Yellow has become a symbol of beating cancer for me. One day this disease will be eradicated.. We have lost far too many to this demon!
