Mine seems to be a different model - there's a pic in my profile. They're saying now that I can't bring a pickguard to the VIP experience. Ugh, bastards. Thanks anyway.

Anyone know where I can get a pickguard for a Gibson Flying V?
[alecs56] Thursday, August 21, 2008 7:02:29 PM
I play a strat and a peavy ( nitro 3 ) though a hopped up Ampeg V7 with crybay wah,delay,stereo chours, phase shifter,and somtimes a distortion pedal.

Black, 86 Fender Strat (Japanese) two EMGs one dbl. hum, and single hum. Have never seen another like this one. Thru Marshall JMC 800(half-stack) with a Boss Metal Zone.

Well, with care booklet in hand, I guess it doesn't really use the word "smoke." To quote:

"A rapid change in temperature or humidity can result in small cracks in the finish known as 'finish checking' ... If a bright bluish FOG appears on the top, close the case immediately and let it warm up for a few minutes." But, bright blue fog?! Yeah, I would assume that would be a bad thing.

Damn! Never heard of the smoke before!! I knew of the expansion rate from taking my guitars on airlines before, but mostly for the neck, not the body.    Try a camera shop, they will have the lithium batteries in the 9 volt. that will give the closet thing to having the AC adaptor.
Lihium would really be the route to go for everyone, but they cost so much in comparison.   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by guidogodoy from Saturday, August 16, 2008 11:35:08 PM)

Still on the battery. A regular, at that. None of those supercharged things (that I did look for but couldn't find around here).

Sounds great all the same. Just tone heaven this afternoon. Even took the time to read the instructions as to how to care for this fine instrument today. Just out of curiousity. LOVED the advice from Gibson Custom as to watch for "blue smoke" coming off the guitar if you move it from extreme cold to hot. Close the case immediately! Wood expanding too fast for the paint!

Speaking of tone, my friend. Sitting here with the SG in my lap + DS-1 + Vox Valvetronix = PARADISE!!! DAMN, this sounds good!

Still can't really figure out what the Keeley mod is doing on the DS-1, btw.

If the tone has stuck to you like that, try a little rubbing alcohol!!!lol!  If you liked the tone that much, that`s your amp. All this time later and you still think about it, sounds like that your choice is made. The MG`s have a good thick tone, very tube like. get it and go for it!! When you need to upgrade, you`ll know what you`re expectations are from an amp. The Line6 stuff is good also, but I think I would go for the Marshall, since it`s "stuck to you" and all!!

i played through combo version when i was at guitar centre purchasing my RR3 back in march and the tone still sticks to me lol. I'm hopefully getting a new amp next april for my birthday but im not quite 100% sure on what i want to get. its either the Line 6 Spider III 75, or that Marshall half stack.
[TIMBONI] Friday, August 15, 2008 9:07:34 PM

The MG series is solid state, popular line,a little noisy(hiss) when cranked, but they are a good amp for the practicing musician. I`d take one!!

i just looked on guitarcentre.com and they dont have it anymore and yes it was a solid state.

[TIMBONI] Monday, August 11, 2008 12:15:55 AM
That is good if it's tube.  I got lucky.  When I was in the market, I found a music store clerk who needed the cash and let his mid '70s 50 watt half stack go for $350.  He locked the store up and we went to his house.  Cash and carry of course, but that amp kicked ass.  I used to run it in stereo with my Carvin 100 watt through my Boss ME-5.  Tough set up, but it was worth it.  I was the only guitartist, but it sounded  like there was two of us because the sounds were so different.

You`re probably checking out a solid state model, they can be had fairly cheap. A true tube amp will set you back a couple of mortgages!!
Look at Krank, they have two mini combo`s that can be had in half stack configurations, their newest one has an expanded EQ section, but they are still not cheap!!

i'm looking at getting a new amp sometime next spring and im thinking about getting either a 75 watt line 6 spider 3 or maybe a cheap marshall half stack but im not sure.
[guitardude] Thursday, August 07, 2008 5:54:58 PM
I have had the older Boss OD-1 and the DS-1 in the past and loved them. And thanks to a very generous fellow board member here,I have the DS-1 again.  Been a Boss guy for a long time, not that I think they are superior, but they are readily available and consistently good.  I use my DS-1 thru my son`s Fender G-Dec Jr. amp ,and combined with the internal overdrive in the 80`s British mode,it`s a great tone for all era`s of metal.   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Judas Deth from Thursday, August 07, 2008 3:20:45 PM)

i use a small peavey combo amp and i use a Boss Super Overdrive SD-1 in series with a Boss Distortion DS-1 on the clean channel and it sounds pretty good its probably the best tone i can get at the moment. My amp doesn't have a built-in overdrive or distortion.

I used Carvin exclusively back in '87-'88.  They were an awsome company with great equipment and an even greater amount of integrity and commitment to quality.  I loved their speaker cabinets.  At the time, they were the only affordable option for fully enclosed cabs with big speakers ( 4x12 ).  The bass knock out of those were incredible.

S.Leads
Didn`t you post a pic of your stuff once,I seem to recall seeing one and you mentioned how great the V3 is far Vintage Priest!
I love Carvin`s stuff, had a little bad luck with an order from them a while back, but wasn`t their fault, more of a UPS thing.
I know the vintage 30`s are a good speaker,I had  the Carvin British series in my Marshall cabs, put them in in the late 90`s.  My favorite Celestion is a discontinued model... the Cloth Edge Sidewinders, used another guys cabs once and he had these in there ...my god I have never heard a speaker breathe like that, man it was thick with a truly amazing top end.
The Legacy has a very glassy clean tone, good for old Van Halen stuff.

guitar dude. The Roland is quite good. I spent years looking for a good clean channel and something that I could scream the hell out of for a lead channel. I love the hell out of my Carvin Legacy and V3 amp heads running through Vintage 30 speakers. The Legacy is my main rig but the V3 is better for really dirty harsh nue metal. When I play live, sound guys love me. My setup cuts through the mix, maintains low end and is very easy for them to work with.
[Phantom A6] Thursday, July 31, 2008 1:54:02 PM
Correct. And I like to "surprised" the clean channel with
a Overdrive and/or a Distortion Pedal.
The combination of my Boss OD-1 Overdrive or my OD-2 Turbo Overdrive and my Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal Distortion Pedals is awesome.
[guitardude] Tuesday, July 29, 2008 1:41:41 PM
That Roland is an awesome amp,it is the benchmark to which all clean sounds are judged!! many artist use these for their clean tones, and when driven, sound nice and chunky!!

With the legendary OD-1 Overdrive and CE-2 Chorus
in. Today I was on ebay. A DigiTech Distortion, the
"Hod Head" was mine. Next week a heavy metal thunder
blown through my rooms.

I just ordered the Crate Profiler 5 practice amp.  For $100 I couldn't resist and it comes with recording software.  I'm sure it's not top of the line, but Crate usually makes decent amps and for a C-note how can you go wrong.

I first noticed them on some BC Rich Warlocks at Guitar Center a few months back. I looked at it,but had no desire to play it. Just looked to damn weird!! I ask a salesmen about it,and that~s where I got the info I posted on it. maybe, there is something to these things, dunno, but I don`t think I`ll be trying one anytime soon, unless KK offers me a chance when they come to Dallas!!   Yea,as if!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is the Floyd Rose Speedloader bridge. The strings are extremely close to in tune on installation, and reportedly string life isn't much of a problem. The system was introduced about a year ago, and has yet to meet wide public acceptance. Some manufacturers produced a few guitars with that system, but most consumers shied away from them due to the fact they did not have tuners installed, and "looked really funny."

You mean the new white one, he had alot of it retooled by his guitar tech because He did not the way it was. Beautiful guitar, but Vol control on back? Just Stupid design. He fixed it. As for the rest, your too tech for me, talk about engines and I know what you speak of, guitars, not so much. But I sure he had in redesigned to fit his preferences.

Moved here for the proper thread for this response to the KK guitar in the "Sinfully Delicious" thread.
Regarding the new Double ball end strings that KK is using on his new White V.
Very cool, but there  are  things that can go wrong with those. If a string stretches to far,it must be replaced, rather than re-tuned,as there is not enough play left in the string to stretch it out properly.  The tuners on the tremelo bridge are  just like on a reguler tremelo, they`re fine tuners and do not have enough room for a complete retune. Now ,that being said, they are particularly reliable, but just not perfect. But if KK has faith in them, who am I to question  our Metal God!!
