You KNOW I was kidding about all my comments with you tonight. I, too, think that the Detroit players should have done the right thing and shown up. Like I said with my first post, all I was going to say on the subject. They were supposedly voted in by the fans (I still do have my doubts as to the veracity of the "fan count") and they should have gone save for, as you say, extreme circumstances. Still, I defend Detroit to the death! You probably have not been to my city but I've actually been to yours as a kid (I remember it as being very nice, btw). Spent about a month in Ottawa, as well. My pop had a time-share near Sault St. Marie, MI that we traded off one year for Ottawa and travelled around a bit. Winter, to boot. To us, it was warmer. The upper ( as we call the Upper Peninsula of MI) picks up lake-effect wind and snow. Especially around the Mackinac isle area of MI. I believe it is actually north of you, in fact (too lazy to find a map, IOW...could be wrong).
Like I would argue about a Pittsburgh fan, you are preaching to the choir when you talk about hockey. I grew up in a suburb of Detroit (Grosse Pointe) where we sit 15 minutes drive out of Canada. We get all the Ontario stations on both tv and radio. CBC to watch hockey was a no-brainer and also what keeps my tagline here. Bought most of my beer from a brewer's retail and ran it home through the tunnel (higher alcohol than the watered-down version of the states). Hockey is sacrilege here in the south, IMO. Water and oil. Don't go together.
Like you said, it is a RELIGION to most on the Canadian side of Michigan as well. Believe it or not. College and Pro. Biggest game in college is University of Michigan vs. Michigan State. They set up the rink in the football field and there is standing room only. Especially when it is in "the Big House" (U of M...100,000+ stadium). I argue that most in Canada have NO idea how important this game is to us.
I could have cited almost all the numbers about the Wings by heart but I wasn't kidding about wanting to see your pic of the cup. Like you, I would have KILLED to see it up close and personal (says the guy with a Molson Ice in hand! LOL!).

No, it isn't just you. I actually often think that in a lot of major sports. Hockey just seems to be one of many.
Then again, I am openly prejudiced. I loathe Anaheim (and my father is a traitor for supporting them...turncoat!). Here my brother goes and moves to Toronto. Goes to Cali with a freakin' Leaf's hat on?! He is dead to me as well! The Red Wings have won the most Stanley Cup championships (11)[1] of any NHL franchise based in the United States, and are third overall in total NHL championships, behind the Montreal Canadiens (24) and Toronto Maple Leafs (13). They currently play home games in the 20,066 capacity Joe Louis Arena after having spent over 40 years playing in Olympia Stadium.
From 1933–34 to 1965–66, the Red Wings only missed the playoffs four times. NEW YORK CAN ABSOLUTELY SUPPORT TWO TEAMS. THE PROBLEM IS THE ARENA IS HORRIBLE, DIFFICULT TO GET TO AND I THINK THEY NEED TO MOVE GAME START TIME TO 7:30.
AS FOR TAVARES. WE ISLANDER FANS ARE ALL HOPING THAT WE PLAY HARD, THE YOUNG PLAYERS GROW AND GET GOOD EXPERIENSE AND WE GET THE # 1 PICK. HOPEFULLY TAVARAS WILL SEE THAT THE YOUNG ISLANDERS ARE HEADED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. I CAN DREAM FOR NOW ANYWAY. I JUST HOPE IT DOESN'T BECOME A NIGHT MARE.
HEY THAT REMINDED ME OF A GREAT SONG. "DOWN PAYMENT BLUES BY AC/DC: SHE'S LIVING OUT HER WET DREAM, I LIVING IN A NIGHTMARE, SITTING IN MY CADALLAC, BUT I CAN'T AFFORD THE GASOLINE. THEY DO NEED A NEW ARENA THOUGH. THE CORRODORES ANR VERY NARROW. IT TKAKE 20 MINUTES TO GO TO THE BATHROOM AND YOU MISS MUCH OF THE GAME. EVEN BETWEEN PERIODS. FORGET ABOUT WAITING ON LINE FOR FOOD.
LETS GO ISLANDERS
WITH OKPOSO, COMEAU, CAMPLOI, DIPETRO, BAILEY, GERVAIS, TAMBOLLINI, I HOPE THEY WILL BE VERY COMPETITIVE IN THE NEAR FUTURE. ISLANDERS,YOU SEEM TO BE A GOOD HOCKEY FAN...BUT AT LEAST 6 TEAMS TO START WITH,EITHER HAVE TO BE FOLDED AND/OR THREE OF THEM MOVED TO CANADA....THERE REALLY IS NO OTHER ALTERNATIVE AND THAT 'COMMISH' WILL NOT FACE FACTS....GRETZKY FOR THE NEXT COMMISIONER...LIKE HIM OR NOT,HE KNOW'S WHAT WOULD BE GOOD FOR THE GAME,AND ISN'T THAT WHAT'S MOST IMPORTANT?...I BELIEVE IT IS.

THEY NEED THAT BAD.
I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'D DO. I DON'T KNOW IF I COULD EVER ROOT FOR THE RANGERS WITH PASSION AFTER HATING THEM FOR SO MANY YEARS. I GREW UP WITH TO THOUGHT THAT "RANGERS FANS SHOULD HAVE FORKS STUCK IN THERE EYES. JUST KIDDING! THAT ISN'T SERVERE ENOUGH." OF COURSE IT WAS ALL IN JEST, BUT THATS THE WAY IT IS BETWEEN RANGER AND ISLANDERS FANS. I STRONGLY BELIEVE IT IS THE BEST RIVALRY IN ALL OF SPORTS.
MAPLE - I DISAGREE ABOUT THERE BEING TOO MANY TEAMS. WITH PLAYERS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD I THINK THE NHL CAN SUPPORT THE TEAMS.
I DO AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT THE SHOOT OUT. I'D RATHER SEE A 10 MINUTE OVERTIME, GET RID OF THE SHOOTOUT AND IF THE GAME ENDS IN A TIE, SO BE IT. AFTER 70 MINUTES THEY PLAYED EACHOTHER EVENLY, BOTH GET A POINT.
