Wow... Wow... Wow... Long time, no talk... I don't know where to start.. haha

Recently moved to Texas in July with my (now) 10 month old son and my fiance. "Middle of no-where", Texas, that is. Trying to get everything situated out there, still... Then realized I haven't been on here in ages! But then I noticed how little activity has actually happened on the noticeboard as of late, as well.. I blame Facebook, Twitter, etc. etc. etc.

I'll try to post more on here, but don't hold your breath to long... I work some funky ass hours....

This will be my last post on this. I found a pic that is better than the description.

The Rangos Omnimax Theater, a four-story, state-of-the-art IMAX® dome theater, is one of only 50 theaters of its kind in North America. It's the biggest screen, and the only dome screen, in the Pittsburgh region. You’ll be in the center of the action!         ...description  found

Went to the "Carnegie Science Center" in Pittsburgh yesterday. The place was much cooler than I anticipated. One of the highlights for me was the "Imax" movie theatre. Watched somthing about a trek of a polar bear and her two cubs. Got bored with that pretty quick but the overall experience was pretty intense. You're sitting in reclined seats in a giant dome theatre. The entire dome is the screen. You focus on the center but so much more is going on. You look above, to the sides, and down to see everything. The sound system booms and some scenes you actually feel as though you are there. I had the sensation of riding in a helicopter over the artic near icebergs and cliffs and you could feel the pull on your body as it backed away or that feeling in your belly as it tilted forward. I have to go back when somethinggood is playing there. It was too cool.

Those prices seem totally absurd to me. I don't know what your tax rates are, but here about 1/3 of your income (depending how much you earn, it's on a scale) goes to tax (PAYE system so it's money you never see). It ensures that our public health system is funded, and while it has it's problems (long waiting lists in some areas) I'm glad that I didn't have to fork out anything for Craigs surgery last year, or for my pre and postnatal care, and my c-section (from figures I've seen that would be nearly a years wages for some people in the US). Ada sees the doctor for free  (meaning fully funded) until she's 6, her vaccinations that are on the schedule are funded and her dental care until she is 18 is funded. I have never had to pay for a prescription for her yet (so many nappy rash creams, argh lol). I don't understand why the USA, who see's itself as the bastion of all that is good in the world (as flawed as that view may be), cannot provide something similar for it's people??? I don't like political talk either, cos it can step on so many toes, but man that all seems so fucked up to me.

Not to get too much into politics (never a discussion I openly embraced on this site), you have both arguments pretty-well laid out right below. Our healthcare system is absolutely absurd. Affordable? HA! Good example is what I just experienced. I have a local hospital two blocks away. I get health insurance as part of my job. However, the local hospital just flipped to another insurance company meaning that they no longer accept my insurance. "Out of Network" prices mean that I pay 40% vs. the insurance paying 60%. That is on TOP of basic co-pays. In any calendar year, whether a hospital or doctor accepts my insurance or not, I have an immediate base doctor copay of $450 + $1500 = $2000. That is out of pocket expense. Now, a procedure or any exam easily surpasses that in the USA. So, I am also forced to pay 40% ON TOP of the $2000. A procedure that costs $7000 - easy to rack that up with one day in a hospital - and you can do the math. If I travel to a hospital that now does take my insurance, I still have to pay the $2000 per calendar year + 10% for an "in network" procedure. Still, $2700. That does not include visits to a regular doc (about $30 per visit copay) or a specialist ($45 copay). Of course, a doc usually wants to see you both before and after any sickness or procedure so there is more $ as a doc usually refers you to a specialist for anything they can't handle. $30 for the regular doc to refer you to a specialist (who wants to see you both before and after) + meds and you get the picture.

Healthcare is a broken system in the USA and one if not THE #1 way people go into deep debt. Break an arm WITHOUT insurance? Good luck. Most lose an entire paycheck + WITH insurance.

Oh yes. All (perhaps save for Politicians) all have "healthcare insurance" taken out of their paycheck every month as well. I don't even see that $ and it is not considered a tax. It is a deduction from gross salary. Taxes are quite another thing. After all, the country runs the biggest debt in the world and government spending is out of control. Someone would have to pay for healthcare for those who are too poor, don't qualify or can't get health insurance through their jobs for one reason or another. Thus, greater insight on both Bud and Guitardude's comments.

Screw the 2 party system! Both sides have their heads up their asses.

Fuck`em both is the best analogy. The Obmamacare bill is outrageous and really isn`t anymore affordable than what has been in place .Except for the poor , maybe it`s better. But he`s doing his best to make us all poor. His agenda against this country becomes more apparent everyday.
Republicans support big business because they put people to work. Dem`s just want us all to depend on them for everything. Of course you are right about funding and supporting wars. Just part of their conflicting ideals. Save money and defend our country, not everyone else`s!
[Budred] Thursday, October 03, 2013 2:55:55 AM

Republicans don't want anything that helps people that can't help themselves. If you are a billion dollar corporation they will give whatever you need (for political contributions of course). Democrats on the other hand (even though still accepting contributions from billionaire corporations)(for favors) try to help the poor in this country also. This is one reason for our class wars and why the two sides can't get along. Republicans will spend hundreds of billions on unnecessary wars but do not want to help anyone with healthcare. It's an entitlement.

The shutdown isn't really a shutdown. The government is still functioning they just won't fund anything deemed non essential. I'm not completely convinced that's a bad thing. No matter who's side you're on the spending has to be cut. That's why these idiots have to work together. We need compromise from both sides. Neither side can have everything their way but neither side will budge. How can a citizen support this kind of government? Fuck em' both!

[Becks] Thursday, October 03, 2013 1:30:40 AM
Why don't they want it? I thought better access to affordable health care would be a good thing, like most other countries have.

Democrats and Republicans (our only two main political parties) disagree about Obama's new health plan: Republicans don't want it and Obama won't negotiate.
