Watching the video you can tell he was haulin' ass. Can't tell the speed but it looked like the cars behind the engine were coming off the tracks before the engine itself. Scary stuff.

I've been on that train. It picks up one of the main pilgrimage routes (The "Camino de Santiago") to Santiago de Compostela when it turns northwest. All very sad as I saw that this is is the actual time to pay a visit to ol' St. James.

I heard the speed limit at that corner was about 50-55mph. Would be interesting to know how fast the driver was actually going. Apparently the train was running late too.

At least the crash was #1 (driver detained) on the BBC Online today. "Going at appx. double the speed?" Indeed, absolutely insane if it proves to be true.

That didn't rank that highly in the news here, Guido. That crash was insane, it was a top story here and the CCTV footage is horrible.
