Same problem with St. Clair. VERY shallow. I have seen 6 foot swells pick up in a second. At on point, we were in Canada with a group from the Power Squadron. We were all trying to cross in a line for safety reasons but, as you say, when you are in the middle and can't see land in any direction, well, we were a bit on the nervous side. Whole group turned around the instant that we heard a 60+ft boat capsized and went under right in front of us. People at the lead / Coast Guard apparently saved the people but THAT luxury ship was a goner!

Even the next day was rough. While we plowed straight across (took 5-6 HOURS, easily), even with three-four ft rollers it ws a nasty trip home from "Wheels." Felt sorry for the smaller vessels who were forced to stick close to land and try to cross at a more narrow point closer to the Detroit river. Took them a whole day. Glad to say there were no casualties in terms of human life that I recall but if you would have seen the boat that went under. MONSTER!

Again, not even close to being a great lake and St. Clair is absolutely huge.

Yes, all the manufacturing factories, 2 Nuclear Power Plants along the lake front has polluted the lake. I used to swim in it when I was a kid but I don't let my own children swim in it now. Lake Erie is shallow which makes it dangerous, winds can kick up and produce 4 to 6 foot swells in seconds. It's pretty scary being 6 miles out from shore where you can't see any land and have a storm come.

Those are ALL big ass lakes!

There is a good global. Erie highlighted. Lake St. Clair in the middle with Huron to the north of St. Clair. The "glove" of Michigan dead center with Canada wrapping down around to the south of MI.

Too bad Erie is polluted as all hell.

Nice shots. Lake St. Clair is a BIG ass lake and pales in comparison with Erie in both depth and size.
Cool when you see the dredging of the lake as St. Clair is really shallow. Dumps right into Erie. QUICK current both there and, especially, when it narrows into the Detroit River.
St. Clair is mid-left for those who don't know. Erie is the big sucker at the bottom and the little sliver of water that connects the two is about a mile across connecting Windsor and Detroit.

The crazy part is that out of the "Great Lakes" this is one of the smallest ones.

That was the only time I saw Dio, and it could not have been better.  Saw sabath at a realy bad concert mid to late 90;s, Tony martin at the mic, couldnt hear shit.  bad venue, bad sound guy, that was crap.  the heaven and hell tour was the perfect concert IMO
