Hey Caronctm, yes my whole yard is set-up kinda like an oasis. I love that tropical feel or envirorment. It's not that hard to do it yourself.

hey Hellrider, yes there are some cats that cruse through the yard sometimes, no problems yet. But i will keep my eye out for them. I'm a cat lover by the way, so i won't hurt them, but at the same time i don't want them around the pond.

Hi VICTIM OF METAL,
Your pond sounds great! A real little oasis! I dream of having a place of my own, to have the same sort of thing, someday.

SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT SETUP! ....ACTUALLY,I'M PLEASED TO HEAR IT'S ILLEGAL IN YOUR STATE TO KEEP TURTLES AS PETS,I HONESTLY FEEL THAT THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF PETS PET
SHOPS AND ALMOST ALL PEOPLE SHOULD NEVER BUY OR KEEP AND THAT IS TURTLES AND FROGS (OH AND SEEING BIRDS IN CAGES PISSES ME OFF TOO),TURTLES AND FROGS ARE SO ECO-SENSITIVE TO THEIR SURROUNDINGS,UNLESS YOU CAN REPLICATE THEIR NATURAL SETTING (SUCH AS YOUR POND FOR EXAMPLE) THEIR HEALTH WILL DETERIORATE USUALLY RESULTING IN A SLOW PAINFUL DEATH...I'M SURE YOU'LL HAVE FROGS AS VISITORS TO YOUR POND,AND THAT'S A GOOD THING...TURTLES ARE NICE,BUT I ALSO HAD AN OUTDOOR SETUP AND AS I STATED EARLIER I RELEASED THEM BACK INTO THE RIVER NEARBY WITH PLENTY OF TIME FOR THEM TO FIND A SUITABLE SPOT FOR WINTER SLEEP...I WOULDN'T WORRY ABOUT THOSE GROUNDHOGS,GARDENS THEY DO LIKE,BUFFET TIME FOR THEM,YES? ...I HAD ONE LIVING UNDER MY BACK PORCH YEARS AGO WHEN I LIVED IN THE COUNTRY,HE (OR SHE) WAS A CUTE LITTLE BUGGER DIDN'T BOTHER ANYONE (EXCEPT MY DOGS) ...OTHER THAN MAYBE A DRINK HERE ABD THERE,THEY SHOULDN'T BOTHER YOUR FISH.

YOUR "POND" OF EDEN SOUNDS VERY NICE INDEED,GOOD LUCK WITH IT.

No,lol they were Yuengling Lagers. I think they were good, went down so fast. I was very nervous for both new and existing fish, considering the size difference. But there is a well planted area that just the small fish can run to if need be.

Hey Soy my ponds size is about 12'x6'x20" with a waterfall on one end. It's the liner type not a prefab shell you just plop in the ground. Ihave a net over it to keep the leaves and acorns out. No problems with critters in the pond, but i've had issues with ground hogs in my garden, lol. I don't think they eat fish, mostly vegtables and clover i thought? We would like to have a turtle but it's illegal to keep them here in my state? And the reseach i've done on them tells me they might enjoy eating my fish if they can get one of them. My pond has about 20 feeder fish about 1/2" to an 1 1/2" long. 2 shubunkins 6-7"long. 2 jumbo fancy sarassa's. 4 tadpoles. 4 red and white orandas 2 1/2"- 4" long. No Koi fish yet, i understand they can rip-up a ponds plants eating the roots?

On sunday we went to a outdoor living & watergardens store to get some plants that go into the pond.  When we came upon the water lillies, we noticed a frog on top of a lilly pad. The gang went nuts, the gang being the rest of the family. So we picked out the lillies and moved to another plant area, and picked out those plants. Well being just a few feet away from the tubs/tanks that hold the different types of fish, the kids wondered over and started watching them. Soon i was called over and we were selecting fish. Everone knows that ever had a fish, it's sort of like picking out a puppy. The shape the size, the color or colors and so on. The kids noticed that in one tank there was big tadpoles with other fish. We asked about keeping tadpoles or frogs with the fish we have and were told they would be fine. The young very nice guy helping us gave us 4 for free. Now these tadpoles are about the size of a small dog biscuit, an 1"-1 1/2" long with there legs popping out, yet still have their tails, very cool the way they are changing yet caught between both stages. So getting home and setting up the plants, and introducing the new fish to the temps of my pond, and then freeing them into the pond was about 3 beers long. But i'm happy to say the newbies were welcomed to the pond by the smaller fish nicely.

I USED TO KEEP FISH TOO,EVEN TURTLES,BUT I'D USUALLY RELEASE THE TURTLES BACK INTO THE RIVER IN LATE SUMMER TO HAVE SUITABLE TIME TO FIND A PROPER HIBERNATION SPOT...BUT THE FISH NOT SHOWING THEMSELVES IS QUITE NORMAL,AS ALL ANIMALS NEED TIME TO ADJUST TO THEIR SURROUNDINGS...GREAT TO HEAR THEY'VE ADAPTED NICELY. ....HOW WIDE AND DEEP IS YOUR POND BY THE WAY?...AND HAVE YOU HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH LOCAL CRITTERS SUCH AS RACCOONS RAIDING THE POND?

Hey Soy, the fist couple of days the fish just wouldn't show themselfs. Slowly they became more friendly each week, and now it's at the point that they eat out of our hands. They even allow us to pet them when they are eating. It is very relaxing for the four of us. We never seem to run out of things to talk about while watching them swim about.

HEY THAT'S GREAT,I HOPE IT WORKS OUT WELL...I HAVE A FRIEND OUT IN THE COUNTRY NOT FAR FROM ME THAT HAS A DECENT SIZED HOMEMADE POND WITH ALL THE GADGETS TO GO WITH IT...SHE HAS A FEW TYPES OF GOLDFISH IN THERE ALONG WITH FROGS THAT RESIDE THERE ALSO...IT'S VERY RELAXING ALSO,ALMOST THERAPEUTIC YOU COULD SAY...
IT'S NEAT WHEN YOU WALK OVER TO THE EDGE OF THE POND,ALL THE FISH SWIM OVER TO YOU,LIKE A CAT WAITING FOR FEEDING TIME.

Yea some time ago,6-8 weeks? It's kinda neat, i designed the whole pond from scratch, with a homemade filter, lol, saved mega bucks there. Kids have names for all the fish. Pretty cool watching the fish interact with each other, they've all got different personalities.   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by lizash from Sunday, October 12, 2008 7:33:14 PM)

Understood... you gotta stick together, ... be solid, true to the cause, and all that...
But, dear ol' Ron ... he needs more help than that!

However, he has become quite wily & is fighting back since your little tip... thank you very much.  Just take a little longer to deal with him, is all...

Hey!  How's the little fishes?  I like your fish-pond idea.  (You guyz don't freeze  down there?  Do you have a fountain, or a pump?)
