hey atsau1 yea it was the nassu col. then and it was dangerous too. people were flipping out all around me. its not like that today.herein n.y. anyway. i always buy tickets last min and seem to get very good seats.just get floor seats .dress in code of 80s .leather vest snake boots etc. and it seems the ushers let me anywhere. jones beach that is.get there early keep it in red solo cups and the cops dont care. but what a mellow crowd today.ozzy is the only one i saw who everyone was standing up.somewhere i might still have a recording with firewoks in backround i snuck a small recorder in the show .it sounded shitty but what the hell .gonna go nuts looking for it. if i find ill let you know..5th row on glen side last year got kicked out for standing in isle.then walked over to kk side 2ed row my original tickit was like 26 rows back. cool huh? i did the same thing at ozzfest and velet revolver. works every time. |

Mark that had to be Nassau Coliesum ...I saw Priest twice i that tour ..... The Garden and The Meadowlands....I think it was called Brendan Byrne Arena back then..... The Garden show had No Fireworks.....but the seats....It looked like a friggin snow storm.... I remember Ron Halford had to go on MTV and apologize and tell promoters that this doesnt happen at all Priest shows it was just an isolated instance......2 days Later the Garden had Billy Joel for 6 nights in a row and the couldnt repair the seats in time..... There were some pissed off Billy Joel fans...heheheheheheh

defenders of the faith nassau col. mad sq garden 1 day later.what a show both were. fights breaking out all over the floor firewoks, i have to admit i was a little spooked blockbusters before show.and at the garden everyone ripped out seat cusions like frisbees piled on stage at least 6 ' high at end. great white open up and got boooooooed off. at least 20 blockbusters went on the floor and went off.people did get hurt. there is no recording of that .more bras n painties than aerosmith and ive seen them 6 times.there is more to tell but im new and dont have a point of entry. did anyone see these shows? the crouds are very mellow today . in my area anyway. I wish I seen a Judas Priest concert but damn, my parents and my bro watched Rising in the East with my bro and I didn't go when I was younger and they thought that if they played Painkiller (my favorite song ever!! ) it would scare the crap out of me.
Maybe I'll see the 30th Aniversary British Steel concert... Hopefully or then I'll get em by trying to make a Painkiller sculpture and see how they react. Mwuahahahahahaaaa.... Edited at: Friday, April 17, 2009 11:21:38 AM |

I've been checking out different topics here. It seems that there are a lot of negative people hanging out!!! Why would be???
I don't go to the U2 site. I respect their music, but I don't like it.
I don't go to the Pink Floyd site. I respect their music, but I don't like most of it.
From what I can tell... This is suppose to be a site for the fans. Not anything like a political site, where everyone should have a say in the matter.
If you don't like Judas Priest... I respect that.... Don't listen to them... And don't tell me about it... I got enough of that from my parents...30 years ago! |

One thing I knew for sure, after that first British Steel Show, was that Judas Priest was gonna was gonna be a huge hit. Their energy is contagious. Their proformance is tight. Their music is kick ass. |

Lisa, thank you for sharing your experience. My first tour was Defenders of the Faith. 1984. I first fell in love with them when Screaming came out but Mom wouldn't let me go to the show can't wait to see them this summer. |

The set list That was 30 years, many bottles of Jack Daniels, and many brain cells ago Not to mention, I have seen Judas Priest many time.
I do remember they played Victim of Changes, The Ripper, Sinner, all the main songs from Hell Bent and British Steel. I want to say they did Beyond The Realms Of Death, I'm sure I've seen that one live once.
Maybe Brirose can remember some, he was there too. |

Sounds like you had a great time, Lisa!! Too bad I wasn't around back then. What was the setlist? [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Lisa Samarron from Saturday, April 04, 2009 2:29:32 AM) | | Lisa Samarron wrote: | | The date was Sunday June 15 1980. San Diego State Open Air Theater. It was my first Priest show. I was 17 years old. The show was not even close to being sold out. After the first song, Rob looked out at us. He could see our excitement, our love of the music. He looked at wooded barrier between us and the band. I remember him looking up at us, looking down at the barrier a couple times. He then said something about it being a party, why the gap? I remember the bouncers looking like "WTF". We then closed the gap. I found myself a place kneeling on that wooden barrier. I loved Priest's music before that show.. I loved Priest by the end of the show... The following year... Priest's show was sold out... The crowd outside wanted in so bad they broke down the gates. (Stupid move in my book) The show was cut short. I remember the news said that Priest was never allowed back at SDSU... Never Say Never Priest will be back at SDSU this August. I now live in Humboldt County, CA, 800 miles north of San Diego. Sure I could catch British Steel 30th tour up north here somewhere. I want to be there, in San Diego!!! I will be there!!!!
Thank You Priest, Lisa Samarron

What a trip.. Coming across someone that was at that same show.
Can you believe it's been 30 years???
Do you remember who opened up for Priest?
My sister has already purchased 4 tickets for the Aug show. She got section DD. That show in 1980 I was in section AA.
I now live in Humboldt County, California, which is 800 miles from San Diego. I'm going to do my best to get my butt down there.
Last time I saw Priest was at 4th & B. Scott (The Ripper) was the singer at that time.
