Yah the American Idol thing was cheesy as I don't like that kid singing metal although he can sing ect...it was cheesy but at the same time, since Priest has always been a commercial band anyways, its nice to see them in this kind of spotlight in front of millions of viewers(although I've never seen one episode lol) instead of Maiden for a change HA!

They really were happy about it and that put a big smile on my face as well! Hearing Scott talk made my day too! I only watched the first 10 minutes of the show - thank God Priest was on FIRST and I could turn it off after that!!!

I'm glad you posted that. To see how excited they were makes me feel better thinking it was a good idea.
How can exposure not be good? All I know is that when I saw that video I had a big ol' grin. I like when Judas
gets recognized.
I still won't watch American Idol though.(LOL) I gotta keep my streak going. (Zero episodes watched.)

i dont like american idol but im glad someone finally stood up for metal on it. thats one reason i dont like it because they are all the same. while i personally wouldnt want to be on the show if i had a fan stand up for metal that strongly in the face of all the crappy music, i would go on it and let people hear some real music.

Absolutely HB. And here is what Priest had to say about why they did it in an interview on the Red Carpet:

it is a way to give back to a fan, as well as promote the band

Put the free publicity they just got aside, think about it like this: here is this young singer that absolutely LOVES Judas Priest, so much so that he sang a Priest song for the first time ever on American Idol. James has been flying the metal flag on that show, exposing people to metal that never would have listened to it otherwise. Then, for the finale show, they ask the contestants who they want to perform with. James says Judas Priest. Now, knowing how much Priest loves their fans, I don't see them turning him down. How could they?  No matter how you see that show, and I NEVER watch it by the way, it was a big honor for them to be there with megastars from all genres of music. I see it more as flying the flag for metal proudly rather than selling out, but I can see that it may look like that.

I have been a fan for about 35 years.  I have never seen Priest on American TV and it was nice.  But it would have been better if they appeared on a program that stood for something better than the same old garbage.  They do not promote unique music, they are all about 13 year old girls and old ladies.  I stil love the band, and I respect why the show was done, but, I was ashamed at the same time.  That kid was about as metal as Celine Dion.  Well, regardless, I will see you on tour when you are out this way.  Rock forever....

What a surprise to see the Priest on Idol. It sure put a smile on my face!

Ahhh yes. Was a bit nervous to see they had performed, knowing that I was going to see Faulkner with Priest for the first time. And I was.... really happy about his performance and looking forward to the tour!

Ive been a long time reader (5 years+) but never posted here, but had to give in now!

What solo work! Blazin'. He's a very fine guitarist that's for sure. Someone said they felt the solo was a little "modern" and I do agree and know what you mean, but it's not necessarily a bad thing. KK Downing came right outta the rockers cliche right. Leaving home at young age and picking up the guitar, taught himself. That's why he has/had that raw unmatched type of playing right. Now with Faulkner we get this new generation of "professional" guitarists. I dont mean to say AT ALL that Downing is not a professional - KK was/is my favourite Priest member. But Faulkner clearly is a very polished technician.

When I grew up and Zakk Wylde was Ozzys axe man I was a die hard fan of him and his playing. Faulkner is clearly inspired by Zakk. Which means I'm having a ball this tour! :)

The band was a little "stiff" but after all it was on Idol. I hope Richie lets loose and gives it all on stage this summer!

(For all of you wanting KK back and maybe having lost the spirit a little; I feel you and I don't think it's fair to bash on those feeling down for his departure, maybe lost the interest a little. What helps me is that KK clearly had enough, he wasnt in it with his heart anymore, thank you for everything but I'm sure Faulkner will do a fantastic job. Plus Priest is more than the sum of its parts. I also got a private message from Richie on twitter the other day, and he seems like a really down to earth guy.)

Great performance on Idol. Hope they swing into Oregon on the tour.

Too bad KK retired, but the new kid looked good.

Stinkin' cool!!!

It was a great performance. Trumps the appearance they made on the Jimmy Kimmel show a few years ago by a ton. And yeah, I gotta agree with Bwian, Richie's solo was indeed "sick". Loved that singer's outfit, and Rob's coat as well. I don't know how many times I said it already, but I can't wait to see the JP live later this year!!!
[Brian_Evans] Wednesday, May 25, 2011 11:58:24 PM
Well I finally got the video to download (on dial-up right now ..lol) but that Falkner solo was sick!
[Becks] Wednesday, May 25, 2011 11:50:37 PM
Ok that was cool! Priest on Idol! Some may begrudge that, but I think it was a great way to introduce Richie (who did a great job) and to get in the public eye before their tour. Plus it was a cool performance!
[tasnam1] Wednesday, May 25, 2011 11:50:30 PM

Just checked out Internet Movie Database.

Judas Priest's "rank" or Popularity is up over 14,457 points (or % ? )

Either way exposure is a good thing for the band at this time in their career. (Little too late, but we'll take it)

GOOD FOR YOU GUYS and GOOD for RICHIE NEW FRESH ENERGY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy crap, Priest on U.S. national TV (and a lot of others as well). I'm expecting to see a lot of new members on this site soon...

That solo by Richie was quite neat, but at the same time it felt a little too... modern. Maybe a little too fast. His stage performance looked quite, OK although he was given very little camera time. I'll still wait until June 11th, when I see the band on stage, before I give a full opinioin about him.
