I just love the British Steel cover, simple and clean. I just don't think they can ever top that one.

Hell bent for leather/Killing machine is another strange cover. I suppose it is what you see in it. Could be a futuristic, science fiction like, heavy metal style fighter pilot. But what is that red on his glasses, reflection of explosions in the sky, or his own blood, hard to say...

it was a change in cover art, a simpler more direct bit.  the steel from their hometown, made into a razor, sharp, cutting...

signaled a change in musical direction also.

 And, and, and...!

Well.

Then there's the cover of British steel, and to be honest, I don't quite understand it. A razor. Fat fingers holding a razor. I just don't get it. The name British steel is, in my opinion, VERY good. That's what it is. Metal. Steel. British. But... I think it should have been something bigger... much bigger. Let's say, a fighter plane, for example. Or at least a machete.

I don't know why people still talk about "albums". If it's a double vinyl LP with gatefold sleeves then I suppose it can make some sense to call it an album. How can a CD disc in a plastic package be an album, I don't know, I would talk about "records" instead, LP or CD.

Whatever.

I was thinking about Judas Priest cover art. I like the unified heavy metal style they have created for themselves, first such cover being Screaming for vengeance, the latest, Single cuts. It's pure heavy metal and I like it. But looking at the whole Judas Priest discography, I think Sin after sin is their best cover so far. There's just something fascinating in that picture, could be a cover of some good mystery novel, it's so good I could buy it as a poster and frame it.

So, any opinions about Judas Priest cover art, or record cover art in general?
