I have to agree with JimmyJames,  Priest has tons of gay "under-tones" (or is it over-tones?) in al LOT of their songs.

TRUE they are written for both sexes, but with a "slant" toward the gay preference.

Not sure about Starbreak.....though it would surprise me.

TONS of songs, just read the lyrics while listening and pretend you are Rob writing.

They eat the "buttons" that grow on the cactus.
It's supposed to be like mescaline, maybe stronger.

Pick one GD! I know I'd love to hear a bunch of that Record. That is why I have yet to put in a one song off each album request, probably never will. I just hope some rare ones creep in.

I agree with SPA, but ...
Back to the subject matter of this thread
Hell Bent for Leather I think is the most under rated album in the catalog, for me it has many songs that are so strong and I hope to hear live next time around!
[spapad] Saturday, March 12, 2011 6:30:34 PM
I agree Becks. Actually when I found out Jawbreaker was what it was, I was surprised as it works as a song without that angle. I do think almost all of Rob's lyrics are multilayered, and can work for anyone. That is what makes a classic song.

NO, I bet the artist was left to his own devices, and that figure coming up the hill looks very natural.

I agree, I find any of the songs Priest have about love etc to be rather androgenous, as in it applies to any type of relationship.

It's a cactus found in the midwest, to Mexico areas. When brewed, or whatever the hell they do to it, it is a very potent hallucinagin.

[HOT ROCKIN' METAL GODDESS] Saturday, March 12, 2011 6:18:35 PM
No, they don't have "loads" of gay songs! WTF? Rob has always kept the lyrics neutral, so that they apply to gay or straight couples. Just because he is gay and he writes about relationships, that doesn't make a song homosexual. Love is love and it applies to all, period.
And again, Who gives a shit if a song is "gay" or not??? I sure as hell don't!

Perspective, and it's supposed to look like he's leaning in towards her as he approaches. You really don't think the artist for this jacket was told to make a big gay to do over nothing do you?  Saw your last post, and yes the joke is on us! LOL

Because Plain and Simple it is not. Now, I will agree with a few being geared that way, but you are really reaching on this one.

It's a joke, relax. However If you want to get into body mechanics I think the angle he's on with his legs as close together as they are and his arms by his sides, he would fall over.

I don't want it to be gay, I just think it is. Priest have loads of gay songs, why not this one?

What you are looking at is body mechanics. The way a person would climb a rocky outcrop. He's standing there on uneven ground. In my opinion your are way over reaching.

[HOT ROCKIN' METAL GODDESS] Saturday, March 12, 2011 5:02:27 PM
It has always been my experience that people determined to find something wrong with the lyrics in a song, always do because they read WAAAAAAY TOO MUCH into things, or take it completely out of context! People were hell bent on making Priest a "satanic" band way back when and the shit they told me the lyrics meant was absolutely hysterical! You WANT the song to be gay because Rob is gay and that's why you see it that way.

As a whole work I do like Point of Entry, minus about at least 3 songs. The kick ass songs are worth the lameness though.

[jimmyjames] Saturday, March 12, 2011 4:32:11 PM
Yeah those songs are all great and save the album but the rest of it is pretty rubbish. Check out the dark figure on the album cover, he's not straight.

[Becks] Saturday, March 12, 2011 4:22:25 PM
LOL you' ve certainly done some sleuthing with the lyrics JJ!!! It's good to have a debate about what we think songs are about etc.
I don't think I've actually answered the question about Priests most underrated album. In some respects I think Point of Entry is underrated, people think that album is full of Don't Go type songs (incidentally I like that song, it makes me laugh hehe) but it has some great songs on it, Heading out to the Highway, Solar Angels, Desert Plains etc. So in a way it is terribly underrated.

[Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by jimmyjames from Saturday, March 12, 2011 3:50:11 PM)
[jimmyjames] Saturday, March 12, 2011 3:50:11 PM
I think the Starbreaker is a gay guy who is opening up the gay lifestyle to guys who are confused about their sexuality. He does this by exposing them to a world that is vastly different to the one they are used to and one which will ultimately bring them happiness, should they decide to go his way. All the references to cruising, hand holding, stealing hearts and getting high aside that's basically what it's about. Whether or not you agree I'm glad that comment sparked some debate.

As for the album cover I'm surprised that the dark figure hasn't fallen over leaning on that angle and I love how the female figure at the front appears to be naked apart from her high heels.
[Becks] Saturday, March 12, 2011 12:13:45 AM
I think they're both pretty moody albums, I mean SWOD has VOC, Dreamer Deceiver, Genocide etc, and SAS has Sinner, Dissident Aggresso and Hear Come the Tears, but to me Starbreaker really ups the mood of that album a bit. But overall, I can't decide which is moodier LOL!

I don't see it as gloomy. Ok in Raw Deal, someone dies, but there was much more gloomy shit on Rocka Rolla and Sad Wings. But I like Gloomy. I love Dying to Meet you.

Somehow,Sin After Sin is "darker" and moodier/gloomier than Sad Wings Of Destiny....I don't know how that works but it seems darker,somber..ect...than Sad Wings which would be the next gloomier album....??Himmm.....
[guidogodoy] Friday, March 11, 2011 11:42:54 PM
I think the black dude is a skinny Rob sans hat.
[spapad] Friday, March 11, 2011 11:39:36 PM
She is the unknown, a flicker of light. The maker is there, she will get her wish, and she will be a sinner when all is said and done. My opinion of a very classic artwork. Only the artist could tell us why he chose to portray the album in such a matter.

Yeah many people think Rob is the only one who write lyrics, and he does 80% of them but in the past Glenn and K.K. did contribute to some, and as we all know almost all tracks are Halford/Downing/Tipton so I highly doubt that K.K. and Glenn would let a song get through being about homosexuality, besides Rob already said all Priest lyrics are not about homosexuality.....maybe "Raw Deal" from Sin After Sin has some hints in it,but thats few and far between though, same with Evil Fantasies too perhaps but I'm just speculating....Starbreaker definately has nothing to do with homosexuality,if it did I'd be utterly shocked because the lyrics have nothing to do with any of this.

I never thought about that aspect of it, all the bullshit bands go through to become the chosen few. But that makes a lot of sense. I always just thought about it as a sci fi story of escaping the bullshit in this world and being chosen to be taken away to paradise. We always think of other life forms as being far superior to us and their worlds being "like paradise". One thing that I've now realized about Rob's writing is that he tends to blend a couple stories or ideas together. But you, Becks and I pretty much interpret it the same way and it's definitely NOT what JJ is saying!

Since you bring it up with a picture...I say that the female with her head lowered in shame must be the sinner tempted by the figure in black!
Ok, so the lyrics don't really back me up on this one. She can be the Starbreaker, then. lol

I always thought Starbreaker was a Sci-Fi idea too, like a mystical being character or something of the sort....that shadow-shape-person on the left of the album I always thought was either the Starbreaker or the Sinner when I was 11 years old in 1981 when I bought the LP ha!

I completely forgot he is such a big sci fi fan, and the band making it to the top thing is something that never crossed my mind lol. I knew it was about a sci fi character, as Rob tends to write about often. No homosexual undertones or anything there lol.

Not to mention the fact that Rob is really into Science Fiction. That's what I get from the song too, it's science fiction about a "savior" that will take us to paradise (or looking at it now, I suppose it could be about drugs?). And I agree completely Becks, just because Rob is gay doesn't mean every song he writes has homosexual undertones..... I'm really sick of fans thinking every song is gay now that Rob came out. Before no one ever thought they were, but now some people see it in every song. And even if it is, WHO CARES???

You never made that connection because that is NOT what the song is about Becks. JJ's completely off on this one. And I really hope they play Starbreaker with an extended drum solo on the Epitaph tour, that would totally kick ass!!!

[Becks] Friday, March 11, 2011 7:24:55 PM
To me it's a typical Priest made up character song, some dude called Starbreaker taking people away to space or something 'star voyage to a new world, lightyear miles away' etc.
Bear in mind I am a very literal person, I don't read undertones very well, but in saying that I find it very hard on reading the lyrics to pick up any gay undertone. Just cos Rob is gay doesn't mean every crazy Priest song is about gay stuff LOL.
