A killer chihuahua??? Jeez, if you managed to make a chihuahua dangerous enough to scare 'em off, I dread to think what would happen if you got your hands on a ROTTWEILER!!! It's not that I mind them coming round, and I love religious debates... In my case, what weirded me out was the fact that this woman came from Germany, was old enough to know all about the horrors of the concentration camps, and still considered the mass slaughter described in the Old Testament (of which we have no proof whatsoever, I might add), to be JUSTIFIABLE under the title, "ETHNIC CLEANSING". WTF????????? She was going on about how the Israelites were 'God's chosen people', and that therefore everyone who lived near them had to be wiped out to 'purify' humanity. I just got kinda pissy and pointed out that the Nazis talked the same way - seemed to touch a nerve...

HAAAAAHAAHAAAA!!! Oh man, I wish it had been that easy for me when I was living in my last accommodation! I was house-sharing with, among others, a Jehovah's Witness... At one point we (my fiance and I, plus a friend of ours) all missed DINNER because we were arguing so long and hard - not that it wasn't fascinating stuff (and I do enjoy challenging people's faith 'cos it's often the only time in their LIVES when they actually start to think critically of their own viewpoints - sadly rarely for very long), but man were we hungry afterwards... Maybe I should get a Maiden T-Shirt just to scare away any Christian fundies who might come knocking!!! Incidentally... you call 25 a KID??? Man, I suddenly feel young again after being in a depressive "I'm getting old" funk after my 22nd birthday! HAAAAAAAA!!!

Yes! Long it was and far it was but oooh such a good time! There are some (less than flattering) photos up on my facebook profile if you wanna check them out and one or two scenery shots to show my lovely country off. I still have slightly stiff calf muscles but they're eased enough for me to spin tomorrow. Got a cool race coming up on Sunday so I don't want to overdo anything there. I'm hoping to improve time to move up in seeding catagory.

Demonizer13!!!! Hey,well we are all ready for some Judas Priest styled heavy metal but the Winter Songs album kinda spoiled the mood for some evil bone crunching metal mayhem...christmas songs kinda has the nack of doing that!! lol !!!! I'm not bashing any of you out there that like the Winter Songs album,I'm actually envious of all of you that do because I wish the Metal God delivered something that I could get into.I'm just bashing the album itself hahaha lol!!!The Winter Songs album is another Turbo mixed with Nostradamus,a recipe for disaster!!! lol!! This next album by the Priest is a critical one boy.

I was so pooped on Halloween I totally missed the 'festivities' lol.

On Saturday we did a 22km mountain hike. I was under the impression that it was a 'mountain walk' Totally different thing all together. Turns out climbing a mountain whilst wearing trainers not good at all!
Never the less, the hike was fantastic although physically I was unprepaired for it. My feet hurt like hell by the time we were done but so worth it. The views were amazingly beautiful and I had such a sense of acomplishment once I crossed the finish line.

I sort of felt like Mark's creation toward the evening HRMG lol.

OK, so I am not sure if I should post this here or in the "Things that make you Laugh" section but I simply MUST share this with you all!! (Mind you, what you are about to read is NOT made up)

I just had a knock on my front door and, when I answered it, a nicely dressed young man (around 25 or so) was standing on my porch with his bible.  He said, "Hello, I am from the church of God". Now, it just so happens that I am wearing my Iron Maiden/Number of the Beast  t-shirt today!!  HAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am TOTALLY serious. The kid glanced down at my shirt  at the same time as I did and, when we both locked eyes again, we BOTH burst out into laughter!!!!!! HAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!!!  I told him to have a nice day and off he went, still snickering!!  I SWEAR to you, I am STILL laughing!!!! I ran back to tell the Princess and now SHE is laughing! Absolutely HILARIOUS!!!   HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ahhh...so your family still observes the holiday here? Weird thing is that once she immigrated to the US, my mom didn't celebrate it but observed Halloween instead (if at all). She would also tell me the same story of her brother eating the ofrendas over and over again.

Feliz Día de los Muertitos.

Very poignant post, geeds! Wonderful insight into a very misunderstood holiday. Its funny how other cultures view death and lost loved ones. The celebrations that most cultures have are proof (once again) that we Americans have so many hang ups... I blame the christians.....  HAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!!!  (Kidding!! Right on the money, Vail, save for the "most of Latin-American part." Rightly called "All SOULS day" by non-latinos, it corresponded to Catholic holidays. Nov 1 / Nov 2. All Saints Day followed by all Souls day (of course the Saints have to come first). Celebrated primarily in México and those who now live in the US.

When I was a kid, my grandmother (moved from MX to the states, would make a literal shrine in her living room....much as we do with the Red Wings!). Cookies shaped like little skulls were for the kids and tequila or pulque for the adults. ALWAYS a plate for the dead being remembered. In México, we'd do this right in the cemetary of Monterrey.

Originally, it was only the Mexicans or "chicanos" (those that came to the US...topic for another day) that celebrated it but now, like Halloween, it has caught on in many countries. Not exclusively latino / luso (Brazil has something similar) nor Catholic countries either. Really odd.

In Guanajuato (where I spent a lot of time as a child and adult), you CANNOT disassociate the festival (as it IS a celebration of the life of the person rather than a mourning) with the fantastic art of José Guadalupe Posada. Notice how happy they are....reflects the celebration. I have my little shrine all set up.

Well it would appear that we all ( or most ) made it through the fiendish evening and lived to see another first of November. NOVEMBER!!!!!!!!! Good Lord! Where did this year go? Simply amazing how quickly the months pass us by. And I must admit, this year has been one to remember. What a GREAT tour by the Priest and all the meet-ups we managed to put together and all the memories we have made...again!

Perhaps sitting here this early in the morning beside the fire puts me in a bit of a pensive mood? I don't know for sure but I find that I recall this year with great fondness, for I have seen many wonderful things this year and spent time with some special people. I look back over the posts and I see that so many of us have shared time with one another. Time. Our most precious of assets and greatest of gifts. And there were some that shared that precious gift with me. I cannot thank them enough.

As yet another year winds to an end, I find that I am once again so very grateful for the wonderful people of this Board. You guys make some of the terrible days much better and the good ones great.  Thanks to all of you for another great year and lets be sure to do it all again come January!!

It's basically a day of remembering relatives who have passed away and its a time to celebrate life (correct me if I'm wrong, Guids). Families in Mexico and most of Latin America make food for their dead relatives and place them at the altar or at their graves.

My mom told me on several occasions that she and her family would make the food and place them at the graves of their dead relatives. The next day, the food would be completely gone, and everyone  thought the dead came back to life the night before to eat it all up. Later on she discovered that one of her brothers would sneak out and eat the food.

HA!!!!!!!!!!!!! How funny! Bathrobes and pajamas are pretty common Halloween costumes here...although students do show up in their pajamas to school during regular days as well...why, I don't know.

Well, it's now Nov. 1st...no more Halloween here. It's now Day of the Dead in Mexico.

LOL I bet. Here, usually if even teenagers are seen trick treating they're really frowned upon. It's viewed as something for younger kids here, if we gave out treats (which we don't simply because hardly anyone is in to it enough to make it worthwhile) we'd be happy just to see an effort made with costumes - sometimes you see kids going around wearing nothing but those kids towels that have a hood on them. That's not a proper costume! LOL!

I got a couple of Reeses' peanut-butter cups, which are awesome. Got a few tootsie rolls, a small bag of kettle corn, and alot of Snickers mini-bars.

Yeah, trick-or-treating for Halloween is a big thing here in the States. It's mainly for the kids, but it's just as fun doing it as an (almost) adult...although you do get alot of raised eyebrows from the candy-givers.

Haha true. Halloween sounds fun - when everyone is in to it I mean. It's not a custom here, it's only started happening over the last few years, and not many people embrace it. I always wanted to do it as a kid, seeing it on tv and movies LOL. Did you get some good treats?
