FMQB: Judas Priest Still Plotting Nostradamus Road Show

Ever since the two-disc "Metal Opera" Nostradamus came out in June, Judas Priest has been planning to do an elaborate stage show where they play the album in its entirety. That idea is still something the band is "absolutely committed" to, but it likely won't happen until later in 2009.

"We talk about it constantly, and that's what we're going to do at the end of the world tour sometime next year," singer Rob Halford recently told FMQB. "At the back end of the summer, we're going to wind up the regular tour. Then we'll go straight into production for the Nostradamus show and we'll probably do a DVD to go along with that. We'll more than likely launch it in London or somewhere in the U.K., because that's our home base. Then we'll see what happens. My gut feeling tells me that once it's been delivered, everybody will want to see it and feel it live, and that might entail taking it to a lot of places around the planet. It's going to be great. It's something we've been looking forward to doing for a long time after actually making the record itself. The next step is to perform it in its entirety, which we've never done before."

In the meantime, Judas Priest is enjoying two Grammy nominations for the album. They are up for Best Hard Rock Performance for the track "Visions," and Best Metal Performance for the song "Nostradamus." Additionally, Halford just released the new Live At Rock In Rio III DVD from his former band, Halford, via his own label: Metal God Entertainment. In addition to putting out his own archive releases from his former groups like Halford and Fight, he will be looking to sign new talent to Metal God in the future.

"We're still in the early stages of becoming solid and secure, but the word is out throughout the music industry about what we can do and what we've achieved so far," says Halford of his label. "We work with really talented people out of the office in Phoenix. We have a wonderful team at Distribution that works with us for these releases, so we've got all that locked in. On top of that, there is a constant love and flow and need for all things heavy metal. At some point we're going to open the doors for bands to submit their demos. Then we'll look at what we can do to help the new metal talent get into the world."

Despite having other irons in the fire, Halford insists that Priest will always be his main priority. Even after more than 30 years together, their passion for the band has not diminished.

"I just love doing it. It's the best feeling in the world," he says. "To get into a writing huddle, or to be in the dressing room with Priest as we get ready to go on stage – we're still driven by that feeling of wanting to get out of bed and do that everyday. It doesn't diminish. We're still hungry, we're still full of ideas. We're still full of the energy and motivation that the fans give us. That's the main factor – without that devotion from the fans, there would be no reason to do it. Musicians do what they do essentially for the self-pleasure, but you need to be able to take it to the main level of sharing it with everybody else, and we're able to do that consistently."

pathetic (adj) :  pitifully inferior or inadequate. Marked by melancholy or sorrow

Now then, having more accurately defined the word, shall we look more closely at the behavior before we use it? Writing a poem is pathetic?? AH! Such a sage you are, lawn dwarf!  Perhaps an examination of behavior is really in order?? I should think being a coward  that preys on women online while hiding behind a computer is a much more fitting description of pathetic, no? Of course , to completely understand what I am saying would require at least minimal intelligence and some sort of education and I fear we are not dealing with such a person at this point. One should always truly understand the meaning of the words one chooses to use in a public forum, lest one find himself being ridiculed. I assume you are used to that, though. Wonderful laughing at you, lawn dwarf.  How proud your parents must be!

[spapad] Thursday, December 25, 2008 12:01:24 AM
Twas the night before christmas and all through the board
Not a creature was stiring, not even the Guid
The Metal was hung on the thread with care
Hoping St. Rob would soon be there
The bloggers were snuggled in their beds
while visions of Priest played in their heads
The Sinful thread Silent , the Blah also had no chatter
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter
I sprang from my computer to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash
Tore open the window and threw out the sash
The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow
gave the luster of midday from the truck lights below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a Mack truck and my favorite band with their gear!
They played Nostradamus so lively and quick
I knew in a moment I must be delusional and sick
More rapid than eagles the solos they came
And Rob whipped them, and shouted, and called them by name
Now KK, Now Glenn, Now Ian and Scott!
It's Christmas Night and we're playin' it hot!
To the top of the volume! To the top of it All!
Now, Play away, Play away, Play away ALL!

Cant get any cornier than that! LOL

Goodnight Metal Family,
Merry Chirstmas!

So good to see all the warm and wonderful wishes from our membership. This time of year, we think of those that mean so much to us. Our family. Our friends. Isn't it wonderful that we all have one another? The happiness this place brings. The frustration! HA!!!!!! The warm and true friendships! I am so grateful for you all. I know I have said this , many times many ways...I truly cherish you ..All of you

Over the years, Christmas time has been relatively slow around here. I am glad. This is a time we should spend with our loved ones. Although I do love you all, it is important that we do not find ourselves "glued" to our computers! I have tried to be a bit more attentive to the Princess the last couple days. We went to dinner last night and we are going to her sister's tonight. Sharing the holiday. Being together. With family.

And so, with all the love and warmth in my soul, I wish for each and every member of Judas Priest.com a wonderful and very Merry Christmas! (That includes you, Murray..HA!!!)  Thank you guys for making me laugh. For making me smile. For being here when I needed someone. You are always here. I can count on that. Tomorrow when we begin opening our presents, I will pause, close my eyes, and think of my family here on the Board. For just a brief moment, we will be together and we will share just as any other family shares and then I will open my eyes and continue with our Christmas celebration. I just wanted all of you to know that.

I'd like to wish everyone here a Merry Metal Christmas and Happy Heavy New Year!
As you've probably noticed I haven't been online here very often in the last few weeks due to the fact that I'm pretty busy on another Metal Forum. It also is pretty hard to keep track here because of the time zone difference in Germany - you guys just get up a bit earlier and we could do a bit more talking!
Well, in any case I'm still here - although not that much physically but in heart and soul and I'm very excited about the upcoming tour!
I just can't wait for the Metal Gods to blow me away in Stuttgart next year!

So, I hope everyone gets what they deserve - shit, I meant "wished for"...
CU soon!

Hail And Kill

Feck!  Where does all the time go?

Lately I haven't had as much time to be here as I'd like to have but I've still had a peek in everyday to see how my metal family are.

It's been a tough week in Draperville.. On Saturday I had to go shopping and something so scary happened. I was busy paying for something and we got distracted, in the confusion my two year old daughter sort of walked out of the store we were in without anyone noticing. It took about 20 seconds to realize that she was missing> I dropped everything, ran out the store and about 5 stores up from where we were, I saw an elderly gent leading her away from me. First, I froze in terror and then ran toward them and grabbed her away from him. As I got closer and before instinct took over and I grabbed her, I did hear him saying to her 'Is that your mommy?' as he pointed to ladies in his vicinity. So luckily for us he was a good samaritin trying honestly to find her parents. When I realized that I was watching two strangesr walking away in a mall, I realized how fast and how easily an abduction can take place. To any outside observer, they could have so easily passed for grandfather and granddaughter. What scared me the most is how trusting and comfortable she was with a total stranger!  I still feel very freaked out over the incident and I always thought of myself as a very vigilant parent but, I guess this is how these things happen. You think that, I took my eys of her for a second, what can go wrong in a second.. a lot can go wrong.

Hee hee hee, had to post this for all, having to share it, and knowing that no-one in my house would get it...

Headbanging has been branded a "health hazard" by the first ever study into the sacred heavy metal ritual.

A report, published in today's British Medical Journal by Declan Patton and Andrew McIntosh from the School For Risk And Safety Sciences at the University Of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia concluded that headbanging leaves participants with "similar effects to whiplash."

The pair conducted an extensive study of headbanging, attending numerous concerts and observing various headbanging techniques. They were then able to come up with a biomechanical analysis and a "theoretical headbanging model".

The study showed that a typical death metal song has approximately 146 beats-per-minute, which, combined with headbanging arcs of at least 45 degrees, will more than likely "cause mild head and neck injury." They also warned that faster tempos and wider arcs provide a "definite risk of mild traumatic brain injury."

And don't just take their word for it, doctors believe that in 2005, Evanescence guitarist Terry Balsamo suffered a stroke from headbanging too hard.

(and Good evening to all!)

Of course, when I was young there was no "cable". We had an antenna on top of the house. That was it. I believe I actually bought cable around my freshman year in college. I had that long box with a bunch of buttons on it for a "remote". It had a long wire which ran to the television. HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ah! The "good, old days"!
[Head banger] Saturday, December 20, 2008 8:18:16 AM
how many people over there do have cable?  last time I was in England, I didnt meet anyone with it, of course, it was 89, I think and all I met was old relatives.  loved no comercials.

OH, and I REALLY think that we should move this to the social issues thread. Freeze, please, could you respond there? I mean, we are sort of obstructing the regular activity here.
[_strat_] Friday, December 19, 2008 4:40:59 PM
Decent life, not wage. There is a world of difference between the daily/weekly/monthly sum of money that we get for our work, and the lifestyle we live. The fact of the matter is that it is indeed subjective. It depends, on the individual, but much more so on the overall social status of a society. The fact is that we do measure our wealth by how much other people have. That is why Im a big advocate of promoting social equality.

Pension is NOT a reward from a company. It is an OBLIGATION of the company to pay in your pension fund (at least by our laws it is). Pensions,  guaranteed minimal wages, limited work hours, guaranteed lunch time and the rest of the workers rights are NOT solidarity from the ruling classes. Infact, when capitalism first evolved some 200 years ago, workers had NONE of those rights. They were fought for in many years of strikes, union pressures, unrests, and overall class struggle.

The information about the thousands wanting to become succesfull businesmen comes from observing. Statistics. Over here, the most sought after high school and college programes are busines related - much more people want to get an education in economics than (for example) carpentry.

The thing about education is also what Guido already mentioned. In a capitalist system, with private education, good education is not a right, its a privilege. Sure, if you try hard enough, you may get a scholarship, but connections and money of the elite will ALWAYS outgun the regular people that want to make it big.

Than it is of course the matter of just how much value does education actualy have. I know people without highschool education that are actualy quite intelligent and reasonable. And I have a case in my wider family, of a very well educated guy, who is a total dumbass, and fuck all his degrees and diplomas. The only thing that good education proves is that you are persistent enough to learn and work. It DOES NOT automaticaly mean that you have intelligence, leadership abilities, intelligence, etc. In short, there is much more to a person than just his/her education.

Leading, yes, someone has to. But to what extent? Over what? With what level of authority? Set by whom? Responsible to whom? Do the CEOs and managers answer to their employees? No, they dont. They used to over here, back in socialism, when they answered to the workers councils. That worked. This doesnt. Should they have practicly unlimited authority in their companies? Because the fact of the matter is that companies are more or less dictatorships.

And yes, you really are being naive. I cannot be a CEO. And all else aside, I dont WANT to be one. Im a graphic designer. Thats what I do, and hopefully my further education will be in that direction. Its what I chose and what I like. So, someone else chooses to be a businesman. Why should he/she be valued more than me, or you (whatever the proffesion you are in is)?

not everyone can get the same education.  and I agree, it woud take a miracle for a kid raised in inner city detroit to a single mom to become CEO of ford.  then again, they might be looking for a new direction.

Sure they have to go thru metal detectors.  sucks that so many of their peers think that the way to success lies thru 9mm, not even knowing what mm is (DF thats millimeters, as in 1/1000 of a meter, which is a bit larger than a yard).  but, what we need to show them, it that sucess lies not in driving an escalade with 24 inch rims, but being able to aford to raise kids somewhere where the school doesnt have metal detectors, and where they have a chance to get into the good schools.  the fact is, a lot of the poor think that sucess lies thru either
a) NBA/NFL
b) being a big name rapper
c) dealing
D) the sights of a 9mm (held sideways like in the movies)

growing up knowing that, or knowing that as a single mom, the easy way to get more welfare is to have another kid, thats what creates the class impression that they cant get ahead.  and the way it is, most dont.

as to video games, I grew up with tron and space invaders.  man, we must have woried about aliens and computers alot.  at least I didnt grow up with pong, that woul have been dull!!!

"Education remains available to ALL classes?" Ummm...yeah, I guess but let me just take a wild stab in the dark here. YOU never had to go through a metal detector at the door of your school. Sure, THAT kid who tries hard to do the best he can at home in a single-parent house can be the CEO of some corporation some day. Better yet, can get a UNIVERSITY degree that is not mailed to you! Phoenix Online! Rise from the ashes.

While I give you credit for quoting a personal favorite (but how much "whiter" of an old man can you GET? ) in the immortal Ted Knight, Spaulding, you are off your nut if you think that PDiddy has influence over the young. I guarantee that most don't even know the name nor what he ever sang. Corn Flakes...ha! Did you know that Kellogg's  almost went belly up due to labor disputes in Michigan? Union troubles. HAAAAA!!!!!! They almost cut that exact cereal because nobody was buying it nowadays.

Video games reflect society? Nice shot Mrs. Gore but that has been proven nonsense for decades. Half-Life? Hellraiser? Lego Indiana Jones? HAAA!! Sure. They all reflect society (in your mind).

My final note is that you, Sir, are a racist. Mr. Brown for security? Um...why? Communications left to a hispanic? What is next in your widget company? All Asians are accountants? HAAAAA!!!!!!  What am I? The guy who climbs the tree to get your coconut milk? HAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

I still stand by my honor of a legend. "I wouldn't be caught dead wearing that hat! Looks good on YOU though!" Hey, I think you would look good in one of those hats come to think of it! BWWWAHAAAHAHAHAAAA!!!

Who you calling old??? And don't give me that downtrodden, discrimmination crap! No one is "side-stepping anything! Class is certainly part of the equation but, if I may, that's life. I mean, in the words of the immortal Ted Knight, " The world needs ditch-diggers, too.."   HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And as for your "hypothetical" choices for CEO, I would choose the most qualified.  Now, I know that may be a kick in the corn flakes but that is how I see it. We could argue how or why said candidate got to be more qualified if you wish but that is really NOT the point. In fact, I might have Mr. Brown head up Security, Mr. de Vaca handle  Written Communications and Mr. Kennedy will deal with Government Relations...how's that?? HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The fact that video games are a reflection of our society is inescapable. That fact that there are the "few" and the "many" was and will be life LONG after you and I have left this earth. The fact the people like Oprah and "Diddy" are influencing our younger genreation and the legions of moronic housewives/husbands with nothing better to do exists. I advocate education because it remains the one constant that WILL improve lives. It WILL. And it remains available to ALL classes.

Well said, OLD WHITE MAN! BWWWAHAAAHAAAA!!!!!!  Masterful way of confusing the subject, sidestepping the topic of class and diluting the topic of education with some stereotypical nonsense you must have seen on TV about the "boyz from the hood!" Methinks you have been playing a little too much Grand Theft Auto. Best to go back to your baseball-themed video games. LOL!!!!

Yes, Bush is not stupid. He embodies everything you advocate in terms of "doing well in school, pulling yourself up by your bootstraps, yadda yadda." Yale, like Harvard, are certainly "exclusive." Exclusively for the children of privilege! LOL!!! Come on, take a picture while you are typing and tell me that you think Bush Jr. got into Yale because of his grades. I TRIPLE dog dare you!

Take THAT from a young(er) Mexican-American!  BTW, I know that neither the courts nor you like to deal with hypothetical situations but which candidate would you hire to the the CEO of YOUR widget company? Tyrone Brown, Pedro Jesús Cabeza de Vaca, or Robert Kennedy III?

Umm..perhaps it is better that we don't have "share croppers" running corporations?  HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pointing the finger at Bush is also very chic but also very specious. I do not want to get into the idiocy of the voting public so I will "let sleeping dogs lie", as it were. That our school system is "dismal" has every bit as much to do with the morons kids consider role models as it does poor schools. Yeah, it is "cool" to "pimp" and shoot people and steal cars and sell drugs for money because then you are "real" and "from the streets"....Riiiiiight.   AGAIN, I am only going to start a war by pointing out  the painfully obvious, so it is best to drop that part as well. But, just so we are clear, let me say that George Bush is NOT a "stupid" man. Not by a longshot! You may dislike him or even hate him but he is NOT stupid. On the contrary, he is rather savvy. Smart enough to do what he had to do and use the resources he has available to become the most powerful man on earth...TWICE. HOW he got those resources is irrelevant. He did what he did.

I am probably one of the few that can appreciate the fact that Harvard and the other schools are what you might consider "exclusive". From what I see being produced in our "society" and "school system", I am grateful that they are! There, I've said it. I can hear strat typing now! HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man, you guys type a lot!

I gotta jump in on that comment of "education." While not a CEO in the strict sense of the word, our beloved President went to FREAKIN' YALE! You think he became co-owner of the Rangers (pretty darn close to a CEO), Governor and Pres because he "applied himself" with hard work and dedication in school? HAAAA!!! No, wait, perhaps it was is exemplary military service.

Sorry but your comment about good grades in high school is even more laugabable. You haven't "checked" in a long time as our school systems are in a DISMAL condition. My own state of residence, Tennessee, is just about the worst. I won't even begin to comment on a poor inner-city Detroit school. I guarantee, even if you COULD get a decent education there, you would not get into a top-tier University much less have a fighting chance at a Master of Business degree at Harvard.

Nope, you are leaving social class out of the equation. It is not by mere chance that most CEOs (and politicians) are old white men.   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Deep Freeze from Friday, December 19, 2008 9:26:39 AM)

Perhaps as hard, but clearly not as well........
I am one of those "show me" guys. I have had SO many employees claim they could do this or do that. Right. When I do their evaluations, they always have excuses for their shortcomings. RARELY did one of them have a "plan". That makes a difference, man. Come to me with your problem but have a plan. This is taught in business schools around the country. Problems are many, solutions few. And if your plan does not work, be prepared to implement another. Always be looking to effect improvement or at least prepare to change direction. These are the qualities that make a good leader. The guy that has a plan and never gives up is the guy I want working for me.

I am not saying these people are always right. In fact, I have said over and over that they DO make mistakes. Unfortunately, their mistakes take on a much larger ripple effect by sheer enormity and connection to other areas. And I still do not have an answer for you regarding 68 million dollar bonuses! I am not arguing that they have help, MM. It would only make sense that they do. But these so-called "schmoes" are most often very gifted business leaders in their own right. AGAIN, they do not get THAT position by "luck" either!  And, in the corporate environment, it is absolutely vital that decisions are made via discussion and imput by highly trained professionals. Differing points of view are important when making some of these very big decisions that DO affect tens of thousands of lives and economies! NO doubt.

I have no idea HOW they arrived at a dollar amount for the bonuses you mention. Yes, it sounds incredibly excessive. I am not familiar with the contract so I do not know enough to say much. I am NOT arguing with you that it seems ridiculous. On  the surface, it certainly does. On the other hand, I have NO idea how it was set up. I have seen colleagues get HUGE bonuses in my professional life, man. I have received a few in my lifetime. Are they fair? To ME they were! I was asked to meet a series on goals, I did it and I was paid. Simple as that. That is a big reason that people seek out these positions in the first place. And getting there is not as simple as siging up, as strat might have us believe. I am very proud of the fact that I worked my ass off for YEARS both in school AND on the job to earn what I got. Did I have disappointments? Sure. Did I feel as though I should have got the promotion another guy did? Occasionally. But I did  not complain and accuse the "system" of holding me down. I stayed focused. Kept working towards that goal. DRIVE.
