@JD I would agree, no Sneap, Glenn on those 5 songs, subtle arpeggio work and slide work as well
[J.D. DIAMOND] Saturday, July 28, 2018 11:22:24 PM
@Vail yeah 100% no way Glenn or Rob would allow Andy playing a solo on the album,no way
so it's most likely Ritchie's solo. The 5 tracks in a row in the middle of the album are definitely
Glenn's solos in there,it's his signature style.

But the rest is too hard to figure out because some of Ritchie's solo style has a little Glenn
influence in there especially the 2nd half of the Firepower solo and especially the No Surrender
solo sounds exactly what Glenn would of done, but not in a bad way,it's understanding being
Ritchie had Glenn to learn from for the last 7 yesrs.

Glenn's 5 solos mentioned are incredible considering his Parkinson's. I wonder if he'll even
be able to play on a next album. Idk,doesn't matter if they ever make another album. Firepower
Redeemer Of Souls and Angel Of Retribution are 3 elite albums we have so I'm just Glad we even
get to have an incredible album in 2018.

I know this is a late response to this post, but Evil Never Dies is certainly a tricky one. On the studio track, the guitar tone for that first solo is different. Sounds more like Richie's to me. Why is Andy playing it live? Maybe it's one less solo for Richie to worry about? Don't forget, Richie is also playing some of Glenn's parts/solos on the majority of the classic songs in the setlist. One other possiblity is that it's a Glenn solo that Andy had to play in the studio himself...which makes me wonder as to just how recently this track was made. One of the last ones, maybe? Anyway. The big point? If there's going to be a Glenn solo, it's going to sound like it's coming from his guitar(s). He doesn't seem to be the type to have others play his solos for him, much less in a studio setting.

My two cents there.

@acolyte...

Perhaps Glenn is just on 5 tracks all in a row because those are 100% Glenn:

#5. Necromancer -------------2nd trade off solos for sure
#6. Children Of The Sun ---2nd solo right before: "Mountains Start to crumble"....
#7. Guardians ------------------Both
#8. Rising from Ruins ------2nd solo
#9. Flame Thrower ----------2nd solo

The rest Ritchie? One thing that they could do differently would be
not to over lay the next part of the solo over the top of a finishing
one like in the title track Firepower Ritchie plays this entire solo
not only live but before they went on tour there was a video of him
playing it along with the studio version is what is heard.

On the audio it sounds like of course Ritchie when the solo hits but
You can hear the next part of the solo sliding down into the part that
finishes the solo... when I first heard this I thought Glenn kicked in
with his solo to finish but it is definitely Ritchie.

Either way still Glenn rips out 5 solos on this record for sure and
Ritchie's solo' s are outstanding to say the least. Glenn had so much
more input to the song writing and structure of those tracks.

Will do JD, I will have another listen and post here-Acolyte
[J.D. DIAMOND] Wednesday, July 25, 2018 5:05:51 PM
Ok so I was dead wrong on the solo to No Surrender,I thought it sounded
like Glenn for the life of me,but the video proves it's Ritchie.

Now... the solos:

Firepower --------------- Ritchie
Lightning Strike -------Ritchie
Evil Never Dies ---------first solo GLENN second Ritchie
Never The Heros------- I did say Glenn, but changing to Ritchie
Necromancer ---------- trade offs: Ritchie/Glenn/Ritchie/Glenn
Children Of The Sun ---first solo Ritchie second Glenn
Guardians -----------------Both
Rising from Ruins ------first solo Ritchie second Glenn
Flame Thrower ----------first solo Ritchie second Glenn
Spectre ---------------------Ritchie
Traitors's Gate -----------Ritchie
No Surrender -------------Ritchie
Lone Wolf ------------------Ritchie
Sea Of Red ----------------Glenn then Ritchie

Where am I wrong now if I am?

I know the first solo in Evil Never Dies has a guitar wha effect Ritchie
uses alot but live Andy plays this part....if it's Ritchie then why would
Andy play his solo? Leads me to think it's Glenn.

Guido? Head Banger? Acolyte? Vail? Nupe?

What do you think...help me figure out Glenn's solos

@JD it is certainly a pleasant surprise as an Album, and if it ended up being their swang song, I could live with that, but I am hoping for 1 more trip around the world and have listened to them in 5 different decades, As Acoylte
[J.D. DIAMOND] Sunday, July 22, 2018 5:36:55 PM
@vail... love that picture! @vail,guido,Head Banger, acolyte,Nupe, and everyone else
I've also been listening to Firepower everyday since it's release and by now nearing 5
months since it's release coming up(August 9th) I'm not caught up in the moment now
when I say this again... and it's MY personally ligit 100% from the heart opinion about
the album which I don't expect anyone to have to agree with me of course not etc....

But in my opinion Firepower is EQUAL to any Classic Priest album there is. If Screaming
For Vengeance is Judas Priest's best album then Firepower is EQUAL to it. If Defenders
Of The Faith is Judas Priest's best record then Firepower is EQUAL to it. Sad Wings of Destiny
or Stained Class,British Steel or Painkiller or Angel Of Retribution... Firepower is EQUAL to it.

I'm also not saying Firepower is BETTER than the other elite albums which is to keep in mind
while I state my opinion.... not at all,I LOVE Screaming,Sad Wings,British Steel and DOTF .....
absolutely but I can't put them ahead of Firepower either....

I love every song on Firepower, all 14 are classic GEMS that many bands will cover in the future.
Lone Wolf is fuckin BAD ASS,Sea Of Red I love too,I know you didn't like this track Head Banger
but even if you skip this track and even Flame Thrower cause your not too thrilled with it,we all
can't like the same thing all the time it goes for me too,but even taking those 2 off the album the
11 tracks remaining STILL an incredible amount of songs to be this good across the board...shit
even take another track off...10 songs left is still an incredible amount of songs to be this good..

But I'm blown away on Firepower... It doesn't HAVE to have K.K. and Glenn's twin solos etc... the
solos the way they are structured here are BRILLIANT.

Guardians and Rising From Ruins the best masterpiece on the record and to me is as great as any Priest track ever written.

I never thought I'd ever say that an album this far into thier career can be equal to any Classic Priest album,it just blows me away. I also can see why Head Banger can see A.O.R. as equal.... in my opinion
Judas Rising,Demonizer and Hell Rider are 3 of Priest's best tracks top 15 for sure.

It's all opinions of course but yes Firepower is a masterpiece that has blown my mind and I also
think Ritchie Faulkner IS equal to K.K. Downing in style, sound and importance to the band.

Hail Firepower!

As Acolyte - I miss KK in the band as the band it used to be however I think the band has grown and progressed without him, for the better IMO, everything just seems better now, sound, energy writing etc , great article JD
[J.D. DIAMOND] Tuesday, June 26, 2018 9:09:45 PM
Ian Hill interviewed at Hellfest France June 22nd was asked about his final thoughts on K.K. Downing's March 18' comment about how K.K. said he was "shocked and stunned" he wasn't asked back to the band to step into his original role as guitarist for Judas Priest and how he thought he made the right decision to step down because they did not call him back. A previous interview Ian said: We thought he'd be shocked and stunned "HAD" we called him back... and in this recent interview also posted on Blabbermouth.net Ian had this to say:

"I didn't know, really, where he was coming from with that comment," Hill said (see video below). "I think he just played a bit of mischief, to be honest. I mean, Ken's place in the band has already been taken; he's sitting right there [referring to current PRIEST guitarist Richie Faulkner, who was also taking part in the press conference, alongside drummer Scott Travis]. It's also two albums down the road since 'Nostradamus', which is the last one he played on, and is he gonna be prepared to play music from the new album, which he probably would not. And on top of that, he's gonna have to learn Glenn's parts too.

So it's all reasons why we didn't [ask him to return]. Apart from that, he's been retired for nearly eight years. He hasn't since set foot on stage as far as I know, so he's hardly at the peak of his game at the moment. So, yeah, I wasn't quite sure where he was coming from with that — I really don't. I think it might have been just [him playing] a bit of mischief." End of subject.

Fuckin A man there is nothing that would be more cool than seeing K.K. and Ritchie AND Glenn all in Priest with "K.K.'s HEART AND SOUL INTO THE BAND "what a fantasy. But the reality is K.K. obviously isn't into this band....

Perhaps if they fired Ritchie, replaced him with K.K. and Keep Andy and play material from Rocka Rolla to Nostradamous. Idk it just seems like a far cry to expect Rob,Glenn,Ian & Scott to fire Ritchie so K.K. could "step back into his original role as guitarist for Judas Priest" as he put it. I couldn't see them performing Firepower live with K.K.'s version guitar solos of Ritchie's?

If that happened and called him back what are they gonna do,scrap playing Firepower tracks? I do love K.K. as he is always on our albums to listen to,but I do NOT miss him in Judas Priest. I just don't. I actually like Ritchie equally as I do K.K.

Redeemer Of Souls and Firepower are 2 of Judas Priest's elite best records and Ritchie seems like he's always been in Judas Priest. Glenn was right....finding Ritchie was a MIRICLE for Judas Priest.

TRUE! No amount of roundhouse kicks can make a person's face melt off like Rob's vocals can.
