Thanks, all. Good to be there, good to be home. Shame that pictures can't fully capture reality like my first JP shot (I was WAY out on the highest rock after a 2mile+ hike to almost fall to my death...hey, I would have tried to throw the camera back up on the way to my watery grave! LOL!) or the beauty of hiking the volcano.
Worst part? The flight! Sitting on the tarmac for hours (total) while waiting for planes to leave our gate, no food, bag charges. etc. I flew American and found it funny that they now recognize that it takes longer to load planes as more people are bringing two carry-on bags. Brilliant observation. What the heck is going on with the aviation companies?

Maui from 100 ft down - off Lanai. Cathedral 2 dive site for those who scuba (Nitrox dive!).
To hiking the tallest point past Kihei (hightest rock as well).
Rainbow falling on a sailboat between Kihei and Lahaina (almost had accidents as EVERYONE saw it and wanted to pull off a two-laner going up a cliff to get a pic).
Hiking the volcano, Haleakala. Nice view on the 4.2 mile hike down (you can see the trail WAY below).
Who can see the roaming JP cross? Heading down to the crater / valley WAY down below the 10,000+ ft summit.
Always remember that hiking down is the easy part. After a double-tank dive the previous day, I was sucking air like crazy trying to beat the weather out of there. 4.2 miles down ISN'T 4.2 miles back up! Especially with the tradewind clouds bringing in rain rolling in very quickly.
Same shot as the beginning descent with me barely making it out from the lower clouds. The trail is still there to the right. Valley is completely in white-out conditions.
Finally, sunset at 10,000+ ft summit.
Odd phenomenon happens at the summit. Read all about it. With the sun to your back and with luck, you can see your own shadow in a rainbow! Cannot see anyone else's but your own. I stood with my legs apart and held the camera (and in the left hand my JP cross) in the other to make sure it was me. No doubt. Old Hawaiians thought it was a divine sign and vision of their soul. Amazing. A picture doesn't come close to capturing the beauty of the clouds that have now taken over the valley of the volcano.
What luck, a second rainbow formed around the first! Too bad the Priest cross was too small to be seen in the clouds below. THAT would have been a shot. Standing in the same place with both JP necklace and camera over my head with legs spread apart to make sure it was me. Incredible! Simply could not see the guy standing right next to me if I tried. Clouds are taking over the summit. Incredible.
