Actually the Hamburger was created in Hamburg - hence the name....

Ah yes, the hamburger. All American, is it not? I think almost everyone in this country has a story about the best hamburger they ever had. I remember a place I went to while I was in college. Tiny little shack that had a grill and a small 'fridge. That's it! my GOD, the burgers were incredible!!!!
[Necroticist] Sunday, October 12, 2008 10:22:55 AM
Ah - that helped...u get several kinds of sausage here now tho...is all good fer street food...lol (cannae say as much fer the burger content tho...)

HA!! Excellent, Ron! I actually remember something about them originally being called hot links but I could be wrong. I do know that I absolutely love them. Always have. I buy the Hebrew National brand because they are bigger and meatier than cheap ones. I really love them and you are SO right about the hotdogs at the ballpark. I have no idea why but there is nothing like them. Nothing. I also saw somewhere that they are made differently depending on what part of the country in which they are being sold. different seasonings.

[ron h] Sunday, October 12, 2008 10:16:41 AM

ok...here's the scoop...frankfurters were created in Germany...however, they were made out of pork only...in 1870, Charles Feltman, a German immigrant, sold sausages in rolls on Coney Island...in 1880, Antonoine Feuchtnanger, also a German immigrant, sold 'hot dogs' in 'buns' ...customers would walk away with the 'white gloves' she would let them use to hold the hot dog with as they were too hot...and that was her response to that...

[Deep Freeze] Sunday, October 12, 2008 10:00:59 AM
Yes Necro. That is how I remember it as well.
[Necroticist] Sunday, October 12, 2008 9:59:27 AM
a Frankfurter was the original hot-dog as i recall - i may be wrong.....so that makes it German...

[Deep Freeze] Sunday, October 12, 2008 9:51:05 AM
It is very difficult for people outside of the US to really understand what a hotdog, especially from a baseball park, really means to an American. Although they did originate in Germany (I believe), they are part of the American culture. Like Lana said, memories. I used to take my daughter to the Dodger games when she was little. She is a grown woman with children now and does not care for baseball, but I can tell you she always talks about the food we had.
[lalouve] Sunday, October 12, 2008 9:47:37 AM
Okayyyyyy Thanks gang ! We definitely don't have that here. I wonder if I'll get a chance to try one some day..... Oh well, I've got a good imagination lol

BUT...NOT JUST ANY HOT DOG...the kind of hot dog lanas talking about...you can only get if you go to a real baseball stadium...no other dog like it in the world...people who don't nrmally eat hot dogs (like me) eat dogs at the ball park...

I did not know that, Necro! My family owned two small restaurants on the coast in California for about 40 years. It is in my blood! I would LOVE to get a couple traditional English dishes from you. Something you would not generally find in the states, you know?

Thanks Ron, I would if I could, but I don't think we can find that in my part of the world, although there are a few places we can find peanut butter. But weird ones ... I'll let you know if I get my hands on it though lol
