Scorpions Hard At Work For New Album

Vocalist Klaus Meine of German hard rock legends SCORPIONS has issued the following update:

"Dear fans, the last few months on the road just flew by — and as always, it was fantastic and exciting to play for you. But now we are back in our studio in Hannover with our Swedish producers Mikael 'Nord' [Andersson] and Martin Hansen [the team behind THE RASMUS' "Dead Letters" CD] to work on our new album. We have a lot of new songs and are very much looking forward to the creative time ahead of us. Hopefully, when this time comes to an end, we will be able to present another awesome album that rocks and finds a place in your heart. If everything goes as planned, our new album will be released to the public spring of 2010.

"There's more: This October, the world wide release of our new DVD, 'Amazonia –Life in the Jungle!' will be heading your way."

Added guitarist Rudolf Schenker: "It is such a great feeling to be back in the studio and creating something new and genuine. As early as the first recording day with my bandmates, I realized pure creativity is in the air. I am sure that our new album will surprise all our fans. We are up to something big, so let your curiosity get the best of you!"

Stated guitarist Matthias Jabs: "Now that our 'Humanity World Tour' is over and we toured the world twice very successfully, it is time to record new songs, to write new songs — songs that come from the heart and relate to our fans' emotions around the world. I am very excited about recording our new album with lots of energy and feeling. As always though, the bar is set very high, especially as I like to measure it with our albums 'Blackout' and 'Love at First Sting'."

SCORPIONS recently extended their record deal with Ariola, which is part of the international media conglomerate Sony BMG Music Entertainment.

The band's latest CD, "Humanity - Hour 1", was produced by James Michael and co-produced by songwriter/producer Desmond Child, who has worked with such high-profile pop/rock artists as AEROSMITH, BON JOVI, ALICE COOPER, KISS, RICKY MARTIN, CHER, MICHAEL BOLTON and BONNIE TYLER.

The Best Buy edition of "Humanity - Hour 1" includes an exclusive track, "Cold". "Cold" was previously included on the Japanese pressing of the CD along with another bonus cut, a radio edit of "Love Will Keep Us Alive".

Rudolf Schenker will release his official German-language autobiography, "Rock Your Life", in Germany on October 14. An English-language version is also planned. More details will be revealed soon.

An 18-minute interview with SCORPIONS frontman Klaus Meine conducted by the band's webmaster Wolfgang Strauß on January 10, 2009 in Cologne, Germany can be viewed below.

Quite the epic tour, though I did comment on Blabbermouth.net that it would be truly epic if Kreator, Exodus, Overkill and Warbringer were also on the bill. Hey why not make it two stages? Overkill heads the starting stage with the last group mentioned, but the "Big Four" will be a challege to say the least to headline. Personally I vote Megadeth.

New Slayer Album Releasing November 3rd

California thrash metal veterans SLAYER will release their new album, "World Painted Blood", in the U.S. on November 3 (one day earlier internationally) via American Recordings/Columbia Records.

The final track listing for the CD is as follows:

01. World Painted Blood
02. Unit 731
03. Snuff
04. Beauty Through Order
05. Hate Worldwide
06. Public Display Of Dismemberment
07. Human Strain
08. Americon
09. Psychopathy Red
10. Playing With Dolls
11. Not Of This God

"As we're so excited about 'World Painted Blood'," said the band's drummer, Dave Lombardo, "we wanted to do something special for the packaging, and have been working with some really cool ideas. They've taken time to get just right, and with our headlining the Mayhem tour for most of the summer, it's just taken that much longer to get all these great ideas exactly the way we want them."

There will be three different editions of "World Painted Blood" —a limited-edition CD with multiple CD covers, a deluxe edition CD/DVD, and a high-quality, 180-gram vinyl edition; specifics for all editions will be detailed shortly.

"We hope our fans will like everything about 'World Painted Blood' as much as we do," Lombardo continued. "Recording this new album has been one of the greatest experiences we've had as a band. We were together during the writing process more than we had been for past albums, we worked more collectively, everyone's suggestions and ideas were heard and considered, and that camaraderie is definitely heard in the new album."

Former Metal Edge editor-in-chief Phil Freeman has written the first track-by-track review of "World Painted Blood" for MSN Music's Heavy Metal Superfan site. After describing each of the album's 11 tracks in detail, he concludes: "A lot of people say SLAYER hasn't really been great since 'Seasons in the Abyss'. Those people are wrong. The Paul Bostaph years had a lot to recommend them ('Diabolus in Musica' is a seriously underrated album), and 'Christ Illusion' showed that SLAYER could experiment with dissonance and melody, and kick their own playing and songwriting up a notch when they wanted to. The bandmembers have given a lot of interviews talking about how a lot of this album was written in the studio. Listening to it, you can't tell. That's really impressive. Much the way METALLICA's 'Death Magnetic' combined the thrash of their early years with the hard-rock grooves of their 1990s work, 'World Painted Blood' builds on the success of every SLAYER album before it. It's not a legacy-polishing effort; it's the next step in a still-ongoing journey. Highly recommended."

Read the entire review at this location.

SLAYER recently made another track from "World Painted Blood" available for streaming at Hot Topic's ShockHound.com web site. The limited-edition single, a Kerry King composition, is titled "Hate Worldwide", and is available exclusively as a CD-single at Hot Topic stores.

"It's a really cool track, and Tom's voice sounds incredible on it," said King. "The last line in the song's chorus is '..spread a little hate worldwide,' and that's what we've been doing for 25 years."

"World Painted Blood" was recorded in Los Angeles over two time periods, during October 2008 and then between late January and March 2009. The CD was produced by Greg Fidelman, who's spent time in the studio with METALLICA, THE GOSSIP, THE (INTERNATIONAL) NOISE CONSPIRACY, SLIPKNOT and others, and executive-produced by longtime SLAYER colleague Rick Rubin, who suggested Fidelman for the project.

SLAYERAraya, guitarists King and Jeff Hanneman, and Lombardo — recently co-headlined the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival with MARILYN MANSON, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, and BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, among others.

Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer & Anthrax to Tour?

SLAYER guitarist Kerry King has told U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine that he has heard through the grapevine that METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich is plotting a tour that would include METALLICA, MEGADETH, SLAYER and ANTHRAX.

Should this tour materialize, this would be the first time that the so-called "Big Four" of thrash have toured together as part of the same bill. MEGADETH, SLAYER and ANTHRAX were joined by opening act ALICE IN CHAINS for the U.S. Clash Of The Titans tour in 1991, while METALLICA and MEGADETH last shared a U.K. stage at Milton Keynes Bowl in 1993.

In an interview conducted yesterday (Wednesday, September 2) in London, Metal Hammer asked Kerry if there had been a temptation to bring the co-headline tour that SLAYER are about to embark on with MEGADETH in Australia and Canada to U.K. shores.

"I think it would be cool but I knew we had this planned before all of this MEGADETH stuff started happening," said King. "They're going to Australia with us, they're going to Canada again with us. I think it would be cool for the European fans to bring that over here because, shit, we didn't even consider playing with those guys since 1990."

So could it be possible that we could get a tour that includes the "Big Four?"

"I've heard people referencing Lars," said King. "I don't know Lars that well and I haven't heard it from Lars, but apparently he's talking to somebody about it. Maybe us, METALLICA, MEGADETH (and), I think he even threw in ANTHRAX and I said in this day and age, I know we had that time together, but how do you leave out MACHINE HEAD? There's better options than ANTHRAX and that's nothing against ANTHRAX, but they've just been in pieces for quite some time and that doesn't make as much sense to me."

If you really want a authentic experience of what the British Steel '80 tour was like, go see the August 22nd show at Merriweather Post because Kix is opening for JP again! Kix originally went by the rather bland band name of Shooze, and as Shooze, they opened for JP during their BS tour in Maryland!  The only piece of the puzzle missing is to now get Iron Maiden to play 2nd on the bill, and you will then have the original British Steel show lineup that played in Maryland in 1980.
Deja Vu all over again!

That is so true what Halford said about how the internet kinda ruined the suprise and some of the
excitment ect..ect..ect.  Whats also true I may add,is how the internet ruined "black metal" as well.

I believe KIX is for only the 22nd, not the rest of the tour...
[doggiedogma] Sunday, August 16, 2009 9:29:28 AM
Well, I actually like Kix more then Whitesnake so I'm glad JP was able top get them to replace Whitesnake, but I still would rather have JP either play a longer set or offer partial refunds for those of us who have already bought tix; Aerosmith has offered refunds to those who have purchased tix to see ZZTop and them, and JP should do the same thing, or maybe Whitesnake should offer refunds (someone should!).

Arielle Castillo of the Miami New Times recently conducted an interview with
JUDAS PRIEST frontman Rob Halford. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow
below.

Miami New Times: When you decided to [play "British Steel" in its entirety on
the current tour], did you worry that playing one album in order would eliminate
some element of surprise for the audience?

Halford: It's impossible to have a complete surprise now, isn't it?
Unfortunately, that's the way of the world. Everybody's Twittering while they
eat their lunch and while they're sitting in the movie theater, so it's a shame
really. But I also wouldn't deny the excitement that this kind of instant
connection can create. Because you know, no matter how you explain to a fan that
you've seen the pre-show, or seen clips from YouTube or whatever, you can't
really fully understand or experience the true moment until you're there in
person. It's like watching a movie of the Grand Canyon. It's great, but you
cannot understand what it means until you are standing at the rim staring at the
vastness. I think that's true of this particular show. But I agree with you, you
know. When the Internet was going mainstream, we discussed that. Because coming
from that time of our life, there was the excitement of, "Oh, there's a new LP
coming from PRIEST!" You'd put the
vinyl on your turntable, and that was the only way you could experience it. You
couldn't snag it off the Internet or get an illegal download or a video clip. So
there was a mystery of how [a band] would do it onstage. And to a certain
extent, that's gone now. But it's today's world, you have to accept it. It's all
about living in the moment, and the only way you can live in the moment for a
PRIEST show is to come and see us.

Miami New Times: Why did you choose to film your live DVD at the date here in
South Florida? Was it just a scheduling thing?

Halford: It's a combination of a lot of things. We've been coming back and forth
to Florida since the early '80s. We made two or three records in Miami at
Bayshore Sound, which is no longer there. So we spent many years in the Miami
area, especially in Coconut Grove and Key Biscayne, so we have many memories
from South Florida. The fans are crazy down there -- the metal heads go insane.

Miami New Times: Really? You find that South Florida metal audiences in
particular are really that crazy?

Halford: There's just a very special feeling from the Florida metal heads that
we want to capture. So here's a chance for all the Florida metal heads to become
famous, because the cameras will be pointing on them throughout the night, as
well as on the band. We're very excited that we're going to be making this film,
this full show in Hollywood.

Miami New Times: Between working on your last studio album, "Nostradamus", which
seemed like such an epic project, and celebrating "British Steel", have you had
a chance at all to think about writing new material for the future?

Halford: We don't really.... Here's the deal. At the end of this tour, which
finishes when we come back from Japan in October, we'll have been touring the
world for 18 months. We will have traveled hundreds of thousands of miles, and
we'll have just gotten back to our respective homes, and we'll stop moving. And
then we'll take a break through the holiday season. And then one of us will pick
up the phone, probably the writers of the band, Glenn [Tipton] and Ken [K.K.
Downing] and myself — to say, "Hey what's going on? Should we start making
some more metal?" And that'll be the plan from next year. But I don't know when
that's all going to take place. The thing is that we love what we do, and we
still have all the passion and the energy and the drive as we did three decades
ago. This is our life! We make these wonderful records, tour the world, and then
take a little bit of a break. That's built into our system. Come January, we'll
start to feel edgy
and antsy. So [working on new material will] happen next year. We don't know
what it's going to be, what it's going to sound like. Being in PRIEST is very
real, it's not pre-programmed or anything. But it's wonderful to think that at
some point there will be a new JUDAS PRIEST record.

I thought so too HRMG.  Then I remembered Ian having a house in Florida (in that area if memory serves), which had me thinking how comfortable it would be for them to play in a setting so familiar even though it would be the 3rd night out.

I wish I had the cash available to have flown to a venue up north ... But truth be told, the show they played here in Corpus had to be the ultimate hell for them with all the humidity, heat, and it being the last in a string.  But they pulled it off!  I think they'll be just fine ...

Audience response and support will be the determining factor in this one ; )  Do we have any idea, is there a mention of the DVD's release anywhere?

Some very tragic Rock n' Roll news.
Guitar Legend LES PAUL Dies At 94 - Aug. 13, 2009
CNN.com reports: Les Paul, whose innovations with the electric guitar and studio technology made him one of the most important figures in recorded music, has died, according to a statement from his publicists. Paul was 94.

Les Paul, whose innovations helped give rise to modern pop music, played guitar into his 90s.

Paul died in White Plains, New York, from complications of severe pneumonia, according to the statement.

Paul was a guitar and electronics mastermind whose creations — such as multitrack recording, tape delay and the solid-body guitar that bears his name, the Gibson Les Paul — helped give rise to modern popular music, including rock 'n' roll.

I agree with Guido though, Rob's voice is always better after a day or two of rest, so I don't know why they would pick a date that is the third show in a row. Ian lived in Florida with his second wife, I think it was back in the late 80s. This venue probably has a great set-up for filming would be my bet. I guess we will all see soon enough.

I wish Dave all the best!! He sounded really good when we saw them. I really hate to see this happen to singers.

Ouch, seems like David Coverdale's condition worsened.

WHITESNAKE Officially Drops Off JUDAS PRIEST Tour - Aug. 12, 2009
WHITESNAKE has released the following statement:

"Unfortunately, last night [August 11] at the Red Rocks Amphitheater, Denver, WHITESNAKE had to cut their performance short due to Mr. [David] Coverdale experiencing considerable pain in his vocal cords. He was immediately taken to a specialist for examination. The specialist discovered that David was suffering from severe vocal fold edema and a left vocal fold vascular lesion. He was instructed to cancel all performances for the next two weeks and then undergo a further examination. The doctors told us we were fortunate this was caught at a stage where no apparent permanent damage has been caused. We therefore regretfully have to announce that WHITESNAKE will not be appearing on the remainder of the U.S. tour with JUDAS PRIEST. WHITESNAKE sincerely regrets any disappointment this may cause."

WHITESNAKE and JUDAS PRIEST previously toured together in South America during 2005 to great critical and commercial success and maintain a great friendship.

WHITESNAKE's appearance at U.K.'s Download festival in June coincided with action-packed re-releases of the multi-platinum albums "Slip Of The Tongue", marking its 20th anniversary, and "Slide It In", which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.

WHITESNAKE's June 14 show at Download marked the fourth time the band has performed at Donington Park (previous appearances took place in 1981, 1983 and 1990).

Fan-filmed video footage of WHITESNAKE's June 7, 2009 concert at Ancienne Belgique in Brussels, Belgium can be viewed below.

GameDaily.com has revealed the complete track listing for the Brütal Legend
video game, whcih will be available for the Xbox 360 video game and
entertainment system and the PlayStation computer entertainment system on
October 13 in North America and on October 16 in Europe.

"This soundtrack took years to put together as we wanted to represent every
genre of metal, and also have the perfect music for every epic moment in the
game," Tim Schafer, president of Double Fine Productions development studio,
tells GameDaily.com. "It's designed to be loved by metal fans, and for those who
are not, it will either convert them or make their heads explode ... or both."

"What can I say?," Emily Ridgeway, Brütal Legend's music director, adds. "It's
metal. It's the best. It'll kick your fucking teeth in."

Brütal Legend is a third-person action game rich in combat, imagery and
storytelling, delivering lighter-flicking fun sure to melt your face off.

Brütal Legend tells the tale of Eddie Riggs, played by Jack Black. The ultimate
roadie, Eddie is the first person anyone calls when they need guitars tuned or
stages rigged, and has a love for hot rods and a photographic memory for every
heavy metal album cover, and the lyrics those albums contained. One night, a
stage accident knocks Eddie unconscious, and he awakens in a world that looks
very strange yet oddly familiar, a world where every heavy metal album cover and
lyric Eddie knows has come to life, and where the evil emperor Doviculus and his
demon army, The Tainted Coil, have enslaved the last remaining humans. When an
oppressed people request Eddie's knowledge of modern warfare, he pulls from his
own experience in the only occupation he's ever had, a roadie for a heavy metal
band, and under his command, this barbaric force of hot-rods, Marshall stacks,
leather, and chrome will bring this ancient world into the age of metal.

My comments still stand ; )

Interestingly enough were his comments about the album Nostradamus as a musical piece.  Loved the end best - close the interview with a song he shines on ... The Rage!
To all, definitely give the interview a listen

Hey, thanks for posting the interview JD!

Haven't listened to it yet.  But I could imagine that Ian simply couldn't believe someone would actually do that, firstly because Ian is a humble person about all this and secondly ... well, let me give it a listen!

As a fan, I'm in AWE that Jim enjoyed it so much and didn't let the other fans who laughed at his devotion to the music get him down
