Hey, not just shoes....I expanded to the larger part of shoes, sandals and underwear! HAAAAAAA!!!!! (I should make a "support group" comment there but I'll adhere to public DECORUM!).

LOL!!  A support group for changing shoes?
You sound like me and the way I feel about my perfume. I have worn the same brand for years and have decided that I'm croak long about age 90 when I go into a store to get a new bottle and discover they have quit making it!

Nah, I have them both. Still wear them around the house and, yes, you have seen this pic before.

Still....big move for me to try new ones. I think I need a support group.....

Seems I've seen those before! I forgot about the pair the dog ate. Well, they're essentially still "functional" good for around the house maybe? Or is this all that is left of the pair?

No. You are trying to imagine a guy who has been wearing a great promo sandal given to me after a race by an insole company and then destroyed by shoe muncher!

To paraphrase the sage Inspector Clouseau (NEVER Steve Martin...argh): "Swine hound!"

Let me get this straight. You couldn't find a pair of those summer shoes that look like you took a straw hat and made a pair of shoes out of them? My uncle Val used to wear those all the time, only he wore them with dark socks! Are those the shoes I'm to envision here?

Ok, back from the big city and I have mixed feelings. A big moment in my life. I bought new flip-flops. Well, "slides" actually, as I burned the hell out of my toes walking the dogs in my real Havaianas (ho ho...you'll love that DF!) the other night. I don't know. $14.99 instead of $9.99? Turmoil.

I think that there should be a rule that neither underwear, socks or shoes should ever stop being offered by the manufacturer. Who will support me in my grass-roots movement?!? ARRRRRRIBA.

Hello dwellers of the Blah thread

I got my car back! So you have a sort of happy Joe lol.

On the other hand, my son has a fever of 40C (not sure what that is in F but it's in danger levels). I'm a tad concerned because SA and in particular our town has been hit pretty hard with Swine Flu. My children have good immune systems and are generally healthy but they have both been ill lately. Zakk is also complaining about sensitive eyes so I'm watching him like a hawk and giving meds to keep his temp down but it is not a nice time as far as child health goes. I am stressed but also doing my best to remain optamistic.

A fine morning to you. Nice, warm weekend here. Only 101 so it is "cool" by Vegas standards. Cooked up a GREAT steak on the grill last night and added a lobster tail. OH MAN!!! That was one great meal. Anyhoo, going to "rub" a half rack of baby backs and watch a little baseball. Still have more music to work on so I should stay busy.

Interesting comments HB.

And Spa, you've hit on something important as well.  We're not all gonna gravitate to the same people.  It is out of mutual respect that we welcome newcomers.  As they become more involved in the community (such that it is here in the IWeb), we tend to find we either relate better to familiar members, keep our association more social and relate with all, or remain somewhat guarded and keep to ourselves.  It is what it is ... even in real life ; )

It is my experience that tells me the one constant and magic of life is change!  That being the case, I tend to keep to myself here as I am someone that enjoys tangible relationships.  The handful of friends that I've made and maintain to this day, are with folks I've either met, email constantly, or have talked to on the phone.  But that just me ... that's who and how I am ; )

So forgive me if I seem a little aloof.  I like familarity.  I'll warm up to you eventually, or maybe never - lol  ... everyone should simply be who they are.
[I.M.P.] Thursday, August 13, 2009 9:25:37 PM
What a post.  You've hit on something, Head banger.
We are who we are.  Not only is our vision colored by our experiences, but also is everyone around's "exterior" colored by their own experiences.  It is kind of difficult to see the "real" picture at times, but hey, this is life.  It'd be boring otherwise.  And if things aren't hard enough, there are those of us who don't know who we are, like you mention about the gay man who marries...  Really is a bit to think about there.  Is this the reason you're behind, HB?

Yeah, the switching of names that still goes on bothers me, and I think it's dumb to have all those puppet accounts-but who am I to say anything, really!  It was fun, but in reality this kind of thing is destructive for the community that we have here...

Nice comment HB.
I am, I'm me!
Love me or hate me. I'm just me. Then that calls into question, who am I.
Very simple answer. I'm a single mother of one, doing the best I can in this world with a passion for metal, who sometimes gets pissed about somethings going on here, but in general I'm pretty easy going. Been much more easy going lately since I no longer get attacked here. A wonderful thing. Would love to get along with all, but as you said some brand my opinions as offensive to them and even judge who I choose to talk to, but that is their problem not mine.
I am, I'm me.

How well do we know each other?

Recently there were questions about how well one member knowing who another was.  Really, how well do any of us know each other?  I for example have met 2 board members, but do they really know me?  I have 177 friends on the board, do they know me?  Some better than others, but who really knows another member.  Even in the “real” world people can be close to someone for years, but not know them.  You read about people getting divorced after 20 years because the wife discovers the husband is gay.  People discover for that they don’t know themselves, how can you know another.

A few years ago our good friend IMP discovered how to change his name to match another member.  Now he did it just to be funny, I remember reading an exchange between DF and “DF” which was funny as all get out.  Now we have JD. and J.D. which is not so funny, but at least it’s identifiable.  People use different names to act like scumbags, but we can usually figure scumbags out.  But even those we “know”, do we really know them?  I have made over 20,000 posts on these boards, and god help you if you had to read them all, but does that lead you to know me?  Ask 10 different members, you would get 10 different versions.  You could hear that I am a nice guy, a hateful capitalistic bastard, a nature lover or an enviro hater who wants to pave the world, a family man, or some pervert posting in the thong thread.  Which is right?  None of them.  Want to simplify it more?  I could be a good person or a bad person.  Which is it?  Neither!  I am who I am, nothing more.

The people we “know” are colored by our experiences.  What can we do?  Well, once we recognize that we cant “know” people here, our only option is to do the best we can.  Which of course is what we were doing before.  But the real question is, not who am I, but who are you?

[Head banger] Thursday, August 13, 2009 8:49:21 PM
