Las Vegas Review-Journal has issued a new interview with JUDAS PRIEST frontman
ROB HALFORD. The following is an excerpt:

"It was a meshing of a lot of things, wasn't it?" Halford says of the impact
that British Steel had on the popularization of metal. "We'd been around the
world a couple of times and we'd made our mark. We'd talked to the press and
we'd talked to radio, and everybody was aware of this growing development of
this specific type of sound in rock 'n' roll called 'metal,' and it was gaining
a foothold at a remarkable speed.

"It was as though everybody was waiting for something new to happen," he
continues, "much like some of the things we've seen since that time, with the
Seattle scene and bands like NIRVANA and more recently, with bands like LINKIN
PARK. All of these things happen as they need to in rock 'n' roll, to keep
things fresh and new. That was definitely the vibe that was surrounding British
Steel. Looking back, you see everybody coming together and saying, 'Yeah, this
is for me. This is my music for my generation. I am now officially a metalhead
because I've found a music that belongs to me.' And the movement suddenly
started to swell and grow."

I have your fix, Hellrider. Two options: first is that I have converted it to MP3 and can find a way to get it to you. Disadvantage there is is that it is a pretty big file. Turns out to be some 17MB.

Second and easier for you would be to download the file and use some other media player to play it. To do this, go back to that link and RIGHT click on it (assuming you are using a PC). Hit the "save as..." and save it to your desktop. You should see it spend a little bit of time to download. If it goes in a second, you only downloaded the link (text) itself. Try again.

Assuming you downloaded the whole media file properly, you should find a file called "kk.wmv.wav" on your desktop. Now if you double-click on it and it doesn't work, you should download the best FREE media player on the market here: www.videolan.org/vlc/ It is small and installs in a heartbeat. Plays absolutely everything, audio and video. Once installed, open it and then file / open the kk interview. It should work like a charm.

Any trouble, PM me and I'll find a way to send along the converted MP3 version that I just made.

hellrider ... I looked for the interview with Jeb Wright of ClassicRockRevisited, on YouTube, and am having no luck, sorry ; (  It was a remote (via phone) interview aired on Jeb's radio show.  Maybe one of our techno gurus here on the board can help sort out the issue and get it online for you ; )  The questions ranged from how idea of touring the entire British Steel album came about  to What solo of Glenns did KK feel impressed him (or something like that) ... Of course, KK's response is priceless!  He said, after giving it some thought, "All of them!"  It's a little long but worth a listen!

Here's an interview with Rob from Rolling Stone magazine about a month ago.  I hadn't read it before now, maybe some of you haven't either...

When Rolling Stone rang Judas Priest's Rob Halford to discuss the group's upcoming live album, A Touch of Evil: Live (out July 14th), the leather-clad singer also discussed their classic British Steel LP — an album that will soon be celebrating its 30th anniversary. For their upcoming U.S. tour with Whitesnake, Priest will be performing the album in its entirety, and British Steel will be reissued next year with a DVD of live performances filmed on the upcoming tour. "It's a nostalgia trip for lots of reasons — where were you in 1980?" Halford says. The frontman also chatted about breaking through in America and the cult classic short film Heavy Metal Parking Lot.

What should we know about A Touch of Evil: Live?
I'm excited about it. It's a very powerful, strong, fierce record — in terms of the music and the intensity. We put together a list of songs that are extremely heavy. It really sends a message of determination and tenacity from the band all these years later.

With the group revisiting British Steel this summer, where was Priest at when you started work on the album?
It was a very interesting time for us. I've always believed that most times, the best material from any band is their first two releases. Priest is a little unusually different in that manner, because this was our sixth studio release. Suddenly, the band seemed to change shape, and you get a very distinctive moment coming from Priest, in terms of the way the songs were written and the production. We'd just come off the back of mixing Unleashed in the East, and we were on a schedule to release a full studio album. We were burning the candle at both ends, because we had some ideas, but we didn't have enough.

So quite a bit of the writing took place at a house that was the former home of John Lennon [Tittenhurst Park, in Ascot, Berkshire, England] — Ringo was living there at the time. There was a lot of stuff going on in the U.K. — socially/politically, it was in turmoil with the Thatcher government and the unions, street fights with coal miners and the police. It was a really volatile bit of a revolution around the late '70s. I think some of that went into my writing as a lyricist. If you listen to the words and messages on British Steel, it's full of that angst.

Did you meet any of the Beatles during the recording?
Ringo was in Barbados or Bermuda — he has a second house there — so we didn't see him. But the house was full of Lennon, as far as the white room he'd made "Imagine." That's the room where Glenn [Tipton] woke me up, because my bedroom was above that room, and Glenn was clanging out the chords to "Living After Midnight" at 4:00 in the morning. He woke me up, I came downstairs, and said, "Glenn, it seems like you're living after midnight down here." And he said, "That's a great title for this song!" It's full of memories like that — walking around the lake where Lennon was rowing across in that "Imagine" video. I always will be a Beatles fan. If you want to learn about writing a good song, listen to the Beatles. It's as simple as that.

At what point did you realize you'd come up with such a strong album?
30 years later [laughs]. We're so British in that way — we never take anything for granted. It's natural to feel good about what you've created, but you have no control over its fate or destiny. It's up to the masses to figure where it's going to stand. But looking at its value 30 years later, it's an important record for the genre of heavy metal.

What were audiences' initial reaction to "Breaking the Law" and "Living After Midnight"?
It was absolutely immediate. That riff in "Breaking the Law" is like our "Whole Lotta Love" or "Smoke on the Water." More exciting to us was how it was creating things in America, because we had been to America on a few tours. Suddenly, we had music that could be played on American rock radio. British Steel has a very strong American connection because of that.

Among Priest's earlier stateside shows was opening for Led Zeppelin in Oakland, on what would be their last two U.S. performances with John Bonham.
We had just come to the end of our first massive American tour. We were ready to go back home, and then we got a call from management that Robert Plant knew we were over here, and said, "We'd love Priest to open for Zeppelin." We had to park our carcasses in a Motel 6 for about a week, and wait for the moment to happen. Without a doubt, those two shows [at Oakland Stadium] helped break Priest on the West Coast. We went on very early in the morning, because it was a 4:00 p.m. curfew. When we went on, there was still a lot of that fog that you get in the Oakland/Bay Area. You could see a few thousand people on the floor. But while we were performing, the sun broke through, the fog lifted, and the place was absolutely full. It was mind-blowing.

And then Priest soon returned the favor to other up-and-coming bands.
We went out with Iron Maiden, Def Leppard. It's what you should do, no matter who you are or what music you play. We've all got a story to tell, and we're all on the same journey. We've all been through barely affording gas and sleeping in the van — that's part of your "apprenticeship."

Do you think Priest's audience is faithfully represented in Heavy Metal Parking Lot?
The camaraderie between the people in the parking lot and the things they're saying, it hasn't changed a lick. You go to any parking lot before a Priest show all these years later, and you'll still get that same kind of essence. That's what's special about metalheads; it's like the Marine Corps — once a metalhead, always a metalhead.

If someone wanted to be Rob Halford next Halloween, where's the best place to buy leather and studs?
[Laughs] There's a place called the Crypt in San Diego, which has all of your Halloween S&M needs...

George Varga of SignOnSanDiego.com recently conducted an interview with JUDAS
PRIEST frontman Rob Halford. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

On his Hillcrest, California apartment near Balboa Park, where he goes virtually
unnoticed:

"If I couldn't do that, I think I'd move somewhere else. I don't want to be a
recluse, but I need to be able to do what I want to do without being
'paparazzi-ed' to death. I need to be able to go to Ralphs and push my shopping
cart up and down the aisles. I've never been attracted to the rock star persona.
It's great if people want to think about the fantasy of what a rock star's life
is like, but I don't want that. . . Maybe it's my working-class roots. But it's
important I'm able to do my Ralphs and Ichibans (restaurant visits)."

On performing the "British Steel" album in its entirety at each concert on the
current tour:

"All I remember about making 'British Steel' is that we had a contractual
commitment to the record company to deliver the album on time. We'd just come
out of a mixing session (in the studio) at John Lennon's former residence (at
Tittenhurst Park), where Ringo (Starr) was living. We asked if we could write
and record the album there, and Ringo said: 'Go ahead, do it.'

"The bulk of 'British Steel' was written in that house. We didn't have time to
think. We were literally writing all day and night, and putting those ideas
together as quickly as possible. ... Dare I say, it was the album that brought
the band to a national level in America."

On feeling reconnected with "British Steel" as a whole after nearly a month of
performing the album live at shows:

"I was finding my way around it. Now, I'm immersed in it and it's an amazing
feeling. When you listen to the opening line of the first track, 'Rapid Fire'
— 'Pounding the world like a battering ram' — that just resonates in 2009.
The power of the music and the message in the lyrics absolutely still connects."

On thriving as the only openly gay member of a major metal band:

"I thought that whole Proposition 8 (anti-gay-marriage) thing was a crock.
Because we were hijacked by the religious fanatics, again. Why is marriage, by
definition, a religious experience? I don't think it is. It's a contract between
two people who love each other and want to show the world how they feel about
each other."

On the future:

"If I lost my voice, it would be pointless. Fortunately, my voice is still doing
the business, so I don't even think of retirement. Once you do, you start to
decompress, and you can't do that in rock 'n' roll. You have to keep the fires
burning.

"I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't do drugs. All I've got is my metal and
I'm happy with it."

JUDAS PRIEST: Florida Concert To Be Filmed For Upcoming DVD - July 28, 2009

www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx

British heavy metal legends JUDAS PRIEST will film their August 17, 2009 performance at the Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida for a DVD that will be included in a forthcoming expanded 30th-anniversary edition of their 1980 classic, "British Steel".

As they have done at all of their U.S. summer dates this year, PRIEST will perform the "British Steel" album in its entirety at the Seminole Hard Rock Arena.

Tickets for this show are now on sale via Ticketmaster.com.

Fan-filmed video footage of JUDAS PRIEST's July 21, 2009 performance at the PNC Pavilion in Cincinnati, Ohio can be viewed below (courtesy of "ToxMetal").

JUDAS PRIEST kicked off its "British Steel" 30th-anniversary tour on June 29 at the Murat Theatre in Indianapolis, Indiana. Vocalist Rob Halford recently told Noisecreep, "It's like suddenly, thirty years have come upon us and we're about to celebrate. The album's technical anniversary is April of next year, but want to start the party early."

Halford added, "In today's economy, all artists have to think of something to do differently. We decided that this would be a great opportunity to do something that PRIEST has never done before, which is to play an album in its entirety. The band and the name 'JUDAS PRIEST' have both been around since 1969, so it is our fortieth anniversary, too. We seem to be in a constant celebration mode!"

Along with 1982's "Screaming for Vengeance" and 1990's "Painkiller", "British Steel" has long been considered one of metal's all-time classics. It was with this release that PRIEST truly broke through to the masses, with a pair of tracks that have become fixtures on rock radio — the enduring anthems "Breaking the Law" and "Living After Midnight". But like all classic albums, there is not a single weak track detected on "British Steel", as evidenced by such standouts as the perennial concert highlight, "Metal Gods", as well as "Rapid Fire", "Grinder", "United" and "The Rage", among others.

Produced by Tom Allom, "British Steel" was recorded at the Tittenhurst Park in England — which is a mansion owned at the time by former THE BEATLES member Ringo Starr, and previously owned by John Lennon and Yoko Ono. In 2001, the album was remastered and reissued with extra bonus tracks, and also was the subject of an in-depth study as part of the popular "Classic Albums" DVD series

.

What an awsome interview.......man....Rob Halford is one cool dude and as far as him being gay,I think we all knew that when we all got into Judas Priest and we all didn't care!! lol!

I've got a couple of gay friends,I've got a couple of black friends and a couple of mexican friends ......its "ALL THE SAME".....people are people who cares about sexual preference...

To most of us old timers Rob has been to us like Santa Clause has been to a 5 year old kid.....every time you think about Rob Halford you get a smile and in honor we all thrive

on his accomplishments in mastering the arts of heavy metal music.  This guy has been such a huge factor to countless bands as we all know and are aware of that fact....

Rob is an awsome showman and of course our favorite Vocalist in the world and he should be PROUD of himself for displaying such a supurb character that makes up our Metal God.

Aidin Vaziri of the San Francisco Chronicle recently conducted an interview with
JUDAS PRIEST singer Rob Halford. The short chat follows below.

San Francisco Chronicle: You're playing a 30-year-old album ["British Steel"] on
this tour. Has the backstage catering improved?

Halford: Nothing's really changed. I think as far as venues and hotels and
things like that at a certain point I think you just reach a plateau, and we
reached ours some time ago. The most important part is when you walk out onstage
and lay down some metal. Thirty years later, the songs are still fierce. We just
get out there and blast through them.

San Francisco Chronicle: How do you still hit all those high notes?

Halford: Well, I can't hit all the notes. But my voice is an instrument, and you
have to do what you can to take care of it. I quit smoking. I don't drink. I
went through the whole rehab thing. I've been screaming my tits off for 38 years
now, but it still works and it's in good shape.

San Francisco Chronicle: People are actually taking JUDAS PRIEST seriously now.
Are you mad?

Halford: I don't think it seems that odd. We didn't have any idea we would be
here this long. We weren't an overnight sensation. You've got to work hard to
get to this place. It is a wonderful time for us right now, but it doesn't
change anything.

San Francisco Chronicle: Now that things are going so well, do you wish you had
just stayed in the band the whole time and then also Marky Mark wouldn't have
made that terrible movie "Rock Star"?

Halford: I think the last thing you want in life is to live with regret. We've
all talked about that time and we've agreed that, in retrospect, maybe we should
have just taken a break. But I was able to fulfill my dreams and ambitions by
making some music on my own, and I utilized all of those experiences. You don't
fully appreciate your band until you're away from them.

San Francisco Chronicle: Even though you wore S&M gear for years and released
albums like "Hell Bent for Leather", people were pretty surprised when you came
out during a 1998 MTV interview. Were you surprised that they were surprised?

Halford: From my own perspective, I never understood the significance. It was an
unplanned moment. I was on TV and said, "Speaking as a gay man." I didn't
realize until 48 hours later the firestorm it had created. It never crossed my
mind that anyone would care because I'd already been accepted. That part of me
is a nonissue. We are who we are. I'm still the same person.

Hey there Hellrider Yeah, I kind'a got a funny feeling after reading that myself.  I'm trying not to read too much into it as they've got a lot on their playe right now, so we'll see how ot goes!!!

Powerhouse heavy metal vocalist James Rivera (HELSTAR, SEVEN WITCHES, VICIOUS
RUMORS, FLOTSAM AND JETSAM) has announced plans to take his BLACK SABBATH and
JUDAS PRIEST tribute band SABBATH JUDAS SABBATH overseas. According to a posting
on Rivera's MySpace page, "Many European metal fans have long demanded that
Rivera bring SABBATH JUDAS SABBATH to their continent, and in August 2009, this
dream will finally come true! Rivera has recruited musicians from METALSTEEL, an
extraordinary Slovenian-based power metal band.

"Rivera feels that METALSTEEL is a perfect fit for delivering the SABBATH JUDAS
SABBATH shows in Europe. The first performance of the European SABBATH JUDAS
SABBATH chapter is scheduled for August 1, 2009, at Gala Hala Metelkova in
Ljubljana, Slovenia. This will just be the beginning of branching SABBATH JUDAS
SABBATH across Europe."

According to a press release from Sirius XM, on July 23rd from 4-5PM ET,
drummer Richard Christy (ex-DEATH, ICED EARTH) from The Howard Stern Show will
be guest hosting a special hour of his favorite metal jams in what we like to
call his Heavy Metal Hoedown.

Tune in to hear Richard drop loads of Liquid Metal upon North America from bands
such as AMON AMARTH, NEVERMORE, WRATHCHILD AMERICA, THE HIXON, CROTCHDUSTER,
DISMEMBER and more.

Plus Richard shows off his inhuman drumming skills in recorded offerings from
CONTROL DENIED, Iced Earth, BURNING INSIDE and a solo song called 'Frost', which
appeared in a Howard TV special about Richard’s passion for beating the skins.

In November Metal Blade records will be releasing his new project called CHARRED
WALLS OF THE DAMNED, which features Richard on drums, Tim “Ripper Owens
(YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, ex-JUDAS PRIEST, Iced Earth) on vocals, Steve DiGiorgio
(Control Denied, Iced Earth, SADUS, ex-TESTAMENT) on bass and Jason Suecof
(TRIVIUM, ALL THAT REMAINS THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER producer) on guitar.

Catch Richard hosting the annual Hixon-Fest 2009 on Saturday, July 25th over in
North Bellmawr, New Jersey at The Pennant East.

Adam Gold of Nashville Cream recently conducted an interview with guitarist
Glenn Tipton of British heavy metal legends JUDAS PRIEST. A few excerpts from
the chat follow below.

Nashville Cream: Right, how would you say the "British Steel" record has aged
after three decades?

Tipton: Well, hopefully not very much. I mean one of the best compliments that's
ever been paid to PRIEST is that our music is fairly timeless and I think
["British Steel"] falls into that category. We can still go on stage and play
"Steeler" or "Rapid Fire" or "The Rage" and the audience really enjoys it, so I
suppose in a sense we're very lucky that our compositions have stood the test of
time.

Nashville Cream: Do you feel that the band gets better critical reception now
than it did 30 years ago?

Tipton: I wouldn't say it's a better reaction now, it's as good, but you know
we've always been a live act. It's never been us and the audience, it's the
whole thing and if you're going to watch a PRIEST show, you know the audience
sings along with the chorus, the verses, and even the lead breaks. So, we've
been fortunate, the reaction has always been good for PRIEST.

Nashville Cream: The short film "Heavy Metal Parking Lot" obviously cemented
your audience as part of rock 'n' roll lore, 23 years later how is the audience
you see at your shows today different from that audience in 1986?

Tipton: Well, we've been very fortunate that we've had a lot of young people
coming to the shows and we've got the older PRIEST fans that have been there
from day one and have been very loyal throughout the years, but we've got a lot
of young kids in the audience and some are brought by the parents or turned on
by the parents but others have discovered the band in their own right and it's
really surprising just how many young people are at PRIEST shows.

Nashville Cream: Do you listen to any contemporary metal bands?

Tipton: I listen to everything really. I listen to everything across the board:
melodic music, pop music, heavy metal, classical music, film themes. There's not
one area of music I concentrate on. I've always been the same, I have a very
wide attention span, if you like, for music and I pull my inspiration from many
areas.

Nashville Cream: On "British Steel" I noticed there are a lot of elements of
other genres besides metal, even reggae comes to mind. What would you say the
band's most un-metal influence was?

Tipton: You know it's difficult to say because obviously there are three main
writers in the band, Rob, K.K., and myself and we're very fortunate that there's
a very unique chemistry there on a writing level and we all draw inspiration
from different areas you know. I can't speak for Ken or Rob, I know that my
tastes are very diverse; I listen to film themes and things like that, so I
think that's the secret really. It's quite magical when we get in a room
together because we all have such diverse influences and we draw from many
areas, so when we get together there's a massive selection to draw from and some
pretty magical things happen when we get together.

Nashville Cream: I noticed you did a double record last year.

Tipton: That's right, yeah, Nostradamus.

Nashville Cream: Are you playing some songs off that at the show?

Tipton: Yeah, we're doing one at the moment. We use an intro, which is "Dawn of
Creation" and we play "Prophecy" but obviously that isn't what this tour is all
about, this is a 35-year celebration of PRIEST and that's why we're playing
"British Steel". As we've said before in one or two interviews the ambition, the
intention we have is to at some point play "Nostradamus" in its entirety. It's
something we'd really love to do. It's an mammoth task and we'd need to do a lot
of rehearsals, production rehearsals, but it's something we really would like to
do possibly next year or the year after.

Nashville Cream: Have you played the game Guitar Hero?

Tipton: I haven't played it myself, no...I've never played the game, but I think
it's a great idea. I think that in this day and age when you get video games
that advocate bad things like guns, violence, and drugs a lot, I think it's
great to have these games based around musical instruments like the guitar and
to encourage kids to pick up an instrument you know. I'm very much for that and
it's a great way to introduce kids to our music. It's an excellent idea.

Nashville Cream: The next reader wants to know if you have any preliminary plans
for the next studio album, and how many more albums you think you guys have left
in you.

Tipton: We haven't got any plans at the moment, but only because we never do. We
always finish a touring cycle first and this one will finish in Japan in October
and then we'll probably take a break through Christmas. Then next year we'll sit
down at the table and decide what we're going to do next. How many more albums
have we got in us? I'm not sure, you never know what's around the corner but at
the moment we've got a lot of energy and enthusiasm and we love every minute of
it. So, I'd be quite optimistic about that, but I can't say at the moment we
never do plan ahead, we've always been very spontaneous.

Hey guys, just a note of advisement.

I haven't been around lately because school ended, thus ending my connection to high speed haha. I have dialup and this site goes SLOW AS ASS on dialup, along with Blabbermouth so I literally can't post news or even bother with this site anymore. It just takes too long and too slow do load anything.

I'm not leaving the site, I'm just not coming back until I can get on a highspeed connection. I don't know when that'll be though, hopefully soon.

See you all around later.
