SOME REALLY GOOD HOCKEY GOING ON,ALTHOUGH IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S CURTAINS FOR MY HABS,IF NOT TONIGHT,SOON ENOUGH IT SEEMS,PRETTY MUCH AS I EXPECTED HOWEVER,MY GUYS HAVE SEVERAL KEY INJURIES,AND THEY'RE JUST OVERMATCHED BY A BETTER BRUIN SQUAD,WHO DESERVE THE LEAD THEY HAVE...WATCHED THE END OF THE DEVILS/CANES GAME LAST NIGHT,MY GOD THE MSG ANNOUNCER IS TERRIBLE AS FAR AS CALLING HOCKEY GOES,SHOULD BE DOING WRESTLING OR NASCAR,CANES SCORED WITH UNDER A SECOND LEFT IN THE GAME TO WIN,AND ALTHOUGH BRODEUR WAS CONTACTED,HE WAS CLEARLY OUT OF HIS CREASE,AND IT WAS INCIDENTAL,ALTHOUGH EVEN AFTER 28 DIFFERENT ANGLES SHOWN,THE MSG ANNOUNCER(WHO REFERRED TO HIMSELF AS A "HOMER") STILL COULDN'T GRASP THIS......GREAT TO SEE THE CANUCKS ADVANCING THOUGH ...AND THE CALGARY/CHICAGO SERIES HAS A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING ...SO ALL-IN-ALL,
NOT BAD I GUESS...

Grew up in Philly, pulling for the Flyers, but currently living in NC so gotta root for the Hurricanes. Really glad that Brind'amour won the cup, wish he had the chance to do it with Philly.

its not just politics.  Chicago has had a team forever.  at the local level, in that market, how the teams managment does will determine sales.  Same thing in Calgary, for a while, there were problems, they got their shit together and sell out often now.  Toronto, you could forget to bring the team to the rink for a few games, they would probably sell out.  the teams in the south, the owners probably believed that they would sell.  Gary granted them a licence for 50 million, which the league needed, and in the hopes of growing the game.  Anaheim might make money, the rest, I dont see how.  a screw up on both parts I would say.

Having spent 20 minutes talking to Gary personaly once, I would say he is a genuine guy who wants whats best.  remember the board of governers has to aprove things, like the goofy unbalanced schedule that exists now.  I took issue with that to him, and he said that while people like me who chear for an obscure team (devils fan in calgary) wont get to see their favorite team every year, all the teams do beter with more regional schedules, from a cost and fan base comparison, except the deep south, who benefit from canadian teams.  Eventualy these half assed markets will sink or swim.  I predict that in 10 years, we see the NHL move back to markets like quebec, winnipeg....  the tax programs that built them nice arena's in the south will get squashed when tax payers realize that they are paying for nothing.

Politics always seems to get in the way of good thing...I see the same highlights as you do, and we were one of those markets because of 'local politics' and we lost a solid fan base (see Weurtz Family!!!)...this year the Blackhawks 'sold out' every home game, that's over 22,000 in attendance for every game, but they marketed the team well and every game was on TV and we had a competitive team...not all markets can say that...but you are dead on Soy and I agree with everything you said...I wish Betteman and Co. would go F%#K themselves!!!

NOT ONLY THAT,BUT CBC,WHICH DOES THE BEST JOB IN PACKAGING HOCKEY PERIOD(ALTHOUGH TSN DOES QUITE WELL ALSO),PAYS MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO BROADCAST THE GAMES...NBC PAYS,Hmmm LET'S SEE...OH YEAH THAT'S RIGHT...NOTHING,ZILCH,NADA,SO BETTMAN AND HIS SOUTHERN BOYS KISS THEIR ASS TO GET IT SHOWN NATIONWIDE,WHEN IN REALITY,THE VAST MAJORITY DOESN'T GIVE A FLYING YOU KNOW WHAT ABOUT IT...IT'S CANADIAN BROADCASTING MONEY THAT CARRIES THE LEAGUE,ANOTHER FACT,AS FAR AS HOCKEY GOES HERE,WE ARE QUITE WELL AWARE OF THE NUMBERS AS FAR AS RATINGS GO...NBC AND VERSUS DON'T DRAW FLIES,EXCEPT IN THE MARKETS THE GAMES ARE BEING PLAYED,AND EVEN THEN THEY ARE POOR,THAT'S A FACT,NO MATTER HOW BETTMAN AND HIS GROUP OF BULLSHITTERS DOWN THERE SPIN IT...I MEAN HE
LIES THROUGH HIS TEETH,TELLING US THAT THE ATTENDANCE IS UP EVERYWHERE IN THE STATES!....ARE YOU KIDDING ME?...EVERY NIGHT THEY SHOW HIGHLIGHTS IN DALLAS,ATLANTA,FLORIDA,PHOENIX,ANAHEIM,TAMPA,AND SO ON...THERE ARE HUGE BLOCKS OF EMPTY SEATS...THAT'S A FACT...THERE HAS ONLY BEEN ONE OUTDOOR CLASSIC,(THE HERITAGE CLASSIC)AND THAT WAS THE FIRST ONE IN EDMONTON...THIS GAME IS SUPPOSED TO REFLECT THE GRASSROOTS OF THE GAME,IT DID THERE....NOW IT'S BEEN TURNED INTO NOTHING MORE THAN A SPECTACLE,AN ATTEMPT TO MAKE A  CASH GRAB...TO PUT THE IDIOTIC  PERSPECTIVE ON THIS,IT WOULD BE COMPARABLE TO HAVING THE WORLD CUP OF SOCCER,AND TELLING ENGLAND,GERMANY,AND ITALY THEY'RE NOT WELCOME....GARY BETTMAN,THE DUBYA OF THE NHL....

I WANT TO SEE A GOOD TRIPLE OVERTIME NAIL BITTER.  REMEMBER THE ISLANDERS AND CAPITALS ON EASTER SUNDAY 1988?
[Head banger] Monday, April 13, 2009 12:32:16 PM
home grown is always the way.  look at the rangers in the 90's.   the best talent, tons of money spent, and they never did anything.   the devils have been building from within for years, sure you have to add the ocasional player, but the draft is what makes or breaks a team.

the isles with 6 picks in the first 2 rounds, and a young team already are looking good in a couple of years

I would love to see the flames do well, but reality is, they will be the first team out.  if they were healthy, they might stand a chance, although its slim.

who knows.  I just want a chance to watch some.

the conf final is a good goal for the hawks, beyond that is probably dreaming but who knows.  a good playoff experience though, and who knows, look what the flames did a few years ago
