My TV is still trying to recover from all the times I yelled at it during that game. I mean, how many times can you hit a guy in the numbers and have them STILL drop it. Well, I guess I'll have to go back and review that game to find out!

How about Wisconsin calling that last time out? How very nice of them!

OK, let me try to answer that.
The current BCS system is about as good as we can get for now. Would I like to see a playoff system? Probably. MY concern is what it may do to classes and academics. Afterall, they are supposed to be in school getting an education, right?

I think there should be some kind of a playoff system, I guess. What bothers me is the abundance of schools that cry about not getting into the Bowl system. I have a problem with "nobody" schools that win several games in a row, then ACCIDENTALLY knock off a real school in the game of their lives and right away start complaining about the "fairness" of the bowl system. I think there is something to be said about tradition and strength of schedule. A team like a Notre Dame or SC or whatever is a school that has earned the right to play in a bowl year in and year out because they play against QUALITY opponents and have a TRADITION of football excellence. They are a QUALITY football program that we should enjoy watching. Take UNLV for example. They are horrible. EVERY year. Then, by sheer accident, they knock off ASU (who were ranked) and right away the morons in Vegas are screaming about a bowl game! WHAT??!?!?!?!? HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course, they have taken a dump (as usual) since then and the point is now moot, but you see what I mean.

To determine a true NATIONAL champion we need a playoff system. That much I will concede. I have NO idea how they can get that done.

Hey there DF, I enjoy watching the college game, though probably not as much as you.  Considering your 'passion' for the college game, are you in favor of the current BCS system or would you like a playoff scenario?  Also, if you would like to see a playoff, how would you like to see it formatted?

DF--can ya explain what you meant by Pro sports ended with the Phillies winning the world series ??--Was it them or would it have been any team ??--just wondering
[Deep Freeze] Saturday, November 01, 2008 6:33:32 AM
We have come to a very difficult time of year for me. I am not an NBA fan. I am not much of an NFL fan, although I will watch the Sunday games and playoffs. I am not the type that is "rabid" or seeks out like-minded fans to sit on Sunday and watch any particular team.  "Pro" sport ended from me when the Phillies won the World Series. That is not to say that I will not be watching football or even an occasional hockey game. It' just that I am not all that interested.

My passion is college football. I love Saturdays! I watch game after game. Love it!! To me, it is a far better product but not because of player ability. It is because of player passion!! The rivalries. The history. It is all so very exciting. To watch young men play a game for the love of the game and their school is a far better thing for me! I know we have an abundance of hockey fans here and that is great. I can watch it once in a while. Pro basketball does NOTHING for me at all. Nothing. I would watch college basketball anytime but I just cannot stand the pros. To me, professional basketball has become an abomination. Yes, the players are "talented" but they are not professionals. They are not the Magic Johnsons and the Larry Birds that I used to watch. They are all that is digusting and revolting about professional sports. I have said this before byt, the year that the American Team was beaten in the Olympic sealed it for me. I know there has been considerable changesince then but I will never forget it.

And so we start the transition into a new year. Baseball is a long five months away and the college season is in full swing. I will enjoy my weekends but I will dream of spring.

That's true, but can you really blame them after that disaster with Andrew Jones????? I would be a bit skittish I can assure you.

My thought is they will not pay Manny what he wants and that is too bad. He was awesome for them. Fact is, he is why they made the playoffs. Garciaparra is too old and they really need to look for another starting pitcher. They have some solid players in Furcal (if he stays healthy) and DeWitt. I do not know the story on Casey Blake but I would love to see him stay. Dump Nomar,Jones, and Kent (if he does not retire). Use the 30 plus million to get some pitching and find a way to keep Manny!

I know that in the Red Sox case it was too little, too late.  Lowell was out, Papi wasn't hitting well and Ellsbury didn't make the fireworks he did last year.  They both had a hell of a season though and there's always next year.  Still pretty heated about whether or not the Dodgers have the balls to spend real money and try to win or if they are content to be mediocre without top flite players.  It's easy to have guys like Manny when someone else is paying his salary for you.

NBA champion Celtics ready to go for banner No. 18

[scorpion01] Tuesday, October 28, 2008 11:24:32 AM

SORRY TO DISAGREE SOY, BUT DAN MARINO IS THE BEST QB EVER. MONTANA ALWAYS HAD A TEAM AROUND HIM. RUNNING BACKS THAT RAN FOR 1000 YARDS, DEFENSES THAT HOLD THE OTHER TEAMS TO UNDER 15 POINTS PER GAME.

MARINO NEVER HAD A 1000 YARD RUSHER BEHIND HIM. THE OTHER TEAM KNEW HE WAS GOING TO THROW, HE THREW AND COMPLETED THE PASSES ANYWAY. HE NEVER HAD A DEFENSE THAT WAS ANY GOOD. HE ALWAYS HAD TO PUT UP 30 POINTS TO WIN.

HE PUT UP 48 POINTS IN THE AFC CHANPIONSHIP GAME AGAINST THE CHARGES AND LOST.

[mmmmmm] Tuesday, October 28, 2008 4:20:32 AM

Nope Soy--it was announced that the game would be delayed til tonight

Now I'm getting that rain the Philly had

THE WORLD SERIES COULD BE WON BECAUSE OF WEATHER...PHILLY UP 2-1 IN THE SIXTH,BUT IF THIS GAME GET'S CALLED DUE TO RAIN,AND THE SCORE STANDS AS IS,THE PHILLIES WOULD WIN THE SERIES...MY OPINION ONLY,BUT THIS IS THE FINAL SERIES,THAT SHOULDN'T HAPPEN...

I realy don't have an answer for ya Soy--I have no idea why they act like that--I can tell ya I took my great niece to the Eastern State Pen for the halloween attraction--got severly lost due to mapquest & 2 male gas station attendants --drove past Eagles Stadium 3 times & as far as the eye could see there was a sea of nothing but red shirts on every road --street I was on --this was the day after they won the NCLS--I don't go for booing SANTA--I still believe ya know & throwing mustard at little kids is unthinkable --all I can say is --you get a bunch of "grown -ups" together who are drinking & then they're excited to be at the game --maybe they'll get their faces on tv etc & that's where they stop acting like adults --rest assured I don't act like that --I just enjoy watching the game !!
