Well that is a great point, 'Child. I guess I have a two part answer. For me, Unleashed in the East had the greatest impact on ME, even though I had been listening to Priest for years. But if I had to pick one album that really stands out, I suppose it would be British Steel. That album really did the most for the Band, as far as I can see. I think Painkiller probably has the most "great songs" on it but I think BS really put the Band into the public eye and was a HUGE turning point as far as their popularity.

I don't think i am fit to answer which is the "greatest" in the sense that i wasn't there when these albums where being released. Meaning i have no idea what impact these albums had when initially released. So my decision is being based on retrospective, i am looking at all of the albums they have done over the past 30+ years...And in my mind the album(s) that stand out the most are "Stained Class" and "Sin After Sin" - These are the 2 albums that i play the most.. This era of Priest does something special for me, which is very hard to put into words. It has something to do with the rythym, flow, groove, style of the music. It has so much feeling to it..gosh i feel like a fumbling 5 year old grasping at words to describe it.

Judas Priest is always Judas Priest - no matter what they've done - versatile and innovative at all times. That's what makes them so special. The band constantly evolves - not many other bands have the guts to do that - it's a risk - but it's a brave risk... That's what makes answering this question so hard.

For me it has to be British Steel. A simple album - straight forward - heavy in a new way - pounding drums, fast screaming guitars - for me it created not only the NWOBHM but set standards for the genre that are still up to date!

It had been 24 years since Jp has put out a GREAT album! It's about fucking time they put out another one in 2008! Nostradamus should have come out after Defenders. Then we could have been spared all this fucking bullshit in between.

I love Sin after Sin and Sad Wings of Destiny, though Defenders and Nostradamus have probably had the most listens over the years (months for Nostradamus). The more I listen to it, the more impressed I am. I didn't think much of the song Death, but now, it's as though the messenger was once a vocal virtuoso, but now twisted and demented, bringing chills down your spine. Monstrous CD!

Screaming for vengence, for no other reason than it kicks serious ass, followed by defenders of the faith.

Changed my mind...

Painkiller

Painkiller is and always be Judas Priest's greatest album. It's Priest at their Purest. Not one bad or boring song on this album, balls to the walls, like an upbeat version of Screaming For Vengeance.

When I'm asked what my fave Priest album is I always say Sad Wings Of Destiny... but it actually rotates between:

Sad Wings Of Destiny, Stained Class, Painkiller & Defenders Of The Faith.... Probably Sin After Sin too

It's hard to decide.
For me it has been Painkiller for quite a long time but Stained Class and Sin After Sin, British Steel are very strong in my opinion.

IT'S HARD TO JUST PICK OUT JUST ONE AS THE GREATEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME --EACH ONE IS SO DIFFERENT & UNIQUE IN IT'S OWN RIGHT --BUT THAT'S JUST THE WAY PRIEST IS --JUST WHEN YOU THINK YOU'VE GOT THEM ALL FIGURED OUT , THEY CHANGE THE GAMEPLAN !!!--IF I HAD TO CHOOSE JUST 1 IT WOULD HAVE TO BE SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE

I'VE LEARNED SOMETHING HERE. WOW! EVERYONE HAS AN OPINION AND THINGS THAT I THINK ARE A NO BRAINER MAY NOT BE. TO ME SAD WINGS OF DESTINY IS NOT ONLY THE GREATEST JUDAS PRIEST ALBUM, IT MAY BE ONE OF THE 5 GREATEST ALBUMS BY ANYBODY ANY KIND OF MUSIC OF ALLTIME. THE DIVERSITY, THE INTENSITY THE VOCAL RANGE.

NOT TO MENTION HOW ADVANCED IT WAS FOR ITS TIME. THIS ALBUM IS 35 YEARS OLD AND STILL SOUNDS AWSOME. COMPARED TO WHAT WAS BEING PUT OUT IN 1974 THIS ALBUM TOOK BALLS. BUT I GUESS THAT IS WHAT MAKES JUDAS PRIEST "THE PRIEST"

Nostradamus is already a great classic in my opinion. It wreaks of classic heavy metal overtones. I know it sounds nothing like Jimi Hendrix or Cream...but in an odd sort of way it reminds me of that era. Go figure.

Painkiller. It was album I bought of Priest and I love that hard rough sound. I think British Steel isn't that kind of tough. But BS is a great album.

I'd say Screaming for Vengeance, Painkiller or Ram it down! But let's way for the new album to be more familiar to us...it's very so good!
