Let's face it, guys: Priest aint gonna make albums like Screaming For Vengeance and Defenders Of The Faith no more. These belong to the eighties, when the guys were in their thirties.
Now they'r approaching sixty and becoming grandfathers. They'r beyond the excesses of sex, drugs and rock'n'roll. They'v become religious, they'r concerned about the purpose of life, suffering, death, the afterlife.
We'l see more stuff like Nostra, maybe even more mellow and seeking.
Let's be happy that the Priest guys are serious musicians. They'r not trying to perpetuate some youth image way beyond reasonable limits, like Mick Jagger and Steven Tyler.
Let's enjoy Vengeance and Defenders for what they are: Priest in the 80's.
And even if ya aint as old as the guys (and me), try to follow in your mind the maturing of this great band

Nostradamus is a Masterpiece!!!
I`m glad many Judas Priest fans recognize this, though it does not surprise me. What surprises me is the negative view some fans have about Nostradamus which is a profound, mature and sophisticated album that shows evolution!. We should all applaud and take our hats off to the Metal Gods ( as Nikitah Imani said ). They challenged themselves and dare to do something different and sensational. I would love to listen to Nostradamus live in its entirety!!!

yes, it is italian. Nostradamus was french but he knew several languages of couse, besides, amog his travels he visited Italy many times... besides as I read in wiki "..feeling vulnerable to religious fanatics, he devised a method of obscuring his meaning by using "virgilianized" syntax, word games and a mixture of other languages such as Greek, Italian, Latin and Provençal".... I don't know if those words were written by Nostradamus as I still can't find where or from wich book they transcribed those words (if they did)

Got the 3-LP version of Nostradamus - definitely the way to hear it.
Took me a long time to get into this record, at first I was wondering WTF they were trying to do. Then I read the "Classic Rock" review, where they simply said "it's a concept album. Get used to it". So I listened again, properly. Holy shit! Nice work gentlemen :-) Very brave, and well done on the Grammy nominations. About time the industry took notice of the greatest band of all time! |

| The More I listen to this cd the more I like it. You have to let it grow on you. The first few times I listened to it, I hated it and thought it was too slow. But now I grew to love this album and the hard work the band must of put into this project. I really apprieciate the music on this cd. Give it a chance,it will grow on you. |

This is my second post ever. (First being on June 22nd in this thread).
As i stated in my first post they have done this for a bigger purpose then most of us are seeing. Re-read my first post and Rob's comments will now make sense.
This was posted in the "Around the Horn" thread today:
"Encouraged to imagine himself gazing into a crystal ball on the cover of the latest issue of Decibel Magazine (seen below), Halford said, "I do predict that Nostradamus' is going to be embraced. I can see it being performed by Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas. I think I can also se a Grammy in there."
In my original post I should have stated Las Vegas instead of Broadway show.

I am enjoying Nostradamus. Sure, it is not your Standard British Metal album, but there are heavy songs done in a different way. I like how Rob's voice transcends you back to the old say Sad Wings or Sin after Sin days. Althought there are a few prodding songs and some of the intro stuff are a bit long, I think you have to view it as a whole epic piece. Maybe it is a bit obscure for the new Priest fan, but for the diehards it puts alot of perspective into Priest and their careers, which is literally at the sunset. They can do what the want and it is still meaningful to me after following them for 30 years. Maybe the outside world is scratching their heads and saying why did they release this? But, this JP fan is smiling and looking forward to seeing them live again in August for the 35th time. Thanks for all the years of music and the new Nostradamus JP.

First off, I just want to thank Nikitah Imani for your post. I completely agree with you. If the band doesn't challenge themselves musically, then are they just in it for the money?? That's the impression I get. I'm still trying to figure out what the heck has drawn Judas Priest so close to my heart! Part of the appeal is they've covered so many different styles, so if I feel summery and want to listen to something light, I can throw in Turbo. If I need to be more aggressive/assertive, I throw in Defenders or Painkiller. If I'm feeling old school, then I throw in Rocka Rolla or Sad Wings of Destiny (one of my all time favorites). I have all of the Priest catalogue with Rob Halford, and though I've listened to Priest with Tim Owens (ie, Hell is Home) I can't bring myself to get into those CDs. Which really isn't fair to the rest of the band that kept slogging away while Rob was off doing his thing. So basically the band has created an entire discography that covers virtually every mood you might be in, which is in effect GENIUS but also tremendously DIABOLICAL!! Why go anywhere else, when you get it all here. (Except for country of course! Which I'm not enamoured with, though I don't hate it.) Nostradamus is just the icing on the cake really. I love classical music, and have been to musicals and Vegas shows, so to have a heavy metal, or better yet, Priest version of a heavy metal opera to listen to. AWE-SOME! I was a bit leery about the whole idea at first, but who the h*ll was I kidding?! IT'S PRIEST! What's not to love! I've been listening to these 2 cds for 2 weeks already and can't get enough. I have thrown in a little Halford (Resurrection) and some old Priest just mix it up a bit, so I don't od on it, but essentially I wake up with Nostradamus tunes in my head and go to sleep with them swimming around up there. Thanks a lot guys!
I am very excited about the band coming to Winnipeg, however, I am mildly disappointed to discover that it won't be the full on Nostradamus show. Now I'm trying to figure out where the full shows will be, and how much it's going to cost me to fly there! I hope they do some Canadian Nostradamus shows, or even Minneapolis. That's a short jaunt for us and maybe I can convince the hubby and boys to come out with me. Either way, the concert will be awesome and I am so glad they are coming back again.

A few years ago for the hell of it I listened in a day to bunches of versions of Johnny B. Goode done in many musical styles and guess what, JP's version was BY FAR one of the best. Whether they were making fun of the song or paying homage, it really isn't all that bad. It is out of place in Ram It Down, but when I was a kid I thought it was cool. I still don't think it's all that bad.

I grew up in the crossroads between hip hop and metal. They were both born of resistance culture and I was into that from birth. :) Both metal and hip hop in their way gave the finger to the system. So I played them together with bombastic type symphony music which is why Priest, Pink Floyd, Rush, and Purple as well as Sabbath and some others really spoke to me. Far as I am concerned it's all blues. Sarah Vaughan sang it, Billie crooned it, Muddy played it, Little Rich and Chuck Berry rocked it, Sabbath ground it to E chords, Priest speeded it up and made it bombastic. Hello Metalians,
I've been listening to "Nostradamus" for 3 weeks now.
But I've waiting for The Priest to deliver this Masterpiece for more than a decade.
So thank you my "METAL GODS" for the biggest album you've ever made.
I've seen you this year in Dusseldorf and at GRASPOP with yet another great performance.
But I'm really waiting for next year to see "Judas Priest" bring the entire Nostadamus album Live on Stage with a bigger than ever show an hopefully with a lot of musicians (Clasic instuments) on stage.

Seems to me that you are the most "metal" hip-hop enthusiast I've ever encountered anywhere! Hell, you seem to be even more "metal" than many of the people who call themselves "metal"...

Turbo I liked except for the synthesized guitars which were new and again evolution as they were used more effectively as time went on. But the core of the things that made me a Prest fan are present in the new record. History is filled with records like this that were masterpieces that had zero commercial success and then suddenly everybody realized later that something was going on. It's funny to me because I remember Vengeance when YGATC came out and a lot of "true believers" said Priest has sold out. It went triple platinum but took a decade or so to do it. Priest is about artistry. Real metal is about that to. The minute metal or any form of music becomes what the masses are into today, its doomed. I watched my intellectual, socially conscious hip-hop turn into stupid, juvenile drug-laced rants and fake gangsters. From Rakim Allah to whoop dere it is. I could have bought in, but I committed to my music. 20 years later, I'm still here as that mess slowly fades. Priest is an inspiration to me for that reason. In 2009 I will release my 15th album MiddleMan, a Biblical concept album with lots of symphony and metal elements. It won't be commercial and it's different from my typical style, but it's the best I've ever done as an artist. I respect Priest across genres for coming out "all guns blazing." And as hard as they try, they will never take away the title Judas Priest have earned anymore than those of us in hip-hop no matter how "hard-core" can forget a group from New York rapping to a Chic remix. Without them, I would not be here. I might do a different style, but my hats are off to the masters. Priest isn't about making a hit or even one mega-album, but the catalog, the discography, the duration. I'm heading out to the highway in August to see them at Verizon and I'll be there if I'm all by myself singing along with my favorite "artists."
