Being a huge fan of both Star Trek and Star Wars, I can with objective clarity that both Roddenberry and Lucas are visionaries in their own right. It is the height of stupidity to compare two vastly different pieces of sci-fi history.
Star Trek was Gene Roddenberry's fictional vision of what would happen to humanity and Star Wars was set a long time ago...in a galaxy far, far away. Star Wars is simply a masterful example of light vs dark, good vs evil ideal. That sentence right there is EVERY REASON why saying one is better than the other is utterly pointless. It's personal preference to like one or the other or both, but they cannot be compared. The only things they have in common is that they are part of sci-fi, have spawned spinoffs, mass merchandising, and a plethora of novelas, comic books and graphic novels. |

I normally don't watch Frasier, but last nights episode caught my eye because someone had posted (anonamously) a petition for the writers of Star Trek to add a four breasted woman as a character. It went to commercial so I started urfing and forgot to go back.
While I'm here I guess I'll go ahead and say that I lean more to Star Wars than Star Trek. I do like 'em both, but for different reasons. Star Trek was funnier and ground breaking in some ways whereas Star Wars was darker, it had a very real (as movies go) evil side to it. That always appealed to me. |

The original Star Wars trilogy is classic cinema, the prequels are a waste of time, the only good thing to come out of them was Weird Al Yankovics encapsulation of the entire plot of Phantom Menace into one song, sung to the tune of American Pie, check it out on youtube, it's clever and funny.
I've always thought Star Trek was a good tv show, the movies didn't do much for me at all, can't really remember anything about them apart from Wrath Of Kahn. Ricardo Montalbans portrayal of Kahn is probably the best and most memorable piece of acting ever done by anyone in anything associated with Star Trek, he completely outclasses second raters Shatner and Nimoy and all the other B grade hacks involved in the franchise. The Star Trek movies are to Sci Fi what the Police Academy movies are to comedy, the first few were ok, but after a while it just gets tiresome. Just a bunch of crappy actors flogging a dead horse.
Star Wars ( the originals ) wins it easily for me. |
