Phew, thanks for the clarification. You don't know how long it took me to understand "takng the piss" (thanks Dawn) or what was Necro's? Sitting above the salt?

Man, I love the international flavour (see...I'll even spell it like them thar Brits) of this site!

Bahaha, oops, sorry, it's hot today, my brain melted some time ago what I meant was a lot of the songs on Death Magnetic seem like Metallica are just trying to prove they can play long songs, just because they can. No rhyme or reason, the songs don't benefit from going on forever, they just seemed to go Ok lets play really long boring songs to show how awesome we think we are! LOL!

"...look how long we can play for type stuff?"

Ok, that phrasing got me. Please to repeat in the Queen's English (better yet, translate into American HAAAAAA!). I'll start invoking the peanut gallery if not!

True. I suppose I just think that a song/album should only be nominated for the grammy awards that is directly after it's release (therefore Death Magnetics year would have been last year, that's it). I agree, the album is not very good. I found it to be rather self indulgent, look how long we can play for type stuff. But that's another story LOL.

Death Magnetic actually came out in Sept 08 so it is less than a year and a half old. Also Metallica tend to release singles long after the album comes out.  I'm pretty sure they are still touring the album as well .as their tours tend to stretch out to a couple of years on and off. Therefore the only problem I have with them being nominated is that the album is shit. However time wise I have no problem with them being nominated. It's not like they are being nominated for Seek And Destroy. 33 years is really pushing it.

Indeed it does Freeze. I for one really hope Priest win, 33 year old song or no. Slayer have 2 grammys for goodness sake (one year after the other, for songs from the same album I believe), a band which wouldn't be around without the influence of Priest. Time for some Priest love! LOL!

Yeah, that's true. It seems as though Metallica are the "darlings" of the Grammy world every year. I suppose they feel that they "must" have representation from the "hard rock" world and Metallica is the soup d'jour each time. Shows what they have become, doesn't it?

One thing I found weird about grammy noms this year is, Metallica is nominated for songs from the Death Magnetic album, which is what, 2 years old? The just HAD to nominate them for something I guess

That is such a great point, jj. I mean, the fact is there is VERY little in the way of "quality" music available. Too much pre-recorded, over-dubbed crap. There are only so many "I'm so hot, look at my ass" songs one can do before it becomes terribly redundant, no?

I have no idea how they decide what will be nominated but it is just ridiculous.

This grammy nomination is a fucking joke. Dissident Aggressor was written and recorded in 1977. If your going to nominate someone for and award in 2010 the song should have been written in 2009. Obviously there can't be much good stuff out there these days if a 33 year old song is being nominated. Wonder if Elvis is up for any awards this year?

thanks guardian angel.well it sure would be great if they take it but if they dont atleast it is good ,positive exposer for the band.

Yes I agree Hellrider.  I would just like to see them get true recognition for all their years of hard rockin'!  It's still pretty amazing after pushing 40 years of metal mayhem, Judas Priest is getting mentioned/nominated for a Grammy!  That's quite something.  Way to go boys, you've earned it!

Voting members of the Academy.  That's it.  No one else can vote.  To qualify as a Voting member, you have to have creative or technical credit on a minimum of six tracks in a t least one voting discipline, and the album has to have been commercially released in the U.S.  Damn.  I guess that means I'm out.  Well I'm voting right here!  I vote for Priest.  They've had a long & varied career.  They deserve a star on the walk of fame too.  We should also name a star after them.  Perhaps the evening star.

Yay, Priest have been nominated again for a Grammy!  I wonder if they'll get recognized this time, for the many decades of music they've put out.  It's unfortunate that there is only one real "metal" catogory.  It makes it near impossible to truly honor the many bands and types of metal that are out there.  When the generic "Rock" category includes Rock, Hard Rock, and Metal, it's hard to compete with the Linkin Park's of the world and the popularity of their type of music.  Look at the sheer number of catogories for Pop music!  Best vocal, best male vocal, best female vocal, best duet, best album, best song, best haircut, best barely there outfit, etc, etc, ad nauseum.  Well to h*ll with them all, I'm cheering for Priest!  Dissident Aggressor is an awesome song!
