I usually use half a can of Roach spray to "stun" them... then i try and lob a heavy object in the direction of the roach in the hopes of squishing it. I can't get close to them though, i like to keep at least half a rooms distance between me and the roach and i ALWAYS make sure i have an exit in case it comes running at me... which they usually do. Spiders send chills down my spine.. we have some that make their nests in the trees and powerlines outside, i hate trimming the bushes because im scared i might upset one and it'll come at me fangs and all... *shudder*..
The worst thing is the feeling that lingers after an encounter with a roach or spider... You know when if something touches you slightly you jump 5 ft in the air and usually run off screaming then wondering what the hell just touched you...

Well, that's the think DC.. I keep wondering if half of this is myth or fact. It keeps me up at night sometimes. It looks to me that we share the same phobia. I'm so terrified of these creatures. Ok no laughing here: I'm too afraid to swat them (and spiders) because I think; what if they make eye contact with me and I miss. They're not only going to have adrenaline pumping they're gonna be angry at me and seek out revenge right? So in total fear of missing and being attacked... I usually act extremely girly and scream for my husband to come rescue me from all things arachnid and roach like. Now, the wierd thing is that I'm not freaked out by insects or other creapy crawlies. It's just the spiders and roaches...

Oh and Vail... I when you said that you only know they're dead when you see their guts spewing out of their head and abdomen... two words TERMINATOR TWO!!!!! Ok so maybe that is very unlikely to happen but they don't call this an "unnatural" phobia for nothing lol.

"...guts flowing out of it's abdomen and head."

Hey Vail...remind me to never, ever piss you off!!!

Oh god.... don't scare me like that. Roaches are my biggest phobia.... especially the flying ones... I can't even get close enough to squish them with my shoe even when they are face up and "lifeless"..... Isn't there some fact that they can survive 7 days or something without their heads attatched? Or did someone make that up to scare me?.

Hmmm...good question, Joe. There have been times where I use bug spray on those suckers and they're still wiggling a leg or antenna when I check on them a few hours after. The only time I feel certain that a roach is dead is when I squish it with my shoe and see the guts flowing out of its abdomen and its head. Then I know the roach won't bother me ever again.

Ok... here's a thoght that's been "bugging" me for a while now: If cockroaches are the only creatures that can survive a nuclear holocast... (atomic bomb etc) how come stuff like Raid and Doom kill them? I just don't get i? I've got a huge unnatural phobia of spiders but you know what makes my skin crawl more than spiders??? Fecking Roaches!! A spider.. scary.. but I'm even more terrified of those roaches...

So I guess in the back of my mind is the theory that RAID etc does not really kill the roach but stuns it so that we think they're dead and then they come alive in the trash again?

Anyone ever had the same thoughts or question????

Being an LPN & working in a nursing home --we all have to have the flu shot or we're not allowed to work--the only ones exempt from this are  the ones allergic to eggs

But we have a resident who got the flu shot 3 years ago & developed Guillan-Barre syndrome from it so there's ups & downs to it --3 years & he's just now able to move his fingers a little

[spapad] Monday, October 27, 2008 8:56:54 PM
Soy, I took allergy shots for years, I was the human pin coushin. My fiends used to come over just to watch me take a shot, which did not bother me, I was used to a needle few times a week. I would not have to pay for it where I work, but I'll take my chances, too many reactions to the shot this year. NO WAY!

Took the shot on Halloween morning. By the evening, I could not go trick or treating because I was very ill! Damn Doctors! Ruined my 8th year of Halloween, and THAT, is a sin! LOL

"English" by T.S. Watt

I take it you already know
Of tough and bough and cough and dough?
Others may stumble, but not you
On hiccough, thorough, laugh, and through.

Well done! And now you wish, perhaps,
To learn of less familiar traps?
Beware of heard, a dreadful word,
That looks like beard and sounds like bird.

And dead: it's said like bed, not bead--
for goodness' sake don't call it "deed"!
Watch out for meat and great and threat
(They rhyme with suite and and straight and debt).

A moth is not a moth in mother,
Nor both in bother, broth in brother,
And here is not a match for there,
Nor dear and fear for bear and pear,

And then there's dose and rose and lose
Just look them up--and goose and choose,
And cork and work and cord and ward
And font and front and word and sword,

And do and go and thwart and cart--
Come, come, I've hardly made a start!
A dreadful language? Man alive!
I'd mastered it when I was five.

And yet to write it,
the more I tried,
I hadn't learned
at fifty-five.

I AM TRULY INSPIRED TONIGHT ALL...EARLIER THIS EVENING I SPENT TWO HOURS LISTENING TO A WOMAN SPEAK AT A CHURCH NOT A 5 MINUTE WALK FROM MY RESIDENCE...
THE WOMAN SPEAKING WAS KIM PHUC. THIS WOMAN WAS THE SUBJECT OF PROBABLY THE MOST FAMOUS (OR INFAMOUS DEPENDING UPON YOUR VIEW) PHOTOGRAPH TAKEN DURING THE VIETNAM WAR (IF INTERESTED IN VIEWING...WIKIPEDIA..THEN HER NAME,YOU WILL UNDERSTAND,SHE IS THE LITTLE GIRL WITH HER CLOTHES COMPLETELY BURNED OFF FROM A NAPALM ATTACK),I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO GREET HER AS SHE ARRIVED AND SPENT ABOUT 10 MINUTES SPEAKING WITH HER. ...WE EXCHANGED HUGS,SHE SIGNED MY BOOK ABOUT HER ENTITLED "THE GIRL IN THE PICTURE"...AND THEN SHE WENT OFF TO PREPARE TO FOR HER SPEAKING ENGAGEMENT...AFTERWARDS WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO SPEND MORE TIME TALKING WITH HER AND GET MY PIC TAKEN WITH HER....YES!!!...HER LIFE STORY AND
STRUGGLES ARE AWE INSPIRING,BUT HER CAPACITY FOR FORGIVENESS WAS WHAT IMPRESSED ME MOST...A LESSON TO BE SURE. EVEN THOUGH THE ROOM WAS CROWDED,SHE SPOKE TO ME AS IF WE WERE OLD FRIENDS...AN ABSOLUTE GEM OF A HUMAN BEING...KIM PHUC.

PLEASE VIEW THIS PICTURE,THEN REALIZE HOW LUCKY MOST OF US TRULY ARE.

Especially the part about making the fort. I find it best when you start by putting the boxspring against the mattress in an A-frame closing off one side with the wall then draping the sheets over the top and open side.
