They are predicting 4 WEEKS of no electricity for many in our region. Many schools still closed and not likely to open soon. All cities in the region have a curfew established. Anything but food or fuel and you are doing a stretch in the jug. Really hard times (glad I have power again, IOW!). |

APPARENTLY 12cm OR MORE OF SNOW FEEL ON LONDON OVERNIGHT! ...VIRTUALLY BRINGING THE CITY TO A STANDSTILL...THEY'RE CALLING THIS A 'SIGNIFICANT SNOW EVENT'...AS YOU CAN IMAGINE,WE IN THIS PART OF THE WORLD WOULD ONLY FIND THIS AN ANNOYANCE...HAD A LITTLE BIT OF A LAUGH THOUGH...A LONDON OFFICIAL WAS INTERVIEWED AND SAID: "WELL IN CANADA,THEY GET THIS EVERY MORNING"...NOT QUITE MY COMMONWEALTH COUSIN,BUT IT WAS AMUSING NEVERTHELESS. |

Many are still out around us. Went to eat with a friend last night who had a house full of Korean students who attended a nearby University without power. They are saying it will be WEEKS before they are able to repair the damage. A city 10 minutes away has a curfew in place and, I just learned, their Walmart shut down driving everyone into ours. Here, no bread, only small-size batteries (only saw ONE pack of C batteries in the whole store), water and propane are both sold in limited quantities now.

NOW, I am going to be fine. Got an electric space heater kicking out the love while I bring the whole house up to a liveable temp.
I am FROM Detroit (Grosse Pointe, actually...suburb). However, I LIVE in NorthWest Tennessee. Nearest city that might actually be on the map is Paducah, Kentucky. 50 minutes to the north. I live in a small, and fairly isolated town and, my main prob, I even live outside that small town in the country. When something like this hits, they work on getting the city turned back on before they bother with us out here in the rural areas.
No worries about me, mate. How are YOU?! Missed a ton of messages but just saw your recent posts. Hope you are are on the mend. [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Necroticist from Saturday, January 31, 2009 12:15:24 PM)

Oh, you MUST be joking. I'll gladly trade. Still no power, heat or water in my house which sits at a comfortable 30 degrees F. All I can do to try and keep one fireplace going as I am really worried about the birds. Means getting up to stoke the fire (bringing the room to a rosy 45 degrees) every couple of hours during the night. I'll spare you the smell of a house which has had no running water for days. Let's just say it isn't pretty.
Run on batteries here is incredible. Nary a D battery to be found.
Wish warm thought my way folks, I repeat. THIS SUCKS!!! To be continued... [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Vaillant 3.0 from Thursday, January 29, 2009 3:04:46 PM) | | Vaillant 3.0 wrote: | | ...
