Guido, my friend!! I have been reading about your suffering. I am SO sorry, man! How awful. I do hope the missus and Calvin are holding up well. I am sure it must have been miserable! Hang in there! A shower ALWAYS helps me! I am sure it will help you, too!!!

Hotel room or a friend both would have been great ideas, Spa. However, no hotel rooms open anywhere close to us (not too many and, with so many people without power, they were all packed) and the "nearby friend" was where I would have gone except I have the dogs and birds. Almost all my close friends have cats.

NOW, I am going to be fine. Got an electric space heater kicking out the love while I bring the whole house up to a liveable temp.

I am FROM Detroit (Grosse Pointe, actually...suburb). However, I LIVE in NorthWest Tennessee. Nearest city that might actually be on the map is Paducah, Kentucky. 50 minutes to the north. I live in a small, and fairly isolated town and, my main prob, I even live outside that small town in the country. When something like this hits, they work on getting the city turned back on before they bother with us out here in the rural areas.

No worries about me, mate. How are YOU?! Missed a ton of messages but just saw your recent posts. Hope you are are on the mend.   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by Necroticist from Saturday, January 31, 2009 12:15:24 PM)

Oh Strat be praised. Power came back on at about 3am last night!! Man, I can use it too. A hot bath is in order as my back is on fire from splitting logs and lugging them up three flights of stairs for the past couple of days. Oh the joy of being able to flush a toilet!

Many are still out around us. Went to eat with a friend last night who had a house full of Korean students who attended a nearby University without power. They are saying it will be WEEKS before they are able to repair the damage. A city 10 minutes away has a curfew in place and, I just learned, their Walmart shut down driving everyone into ours. Here, no bread, only small-size batteries (only saw ONE pack of C batteries in the whole store), water and propane are both sold in limited quantities now.

Yes, my friends, pretty as they might be, ice storms SUCK!!!

Oh, you MUST be joking. I'll gladly trade. Still no power, heat or water in my house which sits at a comfortable 30 degrees F. All I can do to try and keep one fireplace going as I am really worried about the birds. Means getting up to stoke the fire (bringing the room to a rosy 45 degrees) every couple of hours during the night. I'll spare you the smell of a house which has had no running water for days. Let's just say it isn't pretty.

Run on batteries here is incredible. Nary a D battery to be found.

Wish warm thought my way folks, I repeat. THIS SUCKS!!!  To be continued...

LOL..... I know , The weather is only crap when it's middle of summer and we get the really high temps with high humidity. I like warmth, but humidity..... It's a bitch.

What's it like in the southern states of America?.... Must be a similar climate to here?...

[Vaillant 3.0] Thursday, January 29, 2009 3:04:46 PM

...

I want an ice storm!!! The aftermath looks so pretty (even if it is dangerous):

...and it's sunny and bright here in CA, with highs in the 60s.

[guidogodoy] Wednesday, January 28, 2009 5:40:03 PM
SUCKS! The ice storm of which I have been complaining of late has finally done me in. Lost power at midnight last night and, as the whole house is electric, that means no heat, stove, OR water as I have a well system.  Had to run out to freakin' Walmart at 8am this morning just to buy two gallons of water so I could soak my head to try and tame my hair (and you've all seen pictures of THAT).

Even better is getting to work to find that the water main burst leaving the building without water or bathrooms here. Oh what fun. Especially now as I sit typing in a freezing office (they shut the heat off at 4pm) to get a project off via email to someone who needs it first thing tomorrow.

Play on, folks. Back who knows when...
[blackshadow] Wednesday, January 28, 2009 3:10:12 PM
Jeepers Creepers It's Summer here and yet we had the whole Summer's rain all in one day. At one stage it was so hard you could barely see out of the windows. We're expecting the same amount tomorrow.
[ladiesman] Wednesday, January 28, 2009 2:55:47 PM
It's sunny
[scorpion01] Wednesday, January 28, 2009 8:41:19 AM

THEN I'LL CONTINUE FOR YOU. NEW YORK CITY IS A SLOPPY SLOPPY MESS. THE COMMUTE WASN'T FUN. SNOW, FREEZING RAIN, THEN RAIN. WET AND WINDY.

BUT NOW I'M IN THE OFFICE WITH A CUP OF COFFEE AND SOME PRIEST TO WARM ME UP.

TONIGHT GOING HOME AS IT GETS COLDER WILL BE LOADS OF FUN.
