Yet you think that I am serious, Bud? It is too cold to swim! LOL!

About Calvin, you know that the Febreze did the trick? It has been days now, we've had rain and he still smells like a hairy fresh spring day. Well, maybe a bit more like "fall dirt" as he's been digging in it most of the morning but, still, it ain't bad!

Maybe I should have added a happy face or an (lol).
I love animals, I thought the absurdity of it would make you laugh.
Peace.

I think he'll find even Calvin's thin coat can harbor a bunch of stench. LMAO.

Good thing Calvin is small, huh? You and I would have needed a couple buckets worth of that stuff for our furry ones when it happened to us. Maybe because of our dogs thick undercoats it lingers longer because you can't get to it? Yes, that smell returns over and over again, uuuggghhh!

I get the feeling Calvin took basically a spray bath in that lovely spring smell. It's like perfume covering up body odor though. That stench shall return again, and again, and again................lol

Thank God we live right by the store!! I knew it was going to work after about 10 seconds - I couldn't smell the skunk on him anymore. Totally amazing! My friend worked for a vet and she told me that is exactly what they recommend to people. There is an oil in the skunk spray and the dishwashing liquid breaks that up. The baking soda neutralizes the smell while I bet the fizzing of the hydrogen peroxide gets the solution into the coat. If the smell returns, which I suspect that it might once the Febreeze wears off, you now know what to do. But as Spa said, when they get wet, you can still smell it a little. Everything has a lovely "spring breeze" smell Guess I must not have used enough!!

Febreze eh? I somehow find it diffult to believe that will provide long term relief of the stench, but good luck with that. That smell will come back each time he gets a little wet for a good long while.

kerosene burns longer and slower...  gives you more time for the picture.

HRMG I have knew there must be something better than vinegar.

Hey, thanks gang! What a learning tool we have here at JP.com! HRMG, that is quite a formula! Wish I would have had it the night of the incident. Thanks to you too, HB.

Oddly enough, the Febreze worked pretty damn well. Had to give the carpet where the hound rolled around another soak but everything now has this lovely "spring breeze" smell to it. Dog included.

@ Bud. How about I soak YOU in gasoline for one minute, light you on fire and wait until you burn out naturally while Calvin and I watch from the pool. You might not live but I bet you'd be neat to watch. Especially at night. Perhaps kerosene as you'd burn brighter for the camera.
[Budred] Friday, September 16, 2011 8:54:55 AM
@Guido

Douse him with gasoline.
Let him soak for five minutes.
Set a match to him and after two minutes toss him in the pool.
I'm not sure if he'll live or not but the skunk smell will be removed.

No...really...I heard that works.
Good luck!

Oh'...and youtube it for us.

I do in fact know how to get rid of most of the skunk smell. Wolfgang decided to play with a cat at 2am in our backyard earlier this summer, only the cat was a skunk!!! OMG, THE WORST smell in the world! Anyway, we looked it up online and found a chemist had come up with this solution. Mark rushed to the store and bought the stuff and we bathed him at 2:30am in our driveway. I'm sure the neighbors were like WTF are they doing giving their dog a bath at this time??? While Mark was at the store which is a block from our house, I had to keep Wolfgang put. I almost threw up about 10 times. Here is the formula (we tripled it):

1 quart of  3% hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
1 teaspoon of dishwashing detergent.

Mix the ingredients in an open bucket or bowl.  The mixture will fizz.  Wet your dog and thoroughly massage the solution into the coat.  Be sure to keep the mixture out of the dogs eyes, nose and mouth.  If it is necessary to apply it to the dogs face, very carefully use a washcloth or a sponge.  After applying the mixture to all parts of your dog that may have been sprayed let it sit on the coat for at least 10 minutes. Then rinse the dog thoroughly.

He still smells a little, but at least I can let him in the house! Good luck Guido!! I feel your pain!

Spent many formative years in Ozark Mountain hill country.  Is it twisted that dank skunk smells kinda good to me?  The smell of gas is also strangely compelling.  Surely I'm not the only one.

That's true. Plus the smell of tomato juice lingers even after it has been cleaned off.

HAAAA!!! Exactly as I described to someone when it happened! I think I saw the tomato juice idea on the Partridge Family or the Brady Bunch or something.

Yeah, I considered it for about half a second. Decided that bathing a dog in tomato juice wouldn't have been the wisest of ideas. One shake and I'd be cleaning tomato juice off the ceiling for years to come.

Febreeze? I thought you have to bathe your pets in tomato juice or something (at least that's what I heard).

Good luck with that smell!

I wish I could send a smell via Internet. I kid you not.
I sprayed the swine hound with Febreze (I looked, safe for dogs / cats) the night of the incident. Result? He rolls on his back and rubs himself on the carpet! LOL!!! CRAP!

Skunk was really a shame. Walking in the dark on a country road and he had that sucker before I had a chance to react.

Ironic that I'd post something about Cletus eatin' a skunk as Calvin ate a baby one on the nightly drag the other day.
DAMN, my house (and hound) still smell! LOL!!!!
