Yeah D.O.E.,the Fatal Portrait tour was awsome dude, here is a picture from that tour man,it was amazing because all the material he played was from obviously "Mercyful Fate" and just the new album at the time 'Fatal Portrait"!!!

It was totally elite now I look back on it.There were bible bashers outside the Moore Theatre giving out pamplets on christianity begging us metal heads not to attend his show,.....we all laughed I remember and were wearing upsidedown crosses, bullet belts and black leather jackets...LOL! Good times!!!

I'm glad my advice worked out J.D.!

Here's another NWOBHM period band, these guys hail from Canada though:

DEAF DEALER      KEEPER OF THE FLAME             1986

Very good Heavy Metal, pretty straight forward with great instrumental potential as well as a good and engaging vocalist. If you're a sucker for twin guitar soloing, here's a fix!

Hey D.O.E......I like "Under Jolly Roger"(1987)   but the albums that did it  for me after you told me to check them out more closely are :

"Death Or Glory"(1989)............"Blazon Stone"(1991)......."Pile Of Skulls"(1992)..........""Black Hand Inn"(1994)......"Masquerade"(1995).....and ......"Rivalry"(1998).
I think that those are the band's best 7 albums only in my opinion though, they just seem to fall into place with my style and likings.

I can't get into the band's first album "1984 Gates To Purgatory"....2nd album 1985 "Branded And Exiled"   4th album 1988 "Port Royal"and the band's last 3 albums from year 2000 till 2005  "Victory"..........."Brotherhood"........and  "Rogues En Vogue". Those 6 albums I just can't get into, they bug me too much, very different from the other 7 I like.

I've gone over them tooth and nail so many times, and I just can't seem to like them,so at least I've found 7 albums by Running Wild that I do enjoy, thanks to YOU D.O.E.! Thanks my friend for directing me towards this band!

Blood On Ice just played here last night, actually! I still prefer Twilight of the Gods, because even if his voice wasn't as toned and perfected there, the songs connect deeper with me. But Blood On Ice is an incredible album as well, we're talking of the very first league of Viking Metal here!

Funny you should mention the first four albums... It's the period I don't know that well... YET! I started with Blood Fire Death and have been checking them out from that landmark!

Fenriz of Darkthrone suggesting Heavy Metal? Did the Norse hit his head somewhere? Just kidding, I respect Fenriz!

Glad to know you found Running Wild to your liking (at least a great deal of it!)! What were the albums that did it for you?

RUNNING WILD   MASQUERADE   1995

Hey D.O.E. (lol!) Yeah,I've been studying "Running Wild" for the last couple of weeks and I've found that the band has 13 studio albums and I actually like the majority of 7 of them!
The other 6 albums,I can't get into at all,but at least there are 7 that I do like!!

Thanks for the recomendation DelivererofEvil!!!!!!   [Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by DelivererofEvil from Tuesday, April 28, 2009 5:31:56 AM)

Right on D.O.E.,yeah Bathory..Quorthon's vocals on Twilight Of The Gods are alittle bit 'out of control" and kinda irritating, but the music is like you say..its very deep. I really like Bathory's first 4 albums the best.

Have you ever heard Bathory "Blood On Ice"?  It have the same vocals as Twilight, but the music is alittle better even I thought.

Manilla Road I have heard because "Fenriz" of Darkthrone suggested this album before. Interesting album for 1983.

MANILLA ROAD                     CRYSTAL LOGIC                                   1983

Great album of straightforward US Heavy Metal, very very good, with great guitars and a very good vocalist. This is a band I am discovering and this album in particular is the one fans recommend to start exploring this legendary, even if under rated band: MANILLA ROAD!
[DelivererofEvil] Tuesday, April 28, 2009 5:31:56 AM
Hehehehe, glad to see you're giving Running Wild another chance J.D.!

About my suggestion for RITUAL, please don't take it as an order, didn't mean for it to sound like it. Re Bethe's guitar style takes a while to sink in, at first his licks and solos sound a bit confused, but once you've listened to the albums a few times, you start to understand where he's going.

I've been listening to this more and more, lately:

BATHORY                                 TWILIGHT OF THE GODS                                               1991

This is the perfect Viking era Bathory album. Its is grandiose in its atmosphere, simply jaw-dropping. So if you like more epic sounding themes in music, here's a perfect treat for you!

The only thing against it is Quorthon's voice, even though it is clean, he still hadn't quite learned how to control it yet. I like it but it might be a detractor if you don't like less-than-perfect vocals.

KING DIAMOND      VOODOO           1998

I really only like 3 King Diamond albums out of his carrer and would only recomend 1986 "Fatal Portrait"...1998  "VOODOO" and 2003  "The Puppet Master".
Most fans will argue to throw in 1987's "Abigail" and maybe I should but I am the only KD fan who does'nt like Abigail!

RUNNING  WILD   BLAZON STONE    1991

Actually,I just heard this album for the first time last week and the majority of it is pretty good for heavy metal at least in my opinion that is.A couple of songs I don't care for but the majority of it I do like.

Not saying all of you would like this, but it reminds me alittle bit of "Saxon" at times with alittle bit of old Iron Maiden thrown in there.
[J.D. DIAMOND] Friday, April 24, 2009 3:48:34 AM
Hey,right on MG...I heard this album the week it was released by a friend who made me listen to it!! I was 14 years old at the time and remembered how killer it was,so new and fresh.....who would of ever thought back then that they would end up being metal's most lamest band in the world? Not me at that time.

You Know I bought that album as a Import before they were even famous.... I head it on a program called out of the attic. A show on at midnight every saturday nite when I lived in Florida, where they play new music, ect.. no-one even heard of them, So I called a record store and they ordered the album for me....  Funny thing is no-one I know like that album.. or the band.   Then a few years later on,, all those people were like oh yeah this album is awesome...  I was like whatever.

LOL... It was a fluke thing that I heard it that nite..

Thats cool DelivererofEvil, but Ritual are just not my flavor or cup of tea.But I'm glad you enjoy them and I have nothing bad to say about them. There are many bands that I post and think they are awsome but many of us on here hate them, that is just not thier cup of tea either,it is what it is.  But I'm glad to see you posting "different bands" for us to check out.

I may not like the music here, but that album cover is awsome dude!!! lol!
