Perhaps. However, when one implies, one indicates by inference or association rather than direct statement, correct? Still do not believe I would employ the word allude but it is your party.

Not that I am all that familiar with the British educational system but, would not one refer rather than allude in this case? I mean, he made a direct reference , did he not? Spelling aside, I should think that when one wishes to make an intellectual attempt at an insult, one should be a bit more definitive, no?
