How many of you hate Metallica?

You do not have enough Respect Points to post in this topic.

And that is just fine with me, my friend. I have no problem with your opinion. It is yours and you are entitled. I will continue to enjoy some of their old music and you can hate them. HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Honestly, it is not that big of a deal. I am not a die-hard Metallica fan. I like some of their stuff. Mostly their old music from the albums you mentioned prior to 'Justice. There is a song or two I like from the Black album but, by and large, I do not care for their stuff these days. As far as their "look"...well, it does not bother me at all. I mean, take a close look at ME!! HA!!!!!!!!!!!! One of the nurses at my doctor's office was listening to Raw Steel one day while I was there and she said, "You would never know it to look at you that you do this kind of music..."  SO true!

I have to "respectfully dis-agree" with you and Head Banger here Freeze...as yes I do condem Metallica's "image" as it "suks".....

...but most importantly...I in my personal opinion "hate" Metallica's "MUSIC".  If you guys like Metallica's "music" after 'And Justice For All"(1988) then I am not bashing you guys persnally at all,but it is the "MUSIC" first that I can't take after the album "And Justice For All".   I don't think that thier music from "The Black Album" reflects anything from the 1980's,for me its way to "watered down" and un-like And Justice...and of course before that album.

The Black Album,Load,Re-Load,St.Anger and Death Magnetic ...all 5 album's music is what I am trashing here...thier 'image" is the "ICING ON THE CAKE" for me.

Again,if you guys like some of thier music after the album "And Justice..."..then I am not saying that you guys suck(lol!)...but I just wanted to make it clear that I am bashing Metallica's music first, thats why I hate this band.

To me,they created a "cult" following in making the albums "Kill 'Em All"........"Ride The Lightning"......."Master Of Puppets".....and ...eh...even .."And Justice For All".....all 4 albums they summoned a cult classic metal following ....
...and then with the "Black Album"...they waded up thier long time fans who crave this Metallica sound and threw them in the garbage and said "Metal is over guys...get over it". Lars actually said this on MTV.

That is why I hate this band, and as I've mentioned above...thier "image" is the real icing on the cake.

They had a metal image when they wrote killer metal albums, and they have a non-metal image now they do not write killer metal albums.

Just like Priest with "Turbo"...they did not have a killer metal image with Turbo.

But I understand what your saying here Freeze, just wanted to make clear why I hate them.  Music first.

So here's the thing, I do not "hate" Metallica. I do not hate Rick Springfield. I do not hate Snoop Dog. Seems like a bit of an overreaction to a band, for me.

Back in the early 80's, Metallica was it. They were the only real Metal band that was not "selling out" to high hair and lipstick. They put out some GREAT music. In fact, I even like a song or two from Black. The majority of their music today is really self-indulgent and kind of just a re-hash of all they have done over the years. They are not what they were, I agree.

I really could not care less about their haircuts. I know our beloved JD is concerned about aesthetics and I understand that. I really prefer to listen to the music first. While a "look" is important, I like to take the music for what it is and go from there. In the case of Metallica, they are great musicians and they have some wonderful material. They have a strong, loyal following, just as Priest has. I do not mean to suggest they are anything close to our boys but they are not "crap". They are not "sell outs". They have just reached a point where they are writing music that does not appeal to as large a group as they did twenty years ago. (Hmmm...can anyone say 'Nostradamus'???)

I have done some old Metallica covers. They have some timeless songs. I do not see myself buying their newest album or really anything after the Black album but I do not agree that they "suck".

Here is our version of Whiplash. I think that is one of those songs that is always worth "cranking up"......!!

Yeah i never really liked Metallica either, i would take Priest over every band any day though =P. However some songs i like and i'll admit it. Leper Messiah is probably my favourite that song really owns! There are a few others but can't be bothred to mention them. Lars really lets them down he sucks as a modern metal drummer now. Replace Lars with Scott and wey hey! I hope Priest will give us another album i pray to God they do. I love Nostradamus really really love it but i want to hear another diamond amongst the rust another Painkiller or something on Jugulator heaviness but less cheesy. Give us some more awesome drumming Scott!!! Priest dominates!

Holy crapola!! THIS is present-day Metallica?!? Oh, man...one could easily mistake them for some other, non-metal band.

I agree with you here on an great number of points. Once, they were GODS to me. Saddest part of all.

In that pic, Trujillo is the only one who doesn't look completely goofy. Might just have to put on some Suicidal Tendencies in his honor.

Look at this poor excuse for a "metal band"? What kind of image for metal is this bullshit?  Metallica turned out to be the worst metal band there ever was,and probly ever will be. Being into "metal" in 1983 at the age of "13"  I was around in the true metal era and was raised on metal's philosophy, ideology and aesthetics.Metallica used to be a band that defended this "law" of codes, and now they are the example of  "what not to be" for new up-coming metal bands.

I fucking hate this band with a passion, they are true back-stabbers and betrayers to the max. Shame on them for posing as a metal band, and shame on anyone who likes this band in this day and age.If there was a lower grade than an "F" I would give it to Metallica. Yuk.

Wow that Some Kind of Monster DVD from 2001 blew total ass. What were they (Metallica) thinking? They really had some bad albums after their heads grew way too big from the Black Album which sucks too..

Bass doesn't make albums great (unless your like Geezer Butler haha) but the Justice album defniitly would have been a lot better with better production.

Bring James vocals more up front.

Make the drums 5 fuckin times louder.

Put some goddamn Mid on the guitars and make them like the first three albums.

And most importantly, include the fucking bass this time!

perhaps its more easily enjoyed if you didnt have the early stuff first???  I was never that into metalica in the 80's so I can handle the black album, some is good.

Say waht we might about metalica, over the years how many instrumental covers do they have?  must be something?

Has anybody noticed that And Justice for All.... is always credited as a great album, yet the bass is almost inaudible.

[Bazookajoe_666] Wednesday, April 01, 2009 12:13:44 PM
I enjoyed the Black album for what it was. It had some ballads and rock tunes for sure but it did have some heavy as shit songs. Like Through The Never, I'd say is the closest to the good Metallica, Sad But True is heavy as fuck. Enter Sandman is catchy but lyrically it's not amazing. The rest is kinda meh after the first few tunes.

icecreamman is right in my opinion Darth...even though Hetfield and Ulrich forged Metallica's sound....it was "Cliff" who had the right attitude supporting his denim and the band's thrash metal image, and in keeping thier sound the way it was....Cliff always said he did'nt want to "change" at all.Metallica is the worst disappointment the metal industry has ever seen in my opinion. The band's first 3 albums kick ass...thier 4th "And Justice For All"..was ok...then starting from the "Black Album"..and up to now...they are absolutely terrible.

I don't about that.   I think the band wanted to expand their musical horizons and they found a willing producer in Bob Rock.  ...And Justice for All isn't a bad album either, as it was my introduction to the band.

You know it is kind of funny that Metallica are betrayers of metal, yet they have Metal in their name. What a joke.

When I first heard Kill em' All and Ride the Lightning , I thought they were amazing, and then I heard their newer stuff. IT SUCKS.

Cliff was the heart and soul of early metallica.

Metallica died with Cliff.
