I can't speak for everyone on the forum, but ultimately, I like the variety in their discography. I do like Nostradamus, but I agree that this would be the time, if ever, for them to put out a serious british metal offering. I would love to see something along the lines of Defenders of the Faith mixed with Angel of Retribution. And I don't think the other 4 members of Priest would appreciate being lumped in with the Winter Songs thing. That was a Halford deal, something Rob wanted to cross off his bucket list. I just think that doing the British Steel revival tour right after releasing a new album, was bad timing. I think a short Nostradamus tour to promote their new material and a summer British Steel tour would have made more sense, but hey, I'm not in the music industry, what do I know. I just hope to hear something awesome before they hang up their axes.

Yeah Hellrider what we are seeing here is our favorite band has been getting soft on us all the way around. 5 long years have passed since Angel of Retribution and all that there is to show for is Nostradamus and Winter Songs. Who knows what kind of mood the band members are in at the time they write the next album? Getting a killer british metal album from these guys is not a "shoe in" at all as we all know, the next LP may turn out like Ram It Down for all we know. But this is what 95% of members on this forum like isn't it? The all like the fact that they never know what they will get from Judas Priest...could be a Painkiller, could be a Turbo, could be a British Steel, could be a cross between Nostradamus and Winter Songs...thats what almost everybody likes here is the fact that they can't count on one particular style. That's funny you should say that. TSO was just here and I just bought the cd with Wizards in Winter on it for my obsessed boys! I've had quite a few listens of Winter Songs now too, and there's one more song on there that reminds me of something else. It has a similar vibe to Billy Idol's "Yellin' at the Christmas Tree" off of Devil's Playground. I also have difficulty with the tinkling from Holy Night. Maybe some more listens and I'll get over it. My faves are still Get Into The Spirit and my all time favorite and kick*ss version of We Three Kings. I wish he sang at my church. Maybe Rob, Bruce Dickinson and Geoff Tate will do their Three Tremors cd/tour idea one day. That would be crazy! Three phenomenal singers together making some beautiful operatic metal. I listened to the whole cd. I really liked it! Yay, I now have some other hot rockin' holiday tunes besides Trans-Siberian Orchestra to put a smile on my face. Great job, HALFORD! |

Rob singing those songs in church...all part of a Heavy Metal sermon!!

But after about 3 listens, I started to really like it. I really like the lyrics and it's very heartfelt. I also love Rob's voice. After I got over the fact that this album isn't as metal as I was hoping for, I realized that Rob redid these songs with class, metalled them up as much as he could without losing the original song. I think he did a brilliant job in that respect. All the church hymns he redid I just absolutely love, both the original version and his. If Rob sang these songs in church, you'd find me there! | | Vaillant 3.0 wrote: | | Okay, just finished listening to Halford 3. First thoughts:
The first three songs were great!! Then it kinda flopped a bit with 'Winter Song'...can't seem to like that one. Although I did like 'What Child is This?' (one of my favorite X-mas songs) and thoroughly enjoyed 'Christmas for Everyone','I Don't Care', 'Holy Night ' (the twinkling sound fx are annoying, though) and 'Come All Ye Faithful'.
So, in a nutshell: It's good...was just hoping for more fast-paced stuff. Hmmm...maybe a few more listens is in order? |
