To be fair to Edward the Great, it actually goes all the way up to 2003. Number of the Beast happened to be the first song I played from it because, well I thought it was a cool song name. I play Brave New World and AMOLAD all the time, I used to diss Dance of Death as overrated but I've come around to it, likewise a fair amount of the 90s stuff grew on me after several playings and after hearing recordings of Bruce singing Blaze-era stuff.
I know Maiden's 80s stuff has been in the media all the time, what with the Somewhere Back in Time tour. But remember that in the tour before that they played the new album in its entirety, a tour I seriously regret not going to, as everyone I know who did go said it was fantastic, and all the songs worked brilliantly live. I think both of us would agree that Priest couldn't pull that off with Nostradamus.
Anyhow, I don't wish to sound bolshy in any way- I just felt compelled to defend a band I love very much.

When Maiden is mentioned its always something from the 80's,again Priest hasn't set the world on fire either but like I said they have Painkiller,Jugulator and Angel Of Retribution to wield in front of Maiden fans while Maiden doesn't have any records as strong as those 3 albums from Judas Priest since 1988's Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son album.I realize this is just all opinions but I hear 95% of people talk about Angel Of Retribution but when it comes to Maiden they talk about the 1980's for some reason? Hummmm

I agree JD, whenever most people talk about Maiden, they bring up their albums from the 80s to show how awesome they are, whereas with Priest you have stuff from the 70s, 80s and more recent releases like the 3 albums you mention. Maiden really needs to go back to their 'roots' to give fans a reason to continue to think they are awesome, lol. Fans like me anyways. Angel Of Retribution blows any recent Maiden out of the water I believe. I also believe Priest can certainly bring out an album next which will kick Maidens butt, LOL! But who knows in the world of heavy metal.

I fully agree with Guido 100%,I think that Iron Maiden gets too much credit for songs that are overrated and I'm talking about the last 20 years again! Well I've never seen Priest or Maiden live, but I can say without a doubt who I would rather see - Priest. I want to see Maiden live too, but if I see Priest live I will die happy LOL! I'm the biggest Priest fan I know  which isn't hard where I am haha.

Actually they did say somewhere that the new material is different from the last 3 albums. Its got some different stuff overall going on compared to everything they've done.

IRON MAIDEN guitarist Janick Gers revealed to BBC News in November that the band was on its way "to Paris for three weeks to work on some new stuff." He added, "The most important thing for a band is to create new music, otherwise you're not valid — you become a parody."

I think it's part of the reason they spend so long in between albums these days. There has to be 15 songs instead of 8 or ten and you have to pretty much fill up the available space on the cd. Even bad ideas get stretched out into songs. Number Of The Beast, 8 Songs, 9 if you have the version with Total Eclipse which ruins the continuity of the album. Piece Of Mind, 9 songs. Powerslave 8 songs. This is the way forward for Maiden.

I can almost gaurantee this next Iron maiden album will be "boring". They are anything but "consistant" and there has been no news on the album sounding like something "old-school" so prepare this one to be a big bore with 9 minute tracks and average material. Metallica used to be good too. 8 or 9 songs, most of them between 5 and 8 minutes, still made for only a 45 to 50 minute album. And the songs varied so much they never got boring. Then they did Black album which had 12 songs but they made sure the songs were shorter, don't think theres any over 6 minutes. After that they went to shit as we know but initially they had the right idea.

Agreed again, Back in Black is a great example of how an album should be - no mucking about trying to show the listener how long and awesomely they can play, just 9 fantastic songs that don't bore you and leave you wanting to listen again. I was STOKED they played Shoot To Thrill at the concert here, it's my favourite off that album. It's one of the highest selling albums of all time for a reason.

| Guitarist JESPER STRÖMBLAD Quits IN FLAMES - Feb. 12, 2010 |

Guitarist Jesper Strömblad has officially quit Swedish metallers IN FLAMES. He says in a statement, "I have decided it is best for me to leave IN FLAMES and to quit the band permanently.
"The last 17 years have been a blast, and I am proud to have been part of this great journey, with the most talented and amazing people anyone can wish to have the privilege to work with. I'm also the luckiest guy in the world, to have the BEST fans in the world, who have been supporting me during my difficult times. It means the world to me, and I'm determined to fight and defeat my demons once and for all…. and by the help from you guys, I'm on my way.
"I'm far from done with music, metal, or whatever my direction is taking me, so be sure to hear from me in the future."
The remaining members of IN FLAMES have released the following statement regarding Jesper's decision to leave the band:
"We are losing a great guitar player and musician, but in order to keep a very dear friend this is probably for the best. If this feels right for Jesper, we are behind him 100% on his decision.
"It is way too early to speculate about the future and possible replacements and things like that. However, we can assure you that IN FLAMES will continue as a band, release albums and tour the world.
"The door to IN FLAMES is always open to Jesper. We are, and will always be, behind Jesper 100% on his way to recovery."
Wearing a "Rehab Is For Quitters" shirt, Strömblad — who checked himself into a rehabilitation clinic early last year in order to receive treatment for his alcohol addiction — rejoined IN FLAMES on stage on December 11, 2009 at Hovet in Stockholm, Sweden for the last two songs of the group's set, "Take This Life" and "My Sweet Shadow". The band performed the tracks as a six-piece, with Strömblad's temporary replacement, Niclas Engelin from the Swedish band ENGEL, playing alongside Jesper.
The sold-out show was attended by 8,335 people, making it IN FLAMES' biggest headlining show ever.

Engelin had helped IN FLAMES on a couple of occasions in the past and is no stranger to the band's songs or the touring life. |
