Anyone out there?
[BLOOD SUCKER Esquire] Wednesday, December 17, 2008 9:46:42 PM
There is nothing wrong with a solid work ethic. In fact, I'm one for believing that your work does define you. High standards and attention to detail, raising the bar for those around you, and inspiring your fellow employee. Working 9-5 makes you average. Working 845-515 makes you good. But working 8-6 makes you great. Whatever you do, you are not your job title or description. Do more than the other guy. Step in and fill in those gaps. Professionals are well-rounded in their chosen fields. And great managers know the company business from the ground up.....and are willing to step into any situation to assist should the need arise. Leaders do what the other guy won't. That defines your reputation. That defines your standard. And that defines the man. Work is an honorable trade. Most people in third world nations will never have the priviledge of working for wages. Never complain about your employment. It's a priviledge to work, not to be taken lightly in a free society. Happy Christmas to all! a. Hammerstein

I never got paid at home, but used to colect a fair bit of cash doing sidewalks around the neibourhood.  was a good deal.

I wish I could pay the neibourhood kids.  I end up doing it.  my kids dont shovel for some reason.  ah well, someone shoveled my drive a week ago, that was a nice touch.  I will get mine doing more.

Well, IDK, as I said I did all those things when I was a kid, and still do, and never got paid for it. I guess its different if you have somebody elses kids doing it, tho. I never cleared snow from my neighbours driveway...

In any case, 45 minutes over midnight here, so its about time I get to sleep. See you tomorow, I hope.

Well, time to start dinner! A Good Evening to you all!
[Deep Freeze] Wednesday, December 17, 2008 5:41:18 PM
Well, it gets the job done and it gives the kids a sense of accomplishment. They learn to work and earn money and be responsible. Does not sound all that "weird" to me!

In the States, it is traditional to pay neighborhood kids to shovel snow, mow lawns and such.

Well, all I can say is, turn up the heating... But, hey, it will get better. It cant keep snowing forever! Specialy not in a desert.

It appears that we lost Ron, so I might as well ask you. Whats this with paying kids to clear the snow? Is that like a tradition or something?

Ah, I see. Not getting any better, eh? Well, heres hoping that you get better.

As for me, I just have a cold that I keep under control with some C-vitamin and my Iron Maiden scarf. Typycal winter, what can I say... We are getting to used to having no snow, just a lot of cold and rain.

HA!!!!!!!!!!!! Very nice of you, Ron!   Yeah strat, a little warming would be great. It is especially hard on me when it is cold because of the hardware in my back! I have been aching like crazy for days..more than usual. The medication isn't really helping. I have my recliner by the fireplace and I am trying to sit quietly.
[_strat_] Wednesday, December 17, 2008 5:14:41 PM
You pay kids to clear the snow?!?! I cleared snow every winter since I can remember, and never got a cent for it... Your kids, or just from the neighbourhood?

Strat, in my neighborhood, especially with Christmas right around the corner, kids with shovels are aplenty.  I have these twins that come by and ask for $6, I give 'em $10 and they shovel all the way to the garage and into the alley.  It works out really well.

I think I'd like the hook method better...like how a fighter jet lands on an aircraft carrier lol  both will work, though!!  I wouldn't want to have a hook hanging off the back of by belt and fall down though, that might hurt a little!!

Sure I have, my fault for saying Nevada, I meant near Vegas, wasn't thinking lol

[Return_of_Darth_Painkiller_0870] Wednesday, December 17, 2008 8:45:31 AM
Good Morning, my fellow Metallians!!!!  Drink some coffee, crank up some Priest and bang your heads while causing those around you severe pain of the ear!
[Deep Freeze] Wednesday, December 17, 2008 8:37:23 AM
Perhaps you are not familiar with Lake Tahoe or the Sierra NEVADA Mountains????? HAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAA!!! Yes Ron, we have mountains. Matter of fact, we have Mt.Charleston which is about an hour from Vegas. The city of Las Vegas sits in a "bowl", if you will.  It is surrounded by foothills which get snow. The desert is actually a very cold place, it's just that the rain has trouble reaching us because of the surrounding terrain.

Hey there Scorp and DF...it's been eerily quiet on the Board this morning...Are there any mountains in Nevada?  Plan a ski trip or get a sled and enjoy the snow.  Be careful what you ask for Scorp, you just might get it!!  lol

HB, I don't know where you're from, but in Indiana here, we've had days like you've described.  It hasn't happend in awhile, but you never forget 'em either.  I live near the Windy City, so I can relate to wind chill.  Sometimes we have to leave the faucets slightly on so the pipes don't freeze.  Stay warm my friend and I hope this isn't what your entire winter is like!!

Good morning/Day fellow Metalheads!!

It's 19F, the warmest at this hour all week with 4 inches of fresh snow waiting to be shoveled!!

1 week 'til Christmas and I still have a lot of shopping to do.  Nothing puts me in the spirit faster than wrapping gifts!!

Also, who here has played 'Rock Band' or 'Guitar Hero'??  Yep, 42 yrs. old and I played 'Rock Band' the other night.  Yes, I was not in my usual state when this happened, and I totally sucked (played drums).  My lowest score was the first song w/68% and a high of 88%, and that was on easy.  We did try Painkiller on easy and I scored a 77%.  My 2 friends and I had fun though.

ps...DF, I couldn't find a 'game' thread, so I posted this here  lol
