Well...keep in mind...she's the mother of 10. Me being the youngest, and most being of the "hippie generation". She's heard Ozzy from Black Sabbath thru his solo career, and still can't understand his singing. Plus the music's too fast, & loud for her taste....but that day she "got it".

I certainly can see that point, but I want (as any good parent should) him to be better than me. I just don't push as some parents do...and I feel when pushed too far it becomes a rebellion on the part of the kid. Thus undermining the intention of the parent.

Yes, you would definitely have to share Ozzy's lyrics to break through the visual preconceptions.

Just don't spread it around.  I don't want my "sensitive side" to get out .    Seriously, I think that's why people are driven to have kids.  We all want someone like ourselves around.  It makes life so much easier when we are agreeing instead of arguing all the time.  How many times have any of us said something like " I wish I could clone myself so that I could  .  .  .  .  .  " ?

You may do better by showing her the lyrics. At least that's how I connected w/my mom w/Ozzy's Miracle Man. She'd seen the story on the news, and I shared Ozzys funny poke at them. It was certainly "a moment".

Damn bro...you do get it! I knew we connect for more than the few dozen previous reasons.

I think my mom is pretty tolerant to it, but she wouldn't hear it on a daily basis. She allows me to listen to what I like, as long as I do well in school. I only showed her Nostradamus CD because she knew about the prophet and thought he was very wise. If anything, she made fun of one of the songs.

As far as having something in common with your son at that level, I think its great!! The more you have in common with your son the more you two can bond, IMO.

Not for me.  I totally get it.  It's a real special time when you connect with a person at that level.  It does not happen often and it's even more special when it's your child and you can see a part of yourself in them.

Is your mom usually hip to heavy metal? I mean...I know my son thinks I'm a cool dad, and he also understands that I'm still his parent, and NOT his friend, but we have a blast so far together in life with each others company. That's been very important to me...that I could identify with him in whatever he may be going through. Am I taking that to a more intense level? Is it too much?

We're not shy. We'd perform in front of others, and have done so to do our part in introducing some of Jason's friends to Heavy Metal before. I think we put on quite a show. What with the strobe lights, and multicolored lightbulbs in the lamps. LOL

We haven't had any problems yet here in Bell Gardens. There's A/C in the house but its rarely used. We have ceiling fans instead.

The twin chairs mentioned. Now picture each of us one foot on the seat, the other on the top. One of portraying KK, and the other Glen...jamming out, and headbanging...then jumping over the back, landing on 1 knee during subsequent solos/ Ohhhhh man fun fun fun!

I laughed too until it aired at 8 pm.  The power came on about 2 minutes after and a DWP truck came to the house to make sure we had power.  I guess the pen is indeed mightier than the sword.

That was cool!!! I shared my Nostradamus CD with my mom on the car today on the way to the store. She heard the 1st CD, from Dawn of Creation to War. She seems to have liked it!! She didn't give me her opinion, though.

Hot, and sweaty, but nowehere near what Tim just went through. My story's simple. My son, and I just finished a full performance of Nostradamus on air guitar...standing up on the jaguar shoe shaped chairs...jumping all over the living room, and putting on a stage show to no-one. LOL Had a blast, but sweating profusely atm.

Extremely small.  It's in the south of France, but it's a separate country.  It's the country where Grace Kelly became Princess Grace.

I've had the same dream since I was 13.  One of these days, I'll sit in the tunnel at Monaco while Formula 1 cars scream through it.  I don't think they let anyone in there during an actual race, but maybe practice.  I don't know, but I'll die trying.  I'd also love to go to Cento, Italy.  The home of my family.

Right now with the dollar being as low as it is,  European travel is just very expensive. My Ex takes my daughter to Greece each year and half the time his family has to pay half of the cost because he can not afford it each year and he earns a middle class wage.

Not at all, I went to Greece, handed the kid over to Yia Yia and partied the whole time I was there almost. None of my family in the states helped me with me child so it was the first break from parenthood I ever had. I broke plates and bottles on floors (even though it is not supposed to happen anymore) and I had the best time ever. The only drawback was missing hearing english. I went to dinner one night with all people who could speak english and they all spoke in greek all night. I told the bartender to keep em comming.

I lived in Northern Virginia for a while.  Does it get as hot in your area.  I can remember 95 and the same for humidity for most of the summer.  At least we don't have the humidity here.  If it were 110 and high humidity it would be a killer !
