Dont forget 1916.

That album is fucking horrible.

Give or take like 4 or 5 songs.

[J.D. DIAMOND] Wednesday, December 09, 2009 5:38:57 AM

Like I said, its "alright". Back At The Funny Farm is an excellent track,so is "Shine",Another Perfect Day the song is cool too,but I hate "Dancing On Your Grave" ,the guitars sound like Van Halen/Hagar although this record came out long before Hagar was a part of Van Halen I know, but those riffs on that song sound Van Hagarish and it kills it for me,not only that track but one other I can't remember right now. The album is not shit,I'm not calling it that but its my least favorite album in Motorhead's discography besides the worst album "March Or Die".  I wouldn't say that Another Perfect Day sounds the closest to traditional british heavy metal. I would say that 2004 "Inferno" is not only the best Motorhead album of all time but the closest sound to traditional british heavy metal. I guess its just all about opinions really, but cool to hear each others outlook.

Can't understand why you don't rate Another Perfect Day. As far as traditional British heavy metal goes I would say APD is the closest album they have to that. Songs like APD, Dancing On Your Grave, I Got Mine and Shine would be right up your alley, I would have thought.

Eahhhhwelll they really are NOT a "heavy metal" band jimmy, but really I can see "what" your saying. But thier "sound" is not so much metal to my ears, its "heavy rock".  Lemmy has said it too about this very subject,Motorhead are rock and roll but again,I can definately understand what you are saying, because as I mentioned they do dip in and out of traditional heavy metal riffs and sounds,so I can see your point.

I reckon Motorhead were a loud rock n roll band up until about 86-87, On Orgasmatron an Rock N Roll they became more metal. They do still do a few rock n rolly type songs but i think they have a more metal sound these days.
[J.D. DIAMOND] Wednesday, December 09, 2009 4:51:09 AM

Well of course Motorhead!!!! lol!!!!!  But Motorhead are really not a "heavy metal" band, they are a "rock" band as Lemmy says October 2nd at the Showbox down town Seattle..."Hellow Seattle",....."We are Motorhead".....and We Play Rock And Roll....Weve come to kick your ass!!! lol!!!!  But some of Motorhead's riffs dip into the realm of traditional british heavy metal from time to time really,I can see people throwing them in with heavy metal artists like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden.Saxon are both rock and roll and traditional heavy metal,Biff has said that many times,he says thier albums are made up of classic rock songs and traditional british heavy metal.

But going back to Motorhead, yeah they are fucking consistant!! 19 studio albums and only 2 of them are under-par....well,I actually don't mind the 1983 album"Another Perfect Day",it may not be thier best but I still like the LP.But 1992"March Or Die" is just not Motorhead to me,too commercial, the songs were really not good and thats the album that has "I Ain't No Nice Guy After All"..the one crappy ballad with Ozzy..yuk!!  That whole album is just lame to me,but hey only one album out of 19 is pretty damn impressive!!! Motorhead may be the most consistant band EVER.

Yeah I know Freeze, your right. But I still would rather not even see the band if I got a kick ass album.Take the Painkiller tour, they didn't come to Seattle on that tour, but I didn't care because I got a kick ass album.I would rather have a great album and not even see the band.Other people don't see it this way,as the majority of fans want to grab a six pack and hear Breaking The Law for the umteenth time,so that is just not for me. I'm not interested in seeing the band live really,I'm interested in hearing something new and kick ass from them. But if I want a band that cranks out album after album,I'll have Saxon to thrive on then lol!!!!

I see your point man but I figure Priest tours so much because they are legends and people want to see them. They have put out SO much material that a Priest song is everywhere you look. Touring keeps the band close to the fans and I would think that is why they are so into it. Of course, this is all conjecture on my part but it does make sense when you think about it.

I read something once where Glenn mentioned that the band has an abundance of material and always does, even when they finish an album. Putting out another is likely not high on their list since they have so much material available. I think he said they always have a few songs that do not make the album so they just shelve them. Things like concept albums are more important to them since it offers them a chance to do something different and does not include old or pre-written material. The fact that the record label wants new albums is clear by virtue of the "live" release.

Priest have earned the right to do it their way, when they choose. I get that. As for what they may or may not "owe" us, I figure they try to meet that obligation by touring so much.

The thing that stings me with Nostradamus is that the day they released it, of course I didn't like it,but I knew that it would be 4 fucking LONG years before  we got another studio album from this band that is the slowest band at releasing studio material!!!!   Fuckin A man, look at Saxon yet again, they released Lionheart in 2004,they released The Inner Sanctum in 2007 but that was only because Biff's house burned down to the ground in France, that was the ONLY reason they waited that long to release The Inner Sanctum in March 2007,but they released "Into The Labyrinth" in January 2009 so thats not even 2 years apart!!!

They will probably release ANOTHER studio album BEFORE Judas Priest releases thier next studio album.Saxon are able to do this because thier tours are much much shorter than Priests,I just wish Priest would not tour as much so that they could focus on releasing new material.I would rather have a brand new LP and miss the concert than wait 4 long years just so I could see the band.Give us more music!!!

I understand that HB. I guess what I am saying is, I understand where Max is coming from as far as what has been offered over the last few years. If one is inclined to want a "heavier" sound, the likes of which JD, 'Rider and Max have been discussing, then one could make the argument that Nostra was "selfish" or at the very least not what they were looking for in an album, yet there are an abundance of albums that offer the same songs from "glory years" that have simply been re-packaged and offered as various "Best Ofs". I get that.

Like you, I do not think it is some calculated effort on the band's part to seperate us from our money by playing on our devotion. I would be more inclined to believe that it is a marketing ploy by management or the record label. I just cannot picture Glenn sitting by the fire at his 150 year old, oak desk in the "parlor" of his estate, wearing a visor and monacle and tapping on an adding machine with stacks of gold coins in front of him as he totals up all his earnings from the hapless "sheep" that continue to purchase his re-hashed material in fancy new packages.
[Head banger] Tuesday, December 08, 2009 7:20:21 AM
yeah, managment, too many best ofs I get that.  the owing thing, well, even if one feels that way, which I dont "get" its going to do exactly no good.  the band decides.  how many people 3 years ago thought the band owed them a concept album?  about a long dead seer?  I bet 1.  they did it.

No, I'm not a nutswinger.

That is fucking retarded, you realise that right?

According to that, AGREEING with someone or simply LIKING someone, automatically makes you a nutswinger. Seriously dude, how old are you? Grow the fuck up. No offense.

I get what your saying about those two old tapes, I have Metal works on VHS, I traded it for a Deicide DVD, my buddy didn't know what he had. I'm with you on that one though that they should definitly get into gear and release this stuff but it is NOT there desicion. Its the record companies desicion, and Priest have had an absolute shit history with record companies.

Half the reason Rob got out of Priest to do his solo project was because of record companies. He contractually was not allowed to release solo music, he quit/got fired/who cares.

If they choose to release those I'd be right in line too on day 1, but I feel that those are NEVER going to be released again. Might as well just forget about it, and by some lucky surprise chance, we might get to see them someday again, highly unlikely though.

But you do really need to stop assuming that every single one of us goes out and guys every single thing the band release. I have almost the entire discography, BUT I only have ONE greatest hits CD, because it has sweet live shit on it, and the Metalogy boxset.

The other boxset that Priest have is unofficial and just a rehash from there shit record company Gull that they first signed to. Guess whats in the boxset.

Rocka Rolla, Sad Wings of Destiny, and then Rocka Rolla and sad Wings of destiny AGAIN in the Hero, Hero format. Brilliant, fuck Gull are retarded.

I like many others, refuse to buy the ridiculous amounts of Greatest Hits Cd's that bands have nowadays. There a good starting point, but thats all, I don't believe anyone owns a ton of greatest hits Cds from one band, if they were that serious they'd buy the discography instead, not 7 Greatest Hits Cds.

I do think the band cares what we say. Obviously KK does, have you looked at his site at all? He answers fan questions every month and it has loads of cool stuff.

Rob Obviously does too. The Halford Quorum was begging for YEARS for him to release the Rock in Rio show Halford did in 2001, and he finally did last year or this year, and DEDICATED IT TO THE QUORUM!. The fans! Who the fuck does that? Barely anyone.

The majority of best of's are marketed by the record companies and not the band. They endorsed one. The remasters.  Sony, who was not their company at the time, they released the Metalworks, which I believe the band was a bit short about it because it was not the back log they would have personally chosen, just like their original record company, Gull records who has released Sad Wings and  Rocka Rolla in so many formats it is rediculous. Once again, the band has no control over these "Bests" and I feel they owe us nothing but an excellent show, which they always deliver, and excellent future albums, as many as we can get. They are probably close to retirement, but I'm sure the next CD will be awesome, and in the vein of what we all crave.  So, what is all the bitching about?  The band has been on the road for almost 2 years solid. I don't recall any of you bitching when you were going to see a show, now just wait, and you shall be rewarded with a very asskicking CD!
And that's all I've got to say about this.

As I said, to a degree. I should think that the majority of decisions regarding album releases are a management issue, not a band personnel decision. I have to agree with Max as far as all of the "Best Of" crap. Like I said, how many do you need and just who says that any one particular song is the "best" or one of the "best"? That has always bugged me.

As far as "owing" the fans, well...I guess one could argue that we are the ones that pay the bills..in a way. Still, I hardly think that in and of itself is going to affect what they do next. I am sure they have a plan.

OK I suppose I will chime in now. While I am rather "put off" by the adjectives being used, I truly think I "get" what Max is saying...to a degree, anyway. I mean, there are way more than enough "Best Of" albums out there and besides, who is it that decides what is "best" for these albums anyway?? I mean, I may not necessarily agree with the song choices! It is quite like a decision that is made by the record company anyway...not the band.

I guess it is the right of all fans to have an opinion. I hardly think Rob or the guys are cackling with sinister glee as they count the money they have earned from their fanbase. They play the music we love and we buy the CDs and go to the gigs...perfect symbiotic relationship I suppose. I would think that the whole "British Steel Anniversary" tour this year is a GREAT example of marketing. Whether or not it was the band's idea or the management's is anyone's guess around this place. I lost Jayne's number and cannot call to ask her.

I think it is really about what each individual fan wants and what they are willing to spend. If there is nothing there that I want, I don't buy anything. I still have not purchased Nostra. I am not interested in it. Does not mean there is a focused effort to deny me anything.

[Head banger] Monday, December 07, 2009 4:51:06 PM
can I be a nutswinger of the highest order also?  I would be honored to be associated with joe on this one.  probably they release things that they, the record company, and their managment think will sell.  I too would like both those vids on DVD, but the band doesnt owe it to me.

Well, you need to remember that Rob left the band in 1991 and did not return until 2003. Therefore, 13 of these compilations were released during his abscence and 6 of them were released during the time when Priest had no leader singer and everyone was wondering if they were done. The record company was trying to keep their name out there so they were not forgotten in hopes that they did make a return, which THANKFULLY they did! Haven't you ever noticed that the CD stores only carry RECENT CD's lately? Releasing a best of every other year or so keeps their CD space filled rather than empty. These releases are NOT for the hardcore fans like us that already own every album. They are out there in hopes of attracting NEW fans. So what is wrong with that? Of all that you have listed, I only own Metalogy for my collection. Why would I bother with the others when I own everything in their catalog including all the remasters as well? They aren't making you buy anything!

Priest owes us a good show where they aren't messed up and they deliver the goods. They NEVER, and I repeat NEVER, disappoint when it comes to a show. We could argue all day about what songs they should play and never make everyone happy. They love their fans and show us that by touring all over the place and staying on the road for over a year at a time! They have given me more than I could ever ask for: incredible music and incredible shows that I will never forget!

No no no, you don't get it. At all.

Its not as easy as "digging it up and releasing it". Not by a long shot. The band have released EVERY single concert they've filmed professionally. They've officially stated this many times.

There is NO footage from Unleashed in the East. OR ANYTHING from that time period. NOTHING is official, anything that DOES exist is bootleg or just a few second live performance taped by the BBC or some shit.

THE FOOTAGE DOES NOT EXIST. GET OVER IT.

And no, the majority of us here are NOT fan boys or girls that will buy everything they release. That is so STUPID.

I haven't bought A TOuch of Evil: Live yet, am I fan boy? I Don't overly want to buy it either. I guess according to your theory that instantly makes me not a fan boy.

As for those of us that DO buy every single release the band puts out is because #1, they love the band and will support it to no end, you CANNOT bring someone down for supporting something. That is childish and pathetic.

#2 They have a broader sense of musical acceptability and are NOT "elitists" like you seem to be. They simple have a broader range of music they enjoy, and whether you like it or not doesn't mean its wrong, what you like and dont like is your opinion, it can also make you extremely close minded at the same time. If you listen to a lot of other stuff besides typical metal, forget everything I just said.

#3 Some of us are collectors, its NICE to be able to show off something, like a collection of great music. Buying shit releases is involved in that, but thats all subjective and extremely opinion based.

The band owes us nothing. They give us quality releases (could be better though) nearly every year. They tour the world almost EVERY YEAR many times over just to show the fans there love. Thats all the band can do for us, give us a great live show while they still can, and give us great releases while they still can because once there gone thats all we have left. Personally I'm gonna treasure my Priest collection once Priest are done. Are you?

I remember that about a year or so ago the band had a message up here saying that their previous record label had started releasing albums that looked like new ones and were actually just repackaged best-ofs: they suggested that it wasn't worth buying them as you wouldn't be getting anything new. The band do their best but sadly they don't own the rights to the music.

Record companies are responsible for the majority of what you posted. If they can make a dime off a band's back cattaloug they will.
Strange how you seem to think though because you bought a few CDs the band owes you some sort of individual debt. You want to bitch about the number or released "bests" then don't buy them. No one asked you to. Ask the record company why they release so many of them, not the band.

Amen J.D. Diamond! Amen brother!

They really should release a few killer albums. But I don't think it’s going to happen. When you look at the past two decades you will see that Judas Priest has not been busy putting out new killer material. On the contrary: they prefer to make a quick buck by recycling their older material over and over again. You want proof? Judas Priest has released more than 20 crappy best of albums between 1989 and 2009. I'm not kidding. I actually took the time to look it up, because it's absolutely mind-boggling:

1. Playlist: The Very Best of Judas Priest (2008)
2. Original Album Classics (2008)
3. Judas Priest (2008)
4. Hit Collection (2007)
5. The Essential Judas Priest (2006)
6. Metalogy (2004)
7. Metalogy Box Set Sampler (2004)
8. Deliverin' The Goods (2003)
9. Limited Edition Collector's Box (2001)
10. Limited Edition Collector's Sampler (2001)
11. Breaking The Law (2001)
12. Genocide (2000)
13. Simply The Best (1999)
14. Priest Live And Rare (1998)
15. The Best Of Judas Priest: Living After Midnight (1998)
16. Prisoners Of Pain (1996)
17. Judas Priest Star Box (1993)
18. Metal Works '73-'93 (1993)
19. Pure Classic Gold (1993)
20. Star Box Collection (1992)
21. The Sharpest Cuts (1991)
22. Super Best Judas Priest Collection (1990)
23.
Trouble Shooters (1989)

They force feed us the same old tired shit. I think since we paid for their lavish lifestyles we deserve better! All I can say is that the songs on the next album better be REALLY FUCKING GOOD. Priest better have learned from the turd-coaster known as Nostradamus.

After Angel Of Retribution was released in 2005,the band should of released a "KICK ASS ALBUM" in 2007 and another one in 2009 instead of wasting time with Nostradamus. 3 kick ass albums one right after the other wouldn't of hurt them any and we would of got loads of material to thrive on,but it is what it is I guess.

Having read some of these posts, I should like to say in defence of 'the kids' that a great many do regard Priest and Maiden on the same level musically, but Maiden have a very canny manager behind them who has made sure that they stay in the spotlight (this should not be equated with selling out- its what managers are are supposed to do after all). Priest simply haven't been pushed forwards enough in recent years and I feel that because of they have been left behind slightly. Maiden tours are much better publicised (certainly in the UK- the Priest Feast tour was very much word-of-mouth, though it sold out months in advance in Manchester- which proves their popularity) and as for shirts and merch, if you want to support both Priest and Maiden it is massively easier and cheaper to get hold of a Maiden tee- I have looked at the prices of stuff on this website and mostly its not cheap (£18- compare that to the prices on the Maiden website), but if I go to another retailer like Grindstore.com or HMV, the stuff simply isn't there. And I'm not just talking Priest vs. Maiden, Heaven and Hell are another band now very popular because they have promoted themselves or been promoted well- I see a lot of guys my age with their shirts.

If Priest aren't 'getting the attention they deserve' perhaps its because they haven't gone out and got that attention. Maybe they even want it that way- who knows?

LOL! So you hate BS,so what? I know more than one person that HATES Painkiller,Screaming For Vengeance, and I know somebody that HATES Killing Machine,so its your opinion.Killing Machine better than British Steel? No way in my opinion.Take On The World, Burnin' Up,Before The Dawn and Evil Fantisies are 4 tracks that are of less quality than anything off of BS...even United is better than Take On The World to me.
