Sincere thanks to all! That was the first time in YEARS that the Princess and I were out so late, especially at a bar!! Had the time of our lives! EVERYONE there was friendly and supportive and it was an environment that really makes you feel good. Spent time chatting with other musicians and sharing ideas. Listened to a couple INCREDIBLE bands. Had some VERY humbling compliments. It was just a wonderful evening.
It is easy to see from the videos that I am thoroughly enjoying myself, as were my bandmates. Our first show was just as perfect as we could have ever hoped for. Got an "invite" from one of the other, more established acts to join them on a "mini-tour" around Vegas at some other "locals" venues. Things are looking VERY good for us. Clearly we will get better as we play more shows. I tell you, had you heard some of these other acts, you would have been floored! I mean, these guys were simply remarkable. So tight. So entertaining. I learned a lot from them. I am flattered that they asked us to join them.
It's been a LONG time since I felt this way. The fire has been re-lit! All I can think of is playing again! I am really looking forward to it. I am looking forward to getting better. THAT will be the true pay off!!!

I am currently downloading pics and vids from our camera. It may take a little while. Not sure about that videos, either. We have a small, digital camera and it has a video feature but I really doubt there will be sound. I don't think there is , BUT.. several of my band mate's wives were filming , as were other "fans" so I am sure there will be live footage surfacing somewhere soon!!!!
The Princess was just beaming with pride and the rush was just indescribable. I am still swimming in awe. Dead tired and sore as all get out but it was worth every ache! I will be sharing what I have with all of you soon.

Well it's 4:10am here, I am exhausted, I have had about 3 hours sleep maximum thanks to our arsehole neighbours deciding to party it up tonight (something they have done many times since moving in in december). I have already been awake for an hour and couldn't get back to sleep, just when I think the music is stopping, it starts up again. I need a lot of sleep, so I am severely hacked off to say the least.

A very Happy Thursday to all from a very, very SOGGY Las Vegas! Just raining like crazy here and rather chilly. Makes for a very uncomfortable life for yours truly as my back is just aching! Nonetheless, had a FANTASTIC practice last night!! Oh man, we were just on the money with every song! I think we have a chance at a really good show this weekend!!!
Woke up this morning with a very slight sore throat but that is completely normal after practice. I am staying by the fire as much as possible. Have an appointment this morning with the trainer and I am DREADING it but, I shall sally forth! That clock is still ticking!!!

You know, for a guy like me that watches as much television as I do, this is terribly embarrassing to admit but....I am fascinated by a show called "Overhaulin' "..It is a reality series where these folks steal someone's car and turn it into a show car (kiind of like "Pimp My Ride", only way better.) ANYWAY, it is pretty embarrassing considering I only recently started watching and found out that it is NOT a "new show" but has been on the air for like, FIVE years!!

Hi Kiamat! I didn't add anything to what the other members said because, well they said it so well, I just had nothing else to add... Oh except that they have the best looking/sounding/photographic drummer of course lol.
Best of luck for your essay. Take your time, do as many drafts as you need and once you've writtten it, don't read it straight away. If possible, go for a walk, do something totally different and a few hours later get back to it to proof read it with a fresh mind. You'll do great though! I'm planning to do more work on Heavy metal as a genre, because it generally gets as bad a press in academic music journals etc as it does in the mainstream media, perhaps worse, which I've found really annoying, as people who are meant to be a serious authority on popular music shouldn't be so narrow minded- the idea still prevails that it 'isn't real music' and those few who have written about it favourably are very much rooted in the late 80s MTV stuff.
Anyway, big big hugs all round and I'll get back to everyone when I've finished it- but now I have to go start packing for going back to Uni. xx

I think I could not come up with the words to describe exactly why I love Priest so I'll just use imagry.
Priest is like lightning in a jar. When you open the jar such a rush of power and electricity comes out that every hair on your body stands at attention, that's how it feels to hear a priest song for the first time ever, and with many of the songs I still get that feeling even after hearing them thousands of times over. Hi Kiamat, I don't believe we have ever spoken before, so I just wanted to say HI and wish you well on your essay. I've been a Priest fan since I heard the album SFV in '82. I completely agree with everything Guido, Freeze and Becks said. I'd just like to add that the harmony between KK and Glenn is like no other duo in music. They are so different in their styles and yet they blend together so incredibly well. Rob's vocal ability is like no other singer - he can sing ANYTHING. He changes his voice to suit the song and when you listen to any one album, he sings differently on every song. That in itself keeps things fresh. When a singer can only sing one way, after awhile every song starts to sound the same. I have never had that deja vu moment when listening to Priest like I do with new Maiden or other bands. Some how, and I honestly don't know how they do it, but they are able to come up with new riffs and new melodies - nothing ever sounds like another song to me. The lyrics of Priest's music is also unlike other bands. I have found so much truth and insight into my own life listening to Priest. They pour their hearts and souls into every note and word and you can FEEL it. And as Becks said so well, they always make me feel better when I am down, they give me strength when I feel weak and they take me soaring even higher when I already feel on top of the world. They have a song for every mood and feeling.
Good luck with your essay! I'd LOVE to read it when you are done! When you write about something you love, the words just seem to come. I'm sure you will do very well [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by kiamat from Saturday, January 16, 2010 6:23:25 PM)

I'd like to know what it is you feel is most important about Priest's music and what sets them apart from other bands?
I don't want to take up anybody's time, I would have put this in a separate thread but its not really important enough for that (its just a 1000 word essay); I know that this website is a great example of a place where people from everywhere can come together and share their love of music without prejudice, so this is a kind of tribute, if you see what I mean.

I'll chime in on this too, as best I can anyways LOL!
For me the importance of Priests music lies in the fact that in many ways, they are heavy metal revolutionaries. The twin axe attack, the soaring vocals, the leather and chains. The thing that sets them apart from other bands is the fact they are unabashedly a heavy metal band - they have never had any qualms about saying they are a metal band, where other groups may shy away from the association due to the supposed social connotations. They have never compromised themselves, and have lasted a lot longer than most bands of any genre. Their music uplifts me when I am down, empowers me when I feel weak, and most of all, makes me incredibly happy. No other band has touched me in that way.
That's a short way of putting it anyways LOL! [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by kiamat from Saturday, January 16, 2010 6:23:25 PM)

I'll chime in here too, Kia, so long as I am properly cited and given royalty checks when this essay goes gold! HAAAA!!
For me, it was the blend of image and sheer musical talent. The dual guitars and harmony between them was one thing but put a singer with such a range into the mix and you had ultimate gold. My musical tastes range from the classics to the modern and ANYONE who can do what Priest have done for decades still amazes me. It isn't a Charlie Daniels' "Devil Went Down to Georgia" one-off, rather a lifetime of innovation. As many have said here, they do NOT grow stale having followed a formula for years. Not a simple 4/4 verse, hook, chorus. No gimmicks. Play Bach against Priest and you'll find more of a "formula" in Bach, I guarantee it.
Yes, their ability to do it again and again without being profane is huge. As they themselves have said, their look is as important as are their musical abilities. For me, if you put that much raw talent (guitars and vox) together with such insight in terms of image and you can only have the monster that is Priest.
Feel free to edit what is truly raw emotion at will. [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by kiamat from Saturday, January 16, 2010 6:23:25 PM)

You know Kia, you will likely get a multitude of responses to that question..each of them different! I know what sets them apart for me. I have always said that it is the melodic nature of their music and the lyrics which are thoughtful and never profane. I find that particularly refreshing since it is all too common for bands to resort to one four-letter word after another when they write songs. Priest do not do that. They do not need to. They combine thoughtful lyrics with melodic riffs and a pounding low-end that never overshadows the main riff. It always "stays in the pocket".
Priest started coming on strong at a time when punk was gaining strength and I think they literally saved "hard" rock music. Their image launched a revolution and, through it all, they kept a sound that many have tried to imitate yet no one has. Not in the same manner as Priest! For me, these are the reasons I prefer Judas Priest. I could certainly think of more but I think these are the main reasons. I did take him to a music store before Christmas and he was kind of mesmerized by all the stuff in there. He did get a kick out of trying out the drum kits, but they were adult size. It's good that you got your son a real kit, because I think people waste their money on those ones from the toy store. They're not nearly sturdy enough for a kid to pound on. The only drumming we've done here is on Guitar Hero World Tour. It gives him a bit of an idea of what it's all about. I'd like the boys to learn real instruments though. Thanks a lot for the advice. I think I'll sign him up for some lessons and rent a kit to see how it goes. HAVE A GREAT DAY METALHEADS! She's going to the AC/DC concert with us in two weeks, hopefully by then she will be feeling a bit better about things, and may even have a new car. The one she wrote off she'd had for about 10 years, so she had plenty of use out of it. She's just needing to replace it sooner than planned now! Hi Guardian Angel.. They are pretty much full time now. Last year they were at a playschool and it was 5 days a week but they went 8am to 12:30 pm. Now the go from 8am to 3pm.
As much as I sorely need the extra time in my day, I am missing them something fierce! And I'm soo tired this week! I think I'm having a harder time to adjust than they are (don't get me wrong this is a fantastic thing) lol. I'm just really lost without them around. But I'll get over it lol. Zakk also started swimming lessons yesterday. He's been pestering me for a year now and that boy had a smile on his face from the moment he stepped into the pool until he had to get out.. and then the tears started lol.
It's so cute seeing all the little kids in their swimming caps and gears all swimming in a structured class lol.
Becks, how is your sister in law after her wreck? I can totally identify with what she may be feeling now. I had a pretty bad crash when I was 22. The car was a total write off and it took me a few years to get the courage up to drive again. Once I got back behind the wheel, I was pretty nervous for a while but in time, it did go. I'm much more careful now and much calmer. Give her time, don't pressure her to talk about it but be there for her when she needs to talk about it.

They're just growing up way too fast for my liking. They started their first day at their new schoo. This is more of a preprimary than a play school so now the structure really begins. The teachers are very big on teaching them independance etc so they ask that we just drop them at the door, kiss them goodbye and then leave. No walking in with them, carrying their backpacks for them or even carrying the kid into school.. which is pretty much what I did at their old school lol. So this morning, we get to school, they grab their backpacks, barely notice I'm there waiting for my kiss and are clampering into the school all full of wonder and excitement.. Had to steal a kiss on their cheeks as they rushed past me lol.
Omg! I've turned into one of those mothers who cope less with new school changes than the children do lol.

Hi Joe, I hope you get some rest this week. Watching them in swim lessons is fun. It's neat to see how they improve from week to week. Wait till they start taking music lessons or playing team sports like soccer when they run in packs after the ball. It's hilarious! Just trying to figure out the music thing for 8 year old. I think guitar or piano would be a better 1st choice, but he wants to play drums. Any suggestions out there for what would be a good 1st instrument? I'm so glad you met a South African on your cruise Guido! And welcome back. I started replying yesterday but poof! My keyboard had other plans lol. So I'm on my trusty old laptop now. Well, I like to think that most South Africans are pretty friendly people and I bet if you'd ask she would have said she was a metal head! lol (I can't be the only one right? lol)
Well good morning peeps! Man is it cold here. LOL!
Yeah, I just got back, Vail. Overall, a nice little trip. República Dominicana, St. Thomas, British Virgin Isles (BVI) and the Bahamas. I got limited news on the boat but saw that the majority of the country is gripped in a cold spell. I'll spare the membership from pics of me peeling from too much sun. JP cross pics to come, though, in the pics of you thread.
I love cruises because you meet people from all over the world. My favorite? A woman from South Africa. Made me think of you, JoeD, every time she spoke as I have had limited contact with the accent prior to meeting her. Too cool. Never got a chance to ask about her tastes in music, but still...
Ok, a few pics to come once I unpack a bit. Until then, a big "happy birthday" to those friends that I missed. Know that I was thinking of you! HAAAAA!

Sad to see the damage in Hatie. Reminds me so much of the quake that rocked Mexico City years ago. The death rate will be very high unfortunately. [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by Becks from Wednesday, January 13, 2010 7:49:55 PM)

I am guessing that it will be bad once they access the damage. I knew they had a fault line running under the country but a 7.0 is going to be massive in certain parts of the country as they didn't build to withstand such damage. I sit on the New Madrid fault and even have earthquake insurance.

not enough power in the battery to start the car or the battery goes dead just hook this thing right up to the battery terminals .its been used quite a bit and has never failed.not to expensive this one was on sale.might want to keep it in mind.

I'm glad you came out of that crash ok Spa. Yeah we spoke to Craigs mum this morning, apparently she's feeling very sorry for herself, but she will get past that in time. Her main concern at the moment is lack of funds to buy a new car. [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by spapad from Monday, January 11, 2010 9:02:23 PM)

Are your kids full time? That was my big eye opener. All this "free time"! I think it's great that your kids ran in without a second thought. It's Monday morning, my kids are back at school and I feel a little lonely (crazy, I know lol)

Ron, glad to hear that other than the hospital acquired pneumonia you Dad is doing well. Hospitials are truely the worst places to be sick! Can pick up staff in two days at one of them. Yuck. Much prayers to him feeling better soon.
DF, glad to see you found your way here today! Hope that means you got your PC conflicts taken care of!
We are having a heat party here today in coldasslandia! The temp topped out at 28 F!!! Almost enough to melt something, but not quite! [Show/Hide Quoted Message](Quoting Message by hellrider 31038 from Saturday, January 09, 2010 12:26:10 PM)

Thought I'd take a moment to catch up on some back-reading of the goings ons here...looks like things have been a little quiet around here.
Got the first week back to work under my belt and I couldn't be happier!! There's something about getting back into the swing of things that brings a sense of security back to things. A little something I hadn't shared with my friends here but I feel more comfortable doing so now is that on New Years Eve my Dad had surgery to remove one of his kidney's due to cancer. It's been a battle for him and the family as this is just the latest in a series of "removals" he's had to go through because of the big "C"...but he is recovering fine, albeit slowly. Unfortunately he picked up pneumonia while there and it's slowing things down a bit...reminds me of why I hate hospitals...go to one and your almost guaranteed to catch something!!
Anyway, we got about a foot of snow over last day and a half and now are expecting frigid temps...no snowman or angels for me yet!!!
Hope everyone's doing fine and am looking forward to a great year and some wonderful changes in the upcoming months!!!! Take care all!! Edited at: Saturday, January 09, 2010 5:20:55 AM

Howdy all. I have been unable to access the Board for a period and I am still dealing with some strange goings on here on my laptop so I will likely not hang around today BUT...
Wanted to say "Hello" to you and see what is happening. Ron, VERY sorry to hear it, my friend. Please know I am rooting for him. Hang tough, man. I do know how it is. Justin, always great to see you back on the Board. Wish you would not be such a stranger!
Well, I am off to see what I can do about this diabolic device.

For starters, to any/all who know me here, Happy New Year/Decade to all of you!!! And yes...this greeting goes to all of those here that I don't know of course (didn't wanna seem selective...though, my history here has proven that it doesn't necessarily HURT to be as such). I hope this past holiday season was a pleasant one for all of you, whether you observe it or not. God knows the start to winter has been quite kickin' to say the least...areas of the world not ordinarily renowned for seeing such bitter cold/snow are probably reeling right now, and for those of you who like orange juice; given the shots I'd seen of various orange groves in Lakeland FL. recently, ya might wanna downgrade to quart containers....this bitter snap is gonna certainly affect the crop output.
Man...I can't feckin' WAIT for January 18th....this is when I start a new run package at work that'll break the monotony of what I've been doing for the past 5.5 months. This kid doesn't tolerate routine very well (never did)...and what I do is just that....routine as a mutherfucker. I'll be doing a slightly more varied package of bus routes, most of which have been recently refined and streamlined (which is meant to facilitate things considerably). ...at least it's quiet...the college kids are still home/abroad for the holidays for the most part...when they all come back is when my schedule changes and I get to see some different necks of the 'woods' for a little while....then, long about March or so, I'll be bitching about how burned out I am on it...LMAO!!!!
...vicious cycles boys 'n girls....watch out for 'em.....meanwhile...take care of yourselves....salud....

The last few days/weeks leading up to a big gig are always the most exciting, I hope the anticipation never exceeds the result- though it's AC/DC so I bet you'll have a great time Becks.
Our cat is quite vocally disgusted about the weather- I can't blame her, especially after a weather station 10 minutes down the road apparently recorded -18C (?!) last night making us slightly colder than Moscow. Currently I am watching the frost form on the inside of the window pane. Hope others out there are enjoying better weather!

I'm glad it's a new week, everything is getting back to normal after the holiday season. I hope everyone has had a great start to their week!

Happy metal new year to you all! It's nice to see people are sounding generally happy. That's cool! As for those complaining about the weather, I would really like to feel bad for you, but here at home in the Great White North, it has warmed up to 3.2'F. Warmed up. That's right. It was frightfully frigid between Christmas and New Year, around the -18'F range, without the windchill. BRRRRRRRRR!!! I feel cold just talking about it, and I'm sitting here in long underwear. And I doubt I would survive without my block heater and interior car warmer. It cuts the chill in the van a bit, and keeps my Priest CDs working.
[Deep Freeze] Monday, January 04, 2010 7:50:29 AM
Good Morning, all! So, it would appear that we all made it through yet another year! Great to see you all here on the "other side". So, once again we find ourselves attempting to "get back in the swing", as it were. I read Ron's comments with great amusement. Ron, my friend, I do "get" what you are saying. I recall with fondness those days! I know it would seem odd but I do remember returning to the "grind" and getting back to work. How I miss it.
I have a good feeling about this year. I cannot say why exactly. Just a feeling. It's going to be hard to top the amazing year I had in '09 but I suppose we'll see. More good times and great music ahead! Let's get this party started.

the headlight thing sounds bogus to me. something to gently warm the battery would help but.... unless you buy an electric wrap for it and remember/find locations to plug it in.... dunno. my last car I bought used, replaced the battery after 4 years. maybe I was just lucky. 11 miles should be enough to recharge it fully, I would think. Is it true if you turn your headlights on for 30 seconds before cold cranking a car it will activate the battery and give you a better start on extremely cold days? I'm really shocked by this battery as most cars I've owned I've had to replace the battery in 2 1/2 o to 3 years. Go Honda!!! lol

Hiya, PK!! Tonight it'll be all about eating buñuelos (yummy!), watching the countdown on TV with my mom and lighting up a bunch of candles.
It's been a good but challenging year and an equally challenging decade. The Priest is back and here's hoping they'll greet the new decade with a butt-kicking new album and a great concert DVD. It can only get better from here, right, ladies and gents? Happy New Years Eve (and Happy New Year to those who already saw it arrive).

Now then. What is everyone doing for New Years? I am probably just going to be hanging out with a few friends playing video games till the countdown, then get back to playing and celebrating the New Year.
