The woman is a champ! To fight stage 4 cancer for the length of time she has. She is testament to not give up, until you, yourself are ready to lay down.
Very inspirational person.

If only we could as stay "That way" until death. I don't disagree with you. I will not watch the whole thing, but I do feel for what she is enduring now. If nothing else, I will watch some of it because she's trying to convey a message, that she desparately wants out there before it's too late, and two, out of respect for that long ago "That way" girl who held this country's male population in the palm of her tiny hand.

Honestly, I get that. I really do! I have no belief that Fawcett OR O'Neal are "selfish". My problem is that the whole bloody thing is just so morbid and depressing! If it is a matter of trying to get people to be proactive, do a PSA spot or something!! To run an hour long show on network TV and show someone being eating alive by cancer is just TOO much for me. WAY too depressing. I mean, I have enough reasons to get bummed out in my life as it is! I sure as hell do not want to watch someone suffering and see the family dealing with it on my TV!!!!!!

I guess there are many points of view on the matter. I know without a doubt that I will not be watching it. I am certain there are many that will.  I always liked Farrah Fawcett. I was a teen when she was so popular and I had the famous poster on my wall. Perhaps I would just prefer to remember her that way...?
[Show/Hide Quoted Message] (Quoting Message by spapad from Thursday, May 14, 2009 7:32:47 PM)
[spapad] Thursday, May 14, 2009 7:32:47 PM
It's an awful thing DF, but I think Farrah's reason's for wanting to share this part of her life are not selfish. I do believe she has good intentions, to maybe help others be more aware and more proactive in seeking treatments and not always feel satisfied, when a Dr. says all will be well now. She was shell shocked by this and it sends a strong message that if this happens to you, don't let anyone tell you no, this cant be done. Fight. Even when all seems well, don't let your guard down if you have ever had cancer. My father had cancer years ago and won the battle, but to this day he and his Dr. are very proactive and always go one step further if he gets ill with any digestive issues to ensure there is no return of that cancer. His own sister was misdiagnosed, and died from the same cancer about 4 years ago. So, it pays to be aggresive for your own cause.

Funny you would mention this, guido. The Princess and I were chatting about it last night and are of very differing opinions on it.

She wants to watch it. I do not. I find the whole thing an incredibly morbid and depressing idea! I mean, I am SO sorry that this beautiful lady has been stricken with such an insidious, horrible disease but, quite frankly, I do NOT see any television entertainment value in watching yet another family suffer the unspeakable anguish of a slow, cancer-related death. None at all.

I find despair and sadness in my life rather easily. ..if I choose to look. The very last thing I want to do is sit in my chair and see another human being slowly die while their family members watch.

Sorry. Not without more info. Could be anything from the opera, Don Giovanni, to Don Juan de Marco - Bryan Adams.

One of my favs. Tirso de Molina writes "El burlador de Sevilla" that is later taken up a generation later and fleshed out into "Don Juan Tenorio" by José Zorrilla - the one most think of when Don Juan is mentioned. Been redone COUNTLESS times in many languages.

A little help narrowing it down and I probably do know it. Bit of a fan, if you didn't notice.

I have the same opinion as you do as for what passes as talent in today's Hollywood!!  I really don't care for Tom Cruise at all.  TCM, FMC and AMC are really good channels for catching a classic on.  Even the IFC will air a lot of foreign classics as well (with heavy doses of classic Kung-Fu movies).

What's also amazing to me is to watch a current release and later find out it is a remake of an earlier movie.  Sometimes they are so different from each other.  The early Horror movies would frighten you with just the camera angle and lighting, now it's all shock value.

The sad thing is, no one wants to watch a B/W movie.  I never could get the kids to watch one, or a sub-titled movie either for that matter.  I think the only one the kids ever watched was the Jimmy Stewart Christmas movie (can't think of the name right now).

It's a whole different world these days!!

Exactly. I was not a Bernie Mac fan and I do not think I would have known Ledger if he had come up and shook my hand but, you are right, it was a tough year. Newman, Korman..great names. Classic characters. It is so difficult for me to watch these Hollywood shows now because I just do not have much interest in what passes for "talent" in Hollywood now. Tom Cruise is OK, but he is no Heston.  DiCaprio, Hugh Grant, Brad Pitt...they do absolutely nothing for me. Nothing. And then there are the people that simply do not belong on a screen or in front of a microphone for ANY reason.. but I digress.

I feel so old when I see old footage of Oscar presentations from the forties, fifties and sixties. I see actors that were really BIG time. Icons that we will never see again. I know that change is inevitable and no one lives forever, but I can't help but feel a tremendous loss when I watch this stuff. When I recall those days in the theater, watching Heston deliver a line that may have seemed so innocuous but had impact that has resonated through the years. To watch Jimmy Stewart or Spencer Tracy do things that NO ONE today can do. Subtle things that mean so much.

The Princess is a big fan of current Hollywood. Reads all the gossip magazines. Watches the shows. I see these people and I wonder, are they going to impact today's generation the way I was impacted by the "old guard"? Are they better than I give them credit for being?  Is it just that I am old and set in my ways and I cannot see their greatness? I suppose that is possible but I am grateful for TCM Channel anyway.

DF, I hear what you are saying. 2008 took some good people. To name a few, Paul Newman, Harvey Korman, Isaac Hayes, Bo Diddley, Tim Russert, Heath Ledger, Bernie Mac. I know Heath and Bernie were not from the old school  Hollywood but still. If you see the entire list of famous people that died in 08 it's kind of freaky.

KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNN!!!!!!!!!!
Oh my friends, it is so difficult for me to lose celebrities of Montalban's caliber. In the last couple years, the face of "entertainment" as I remember it from my youth has changed so drastically. Heston, Scheider, Carlin. The list is far too long for me to even remember them all at this moment.

The Princess and I were watching an awards presentation show a couple days ago and it occurred to me that the audience had changed so much! I hardly recognized any of the "stars"!!! There was a time when a room like that was filled with faces I would know in an instant; Peck, Edward G, Grant, Garbo, Bogart. I could name them all and the seemed "larger than life". True celebrities. True "movie stars".

I suppose it is another sign of aging when one's heroes die and the famous faces change. I cannot name a fifth of the so-called "movie stars" of today. It makes me sad to think I have gotten so old that I have out lived a portion of my youth I will never be able to enjoy again. I guess I can watch old movies ( which I do) and remember these incredibly talented people but watching the Oscars and so on just is not the same anymore. Not for me.

Poor Hall & Oates! I have to say I have never seen them live.  Paired up with Joan Jett?  That is a bit different.  Oh well, must have been fun to witness.

There was a show in Chaple Hill, NC at UNC called Chapel Thrill.  It was an outdoor concert at the football stadium.  I went in 81 or 82, something like that.  The bands were Donny Iris of "Ah Leah" fame, Joan Jett and Hall & Oates.   I have NEVER seen a band so TORTURED as H&O.  It was an outdoor show with the stage about100 feet from the crowd on the football field.  Iris and Jett were great and the sold out crowd was digging it.  Hall and oats came on the the crowd turned ugly.  There was beer bottles flying on stage, booing, heckling, and poor GE Smith ( of SNL band fame ) made the mistake of coming off stage and running around between the stage and crowd.  As sweaty as he was from a humid NC summers day, he was totally soaked by all kind of liquid flying in his direction!!  Good times......

Guilty Pleasure. I loved Hall and Oates.  I did actually prefer John Oates voice. They had a lof of interesting lyrics.  The video sucks!!   They were kinda bluesy, I think that is why I liked them.
